Mr. Robinson, you should be VERY proud of your nephew, a young Captain with outstanding ability to explain how a complex fire truck operates. Best wishes!
@@johnalombardi2951 I too am a retired fireman and my nephew is also second generation firefighter his dad is the most decorated firefighter in Columbus
Well, Mr. Robinson, you have an additional cause for pride, as Captain Towns' Dad holds the record as most decorated firefighter in Columbus. Firefighters, like police officers , and military members, run in families. May God Bless you all, Sir!
Thanks Captain! This truck may be my new favorite. Great explanation of tandem axles. Lots of thought went into this truck. Great idea to back feed with portable generator. Really like how tiller driver sets the lights then has everything at his fingertips to go to work. So many more good ideas on this truck.
Columbus has a great fire department with great equipment. Obviously, this truck is not yet in service, but will be a great addition for the firefighters at Station 1.
Not a fire fighter i appreciate good equipment and professionalism. Good job explaining everything. Trucks look great when new 20 years later they served their use.
Outstanding job by the captain. The truck is absolutely beautiful. Go Columbus!!! I love this because my brother is a retired fire captain from Youngstown.
Excellent introduction, Captain Towns - thanks! It would be interesting to know if the single pane windshield was the primary reason for an Enforcer rather than the Arrow XT. Looking forward to seeing this apparatus downtown someday soon. Great choice, Columbus Fire.
1:10 one piece windshield ... can't believe that it's so "new" that it's worth mentioning in the US; Seriously, why are the splitted windshields still SO extremly popular on American fire trucks?
I had to drive a 1975 FWD truck pulling a 1947 American La France Ladder that was sorta broken on one beam(side of the ladder) That was first line equipment.
Well its been 20 years since station 1 has seen a new ladder, I thought CFD was going to order a Sutphen TDA for ladder 1 since all other apparatus's are Sutphen besides the Pierce TDA's that replaced the American la France TDA's.
DeKalb County (GA) Fire Rescue gets the first Sutphen TDA. Sutphen is really late to the game in the TDA market. I wonder if CFD is just waiting to see how others like it before buying one. Pierce makes a nice TDA though, as seen here
@@KnightRider1983 from the first three too the last one ordered CFD has made several changes over the 10 years too how they order their TDA's. A lot of guys I know in the department like the Sutphen's over the pierce but that not really saying much since the Sutphen's are mid mount platforms and the pierce is a TDA.
@@KnightRider1983 Late getting BACK to the TDA market. Sutphen offered them for several decades but quit for some reason in the '90s. The newest one I can think of is a 1996 operated by Mamaroneck, NY. ua-cam.com/video/WmXIIkD8KVI/v-deo.html
That is a gorgeous rig. Use it well. One thing I'm curious about, though, is why the stick is only 107'? I've seen a lot of 125' TDAs lately ... thanks
@@scootertrash911 lol yeah I know that. I always think it’s funny when departments say if we need extra seats for guys that really only works for some vol. fire departments. I’m like don’t you guys always try to save money by eliminating unnecessary man power.
@@mattlenardson6567 If they carry only 3 people anyway, why have a tiller at all? Just build an aerial on Freightliner Econic chassis (low cab, can fit up to 4 people in one row) and call it a day. For some extra narrow streets, there are versions with additional steerable rear axle.
Pierce's TDAs are field-proven and a known quantity. Sutphen is just getting into the TDA market, so I wouldn't want to be the first department to buy their beta version TDA.
David, how are all of those Horton manufactured ambulances that CFD owns working out for them? You know the ones with the 2 year backlog on replacement parts....the ones that the Division of Fire is forced to run every spare ambulance as a front line rig because they can't keep the new ones running. Just because something is made in Ohio doesn't make it the best product for the job.

Tandem Axle FTW

Great walk around explanation Capt. Towns, It will be a great addition to the fleet of ladder companies.
What a beautiful truck and great video
I like his detailed explanation.

I wish there is a tiller truck in Chillicothe
That’s a nice one
I just think the tandem looks better...and it is a nice truck.
Very nice, I like the tandem axle's, It should drive better.
beautiful machine....
TDA's are the one man band of fire trucks
Very nice, we are looking at tillers, what does it run without equipment, 1.5 to 1.8 mill ?

Why didn't they go with a light tower on the cab like all the other ladder companies?
