I found out about two weeks before Christmas time then I had mild cataracts. I go and get my eyes checked every year since I was 18 years old. I'm now 59 years old and very upset when my doctor told me the news that I had mild cataracts in both eyes. I asked him what I can do to slow it down, he said wear sunglasses outside, I ended up getting prescription and have been wearing them outside whenever I need to when it's sunny. I also have the blue blockers in my regular prescription and I also adjusted the screens at work on my computer at work, since I'm on the computers all day. My eye doctor also told me to take vitamins and eat better. So I changed up my whole diet and I quit drinking Pepsi and cokes and started to drink a lot more water. I quit eating potato chips and cut down on the carbohydrates too. I've been eating more vegetables like broccoli and carrots, eggs for lutein and Zeaxanthin. I have been taking vitamins too.. Is there anything else that I can do to slow down these mild cataracts in both eyes? I've been very depressed since I found out two weeks before Christmas 😢. Any advice would be very appreciated.
It is frustrating to know that cataracts are starting, but keep this in mind that we all get cataracts. Anyone over the age of 50, we'll be able to see cataracts. It's always the first time that we hear about it that we will either just except it and move on or sometimes we will see the patients get upset at their eye doctor. But it sounds like you are doing great in all that you have changed in your lifestyle, so keep it up, and let cataracts be the least of your worries. I know... Easier said, then done.
My name is deirdre Mac Mahon from Dublin Ireland i went for an eye test recently in a place called medical optics in bray in co wicklow Ireland and i saw a doctor mahamod there and he told me that i have age related degeneration in my right eye a cataract in my right eye and I'm waiting to go into the eye and ear hospital here in Dublin Ireland for surgery on my eye I'm 56 years old
I'm 74 and was just told I have "decent" cataracts. He says nothing needs to be done right now even tho I have some very slight blurriness. My worry is I only have one good eye. If the surgery goes bad, I'll be blind. Can you give some risk stats?
I understand you concern, and we should all be cautious about any type of surgery. Fortunately, cataract surgery has one of the lowest risk of any type of surgery. Furthermore, the surgeon will know your case and will do everything in their power to keep your good eye safe during this process. I hope this helps, Don!

Talk to your local eye doctor and see if they have any suggestions after looking at your eyes. Unfortunately, I can't diagnose over UA-cam!
