Cracking bit of work Izzy and quality advice to the apprentice a always got told you had to learn to walk before you can run always small steps in your bricklaying journey ! But very valuable steps great video Izzy keep it up !
Great job, they used to have us turning the compo on the spots all day😂 then making the tea!! Great to have someone with you as I know what mixing and bumping out then laying is like🤨 Its made a difference have a good camera guy too, he’ll learn as he films you too👍
Haha spot on mate, I was the same buddy! Ah it's made my life so much easier 😂 and that's like the main benefit...got a camera man to get cool angles 😂😂💪
Yep nice to see he can see the light at the end of the tunnel keep teaching him bits to keep him interested better to have a labourer with some knowledge and brains mate 👍
Totally agree , I laboured , carried the hod then pointed up , learned how to spread compo laid a few blocks and then started on brickwork , kids that come from collage and straight on the trowel need to learn all aspects of the job not just laying bricks , and lay them well learn to lay everyone perfect then you know what you can and can’t get away with
100% mate! I was exactly the same. On the shovel for 2 years..then the pointing and so on so on. Can't just pick up a trowel and go for it. I've was told the best labours will eventually make the best bricklayes 👌👍 thanks for your comment buddy!
Loved that video and im really happy you got some help. Yes i agree mate get em bedding out first then perping then lay to a line and jointing up .only when they can mix stack out first . Top man a very good young bricklaying good for you isaac mate 👍🧱💯
Thank you very much Justin. *Inside peek* I'm trying to edit the videos less and have them a bit more real..also helps now I have a camera man😂😉 Yes, I think that's the best order to learn too mate! thanks again mate! All the best!☺️☺️ Hope the family is well
Brilliant work buddy! I fully agree with everything you said, practice makes perfect no matter what! Anyways keep up the great work always mate, looking forward to the next one! 👍😁👌👷♂️🧱
You asked the question, In some ways I think everyone should learn ( with a patient teacher) how to " master / correctly " laying a motor bed, purping bricks / blocks , laying level & plum first correctly !! Master the correct method first regardless of speed ( hows the lad going to be fast if he's new it laying) Like anything else in life practice mixed with a positive response & mentality is an unbeatable combination, speed will inevitably come. ( Trust me I've got life experience , & completed a bricklaying course I know it's not an easy skill to master )
I done a 5 year apprenticeship and never touched a hod I was jointing up for the trowels then laying done college a day a week na never touched the hod
Hi Izzy, Your videos are very professional, and may I say, that the reason your apprentice is very good is because the way you are with him, You make him very welcome, you make sure he knows you are approachable, as with anyone learning the job the apprenticces are only as good as the person educating them, I am a lecturer in healthcare and can tell you Izzy you are a first class top builder/teacher, you explain to him what you are doing, the reason why you are doing it, and giving him very positive feedback with mountains of support and education, Top builder Izzy 👍
Wow thank you for that John I really appreciate it! I've never actually taught anyone before him, but I feel the way I'm going about it is the best way to help develop him as he learns ☺️ I definitely think positive enforcement makes a better learning environment than negative enforcement 👌 Thank you so much for your support mate! Will hopefully have a new video out in a couple of days!
@@IzzytheBricky Thank you for responding to my message Izzy, I watch other builders videos working with apprentices and the way they speak to them and their attitudes are disgraceful, but watching you connect with him was very refreshing, and you will not only deservedly earn his respect but he will bust a gut in return to be the best he can for you, and in turn you will reap the rewards, really enjoy watching your video's, whilst I am NHS you inspire me to go into the building trade to work for builders like yourself, Good luck
Very neat brick layer also you are a very good tutor to your apprentice and everyone watching your channel including myself .thank you for sharing your videos.
On many sites right now in London you are required to take pictures of all the ties, dpc and insulation down to the minimal gaps and measurements, for example if the insulation of firestop isnt 5mm pressed against the brickwork you have to take it down.. its going crazy. And if you do work for Crossrail or government its even crazier.. health and safety going mad The amount of money wasted and over the budget because of health and safety on governement jobs could pay this country debt in a year, but no one tells u that
Oh wow that's crazy mate! I guess I'd be alright "watch the video foreman" 😂 seems like they just wanna slow you down...houses are still standing what were built 200 years ago...and yet they have all these bs rules now..😂🤔🤔
Never seen a chase cut to maintain the cavity surely affects the integrity of existing. I don’t get the tray either always used two 100mm dpc. Tray damp on lintels to prevent ingress to openings.
Wish my gaffer talked to me as much as you do, I just get told to shut up feels as if I’m not learning anything, I’m good with a trowel just don’t have anything but being able to lay to a line
@@IzzytheBricky have you any tips or channels I can look at in my spare time to boost my skills so I feel valuable at work; setting out and reading drawings?
To be honest mate.. didn't miss a day. Always something to do on these extensions...cos I've got a few on..I can always drop onto something 👌 no blowndowns..cos I've not laid in ages😂👌
It's one step down from being a full Bricklayer. They can do some things..but you wouldn't let them loose on their own. They still need to be Improved 👌☺️ Hello from the UK buddy!😊😊
Izzy, Good to see you've got a +1. The lad sounds like a good'un. Those bricks look pretty fragile. On your corner and in the door reveal you've got chipped arris's 👀
Yea loads of chips in them mate! I've got a stack of..150 what are unusable. But with the price of them ..some have to go in😰 Cheers for your support Matt 💪👍

I agree we had a apprentice who went to college for a year and all he learned was to build walls about 4 courses high.did not know how to hold a trowel above that. You are a.good teacher take your time.
Small job like that Ya should have your new man on the inside leaf of blocks after you set it out He will learn nothing looking at you all day Mix a bit Point up Lay blocks That's how he will learn
Nice job mate. Doing a bit of tap tap though. Don’t get into the habit of thinking tap tap is a good thing, in a perfect world it should rarely be needed, and it slows you down.
Never seen anyone cut out the cavity. Not saying it wrong but to me it weakens the wall. The wall starters are ment to allow movement between the old and new works so don't tye the building together.
@@IzzytheBricky it's funny how thing change over a short distance. I've never put a dpc tray at dpc level. An open cavity let's moisture fall to below a level to cause any problems. @@markrichardson5295 I've not been in the game as long as yourself, but what if come to realize, different inspectors just like different things😂 So we use a Cavity closure what goes into the cavity at our opening. People seem to do what ever they want and get it passed.😂 As long as the inspector is happy, we're all laughing 👌
