I'm with you on Hakeem being the best big of all time. Best footwork of any center hands down.
David Robinson is my favorite center growing up, but I give much love to Hakeem for being unstoppable and the best center of the 90s. He beat Robinson, Ewing, O'Neal for his championships, gotta give credit for his dominance on defensive end the most, and embarrassing them with his trademark Dream Shake, one of the unstoppable moves of all time.

Hakeem is far and away the best center of all time. I always laugh when people say Kareem or Russell or Wilt when none of them were anywhere close to both the offensive and defensive juggernaut Hakeem was. His game would also transition seamlessly to any era unlike the others. If he played today he'd make Joel Embiid look like Elden Campbell. It's a shame he didn't walk into a championship-ready organization and stay on one for basically his whole career like a Wilt and Kareem and Russell or he could have had way more than 2 rings, well and if MJ wasn't around lol. Hakeem is hugely undervalued in the all-time greats discussion. I get Russell and Wilt were important for the NBA in their time but Hakeem would absolutely smoke either of them regardless of when they played. His talent was so refined and polished. He was basically a 7 foot MJ.

Wilt could do it at both ends of the floor. Both he and Russell almost certainly had more blocks than Olajuwon. Wilt was every bit as good and maybe even a better scorer, stronger, faster, more stamina. There are many who think Kareem is the GOAT(I do not) I am going to have to disagree with the assertion that none of them were anywhere close. Look at Kareem when he was with the Bucks, he was a monster on both ends of the floor

He played with FAR more talent and before anyone brings up Russell/Boston, his teams should've comfortably beaten them in both 68 and 69, but didn't chiefly because he underachieved

Its been so many years gone by but i still miss Hakeem play. He was my favorite player in the 90s or All Time.. I got a heart for Centers.... Not these new school Centers but the old school Centers.
My favourite Hakeem moment will always be the block on Starks. In one moment, he showed his superhuman foot quickness, blocked a guard who was literally running in the opposite direction (a GUARD) and won us our first championhip........ And because at the time my tv signal was so bad that I had to see Rudy T running with his arm raised to understand we had just forced a game 7. I will never forget that moment.

I always tell folks that Michael Jordan is a shorter version of Dream and Dream is a taller version of MJ. They had the same drive, mentality, leadership ability, fundamental base which allowed them to be as creative as possible and offensive and defensive dominance. I was a center/power forward. I wore #34 because of two players, Olajuwon and Terry Cummings.
Kareem fan here, after Russell and Wilt, then Shaq and Ewing. But Hakeem was in a league of his own. Best of my best.

I remember watching these games on NBA On NBC sunday triple-headers. Amazing games, entire lazy sunday of watching the very best basketball can offer, I can still hear Marv Alberts voice "good afternoon, and welcome to the NBA on NBC. Today we have....". The first time the Raptors made it to that line up they played the Knicks, Sprewell and Houston against Carter. Great times, too bad todays NBA sucks so bad they can't compile 3 quality games in one week. Bunch of spoiled, soft brats running their mouths to the media thinking they're Larry Bird. Bird never talked to the media, he went to your lockerroom or on the court and told you what he was gonna do to you and he would do it. Now its punks belittling their opponent and getting their asses handed to them, not just star players doing, even scrubs run their mouth.
If both Hakeem and Jordan had equal teammates, Hakeem would never lose against Mike.
I remember listening to David Robinson's MVP acceptance speech and when it was over I was like "Did he just omit Dream from his list of great big men. Surely I must've missed it." But I didn't miss it. On the world stage, David dissed arguably the greatest all-around Big of all time. And in return, Dream proceeded to humiliate him on the court. The Admiral was reduced to an Ensign right before our eyes.

I know it's not easy, but try to find footage of Hakeem's exploits in the playoffs 1985-1993. He was just as good back then. It's just that not everyone knows, cause after making the finals in 1986, he didn't make it back till 94-95. But he was the best player I'd ever seen, and most people don't know how good he really was, unless you watched him often enough. This is because, the Rockets didn't get a lot of TV time back then. Of course, we didn't have internet; League Pass, and 24 hr cable, etc., as we do now. So, you had to want to/make an effort to see a player play (against your team; Game Of The week; in bars via satellite, or in the playoffs), etc... Those who watched Olajuwon 85-93, were already used to those exploits from his first, 2nd year that many people thought "he matured" into during the 94-95 Championship runs. No siree! It was more a coronation/about time!

You can check him out in the 1986 finals as well, though they lost to an All Time Great Boston Celtics team with the reputed Best Frontline Of All Time. You can see how he handles them.
I think in 1987 he lost to Dallas (maybe the first round) avg over 40 points, along with his crazy defense and great rebounding, etc.. He had also done similar against Seattle as well (ridiculous avg). He would just go crazy in the playoffs, when so many other "great players" game shrunk.

