Only need 25 dives, but navy seals and commercial divers are working in the tank so chances are slim to non that a diver with 25 dives will get into the pool.
I've always wondered; obviously the divers would have to preform depth stops as they go due to the excessive time and depth they spend in the pool, but are the astronauts constrained by this as well? Or do the suits allow them to resist the water pressure enough that the amount of dissolved nitrogen in their blood doesn't significantly change?
The suits themselves are pressurized, so the astronauts are technically “deeper” than the divers. However we breathe a blend of nitrox with much higher oxygen content, which allows for longer dive times without the use of decompression stops.
Thats so interesting! And solves a question I've had for 2 years lol. Thanks for the reply@@emilycox5627 and it was really cool getting a look into what you do!
Amazing work. Fantastic facility. Keep up the good work!
Currently a Navy diver and would like to do this when I get out. Whats the best way to apply?
