I grow many different sages. I love the smell of sage. I have purple and variegated sage. I have a beautiful mexican sage and ornamental ones too. but my favourite is the large leafed Sacred Sage. I recently bought Salvia Alpiana seeds and it is definitely slightly different and delightful smell. I love the way the scent stays with me and i smudge with it too. Love from Ireland ☘
I took cuttings of sage and had them sit in water to help roots grow before potting them. 2 of 3 we’re doing well & now I just have 1 left that is thriving. I also planted 2 mature plants. Both were doing great & 1 I’m not sure if it will make it. Plants do go into shock so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. The one planted sage bush that continues to do well has even flowered. So that was a pleasant & most welcomed surprise. It is nice to see the bees stop & say hello to the plant from time to time 🙂
I have some growing in my garden , this time of year it's fragrant & beautiful . With the next New Moon I'll sew some more seeds in an area that I'm preparing . Great video .
There are over 400 varieties of sage. They are not just desert plants. Go to Wyoming or South Dakota, sage grows like crazy!. Both of those states have harsh winters. I love what you are doing with this channel. And the Grandmothers will tell you about how sage can be used for many things besides smudge and cooking. Keep up the good work.
I'm so glad that you have this channel! I believe that I desend from the Ojibwe tribes, and I was never taught anything about my Indigenous roots but I habe always wanted to learn more
I love having my own garden! I am in an apartment right now so I cannot have a garden atm - BUT did not know I could grow sage inside! Maybe I will grow my own sage now!!
I’m looking for to having a better relationship with the sacred medicine. I feel like I will have a deeper connection growing it masi for the great video!
Hi Mallory. yes I have grown sage many years ago when I lived in the country but, used it for cooking. Never thought of using it for smudging back then, but, I do now. It grew well. I think I will try growing it this year. Thanks😊
I bought seeds from a native place, it's been a while and for some reason haven't tried them, will do this week and hope for the best... I really want to grow my own sage ❤️🙏
There is one thing that I've learned over the years, and many thousands of miles... Smudge Ceremonies should be kept very simple. And can be done anywhere by anyone. Even non-natives.
Thanks.i would recommend not drying in the sun-the uv in sunlight will degrade the plant, and also you may lose a lot of the oils/volatile compounds.better in a dry, shady place or even only indoors, if it gets moist at night(or move indoors at night from shady, dry outdoors). of course, this may also depend on your environment, how hot and dry it is where you live.if you are in a very moist or northern environment, drying in the sun may be ok....best wishes, and thanks again.
Where can I buy original White Sage Seeds to grow as i live in Asia and we have local breed of sage.. I am looking for genuine White Sage Seeds to grow for smuding.. Please Help guid me where i can buy genuine white sage seeds🙏
I’m here bc I’d like to grow my own instead of purchasing it, as not to contributing to its large commercial harvesting that’s endangering it, money can limit which sage you buy so why not try growing my own - thank you for this video - thank you for all you teach and share 🙏🏼 Also do you all sell seeds, cuttings, whole plants? I mention whole plants bc I’m not much of a gardener and I feel like whole plants might aid in a greater success rate with growing and harvesting at home 🤷🏻♀️
I like the topic any suggestions for Aloe, or Ginseng? Sage grows well in Northern cooler states I use my porch or greenhouse before its too hot or cold. Thank you smudge me
Great suggestion David we will keep that in mind! :) here is a video on the significance of sweet grass for now :) ua-cam.com/video/w4PSW-Jbznc/v-deo.html
I grew it fine from seed but after I overwintered in straw it didn’t flourish the 2nd year when I needed to collect seeds. I’ve had people say it can survive and flourish after a freeze but that’s not true. Ok so grow it inside in a container. Right? That won’t allow it to go dormant in winter - does it need that dormancy? That rest? To be strong enough for the 2nd year , to be able to produce flowers and good seed?if not inside is my best option I guess. I’m in Mississippi.
I know sage does not like too much water. Perhaps it sits in too much moisture over winter there? Have you tried a raised bed? Lavender is similar and I grow mine in raised beds and pots. I cover them over winter so they don’t stay wet.
I am sorry to break it to you but all your advice is good for any sage but not the white one's. I produced with a professional and there's no way to do with cuttings, germination rate is less than 10% (in the best condition). That's the true about white sage (salvia Apiana)
good point, most of the comments come from people who are confusing sagebrush (Artemisia) with true sage (Salvia). Salvia apiana is not northern hardy, does not propagate from cuttings, etc. Check Strictly Medicinal Seeds for reliable information.
Have you tried to grow sage before?
I haven't grown but saw the bushels in Montana. I have followed our native traditions in America for decades.
we just bought seeds on clearance that aren't expired! we cant wait to have multiple sage bushes around our home!
Have you? Because for a video titled "Growing", we never saw you grow, harvest, nor dry the sage yourself... Just saying.
Is rooting sage cuttings as easy as rooting sweet basil cuttings??
I'm growing sage in a container, outdoors. I put it in the sunniest spot I could find, and I don't have many, but it's growing. Sage loves sunlight!
Great tip Vicki! Thank you for sharing!!

I have not grown sage before but I want to try it! I love the idea of helping sage become less endangered by producing my own in my own home :)

A Southern window is great for winter. Different times of the year for other plants or weeds.
That's great news Caitlin!

I grow my own Prairie Sage. This is the first year that we have harvested and it's a pretty hard plant to dry.
Where can I purchase white sage seeds ?
That was good🙌🏼😍 Blessings 🙏🏼😍

You're welcome, Theresa! 🧡
Hi, would this apply to Northern Plains Sage? I'm interested in planting that type of sage. Just not finding much about it.
where can i buy it

Aloe loves dry soil! try cactus soil mix:) Ginseng however, loves moist conditions and thrives in the shade!!
@@MalloryRoseCo Thank you

I'd love to grow my own sage! 🌿
Let us know how it goes J S !
I have tried like tree time to plant sage but no success
It would also be nice to show how to grow Sweet Grass.
Great suggestion David we will keep that in mind! :) here is a video on the significance of sweet grass for now :) ua-cam.com/video/w4PSW-Jbznc/v-deo.html

Can you please share with us an Indigenous seed seller.
Any local community near you would! As well we do sell some on our site :) tribaltradeco.com/collections/medicinal
@@MalloryRoseCo thank you I am definitely going to purchase some. 🪶
Something I wonder in recent years. Is burning sage/smudging a closed practice or something non-indigenis people are allowed to do with respect?
Thanks for your question!! Smudging is for all humankind!!
I want to grow sage here in the Philippines
That's awesome! You can order seeds or live plants and give it a shot! Let us know how it turns out :)
@@MalloryRoseCo but i dont know where to buy 😭
i tried to grow seeds from seeds. i am a failure.
The more I learn about ancient medicine and religious ceremony, it seems more aimed at natural and nature's restoration. Wtf happened?!?