Hakeem was more like 6'10-6'10.5 flat with shoes. (Dont debate me on this because ive literally researched for over a week on his and different PF/C heights) That's the exact height of Giannis, and all other dominant PF, in real terms.
Hakeem was a powerful and quick power forward that could also be center because he was the best choice for his team in that regard. There needs to be an obvious difference between center and power forward, but that doesn't mean ben wallace is at heart a center by definition; He's only the center because of his team capability, same case as Haeem. Karl Malone and Shawn Kemp were every bit of Hakeem give or take an inch up or down. Neither were even bad at anchoring defense. A true powerful PF is every bit of a guy like Hakeem, Kemp, Malone, all the way down to even barkley. The major difference between a PF and C is the ability to stay in the center of your man at all times Defending them the majority of the time in the paint. A power forward can do the same, although can stretch out to guard the perimeter at a more active and able rate.
I know I'm being height bias, but it makes sense for the logic explained above.

(Swing heights: 6'6-6'8)
C: 6'9-7'2
(Tweener heights: 6'9-6'11)
This is entirely based on the typicality of how guys at those heights have displayed individual playstyle on the court based upon their willpower, conditioning, and team play.

Hakeem is the ONLY center in the top 10 in STEALS, All Time.. Lebron James is not in the top 10, for example. Hakeem is also the only big man to have ever won an NBA Championship without another All Star on his team. If there was ever a one man gang, it's Hakeem. #dreamshake

One on one, Wilt would cook Hakeem, no doubt.
But basketball, funnily enough, isn't an individual sport, and your ability to bring out the best of those other 4 players while getting numbers yourself factors heavily into what truly elevates you to that pedestal of transcendent players. This is why I take Hakeem over Wilt, because I can build a winner quicker, fit him more seamlessly and not have to worry about play-off regression the same way it affected Wilt. Basketball is so much more than just numbers: it's about making those numbers have meaning, and Hakeem has a lot of meaning in his game. My favorite player of all-time, followed by Larry Bird ... or is it Larry Bird first and then Hakeem second?
Jordan may be the GOAT, but there are just players out there you hold close to your heart.

@@FuShengAlex Wilt was the most dominant offensive force of his time. He may have been a stat-stuffer, but out of the limelight and in the park, Wilt cooked pros all the way even after retirement. Wilt's signature move was a looping floater from under the basket, which, because of the height difference and strength difference, would have been an advantage against Hakeem, who preyed on big men who'd take him face-up; Wilt did that because of the presence Russell had in the post, and had to get separation with the man to get his baskets, which he did frequently in the regular season. Like I said, however, the game of basketball is not a 1-v-1 game, and how you cash in those checks and balances is how you translate those stats into wins instead of taking too much away that your team becomes disjointed.

And Hakeem had the dream Shake which had 7 different counter moves....without studying film or Hakeem first...how do you believe Wilt would figure out which counter move Hakeem will use before it is too late.
Hakeem is considered one of greatest defenders ever...I'm sure Hakeem is smart enough to figure out Wilt before Wilt could figure out Hakeem...the reason I say this is because Wilt used power and high Athleticism to beat his opponent.
Hakeem had so many post moves that Wilt would have to think more.
Also Hakeem ranks in the top 10 ever in steals....you don't think Hakeem would figure out how to take some of those possessions away from Wilt by stealing his ball a couple of times.
@@peterguidry6084 No way in the world would Hakeem commit himself to an immediate death sentence by letting him get separation. In a street-ball duel, 1v1, Center vs Center, he'd be at the disadvantage, too, because Wilt (and surprisingly, Russell) would charge down on him from half-court if Hakeem went that way. Hakeem's best bet would be to combat his finesse instead of giving Wilt the ability to maximize his physicality ... but Wilt's physicality was overwhelming enough in the day that he dominated for the 14 years of his career against other Centers even with just the turnaround. I love Hakeem, but I don't see anyone at all being able to beat Wilt in a one-on-one match; not even Michael Jordan. I wouldn't pick Wilt over Hakeem for a team, but one-on-ones are different games. It's all on you and you don't have to care about anyone else: that's Wilt's territory, right there.

If Russell or Wilt tried to charge down Hakeem from halfcourt more than likely Hakeem would have the advantage.
Both of them footwork and handles with the ball is not as good as Hakeem's footwork or handles (dribbling).
So if they tried to charge from that far away from the basket either Hakeem would steal their ball, disrupt their dribble, or Hakeem would call charge if they tried to use Physicality and bump and barrel their body past Hakeem.
Strong physical specimens such as Wilt would be better served when the ball is passed to them when they are already in the post.
So taking the ball out during Wilt's next possession would put him at a disadvantage since you take the ball out at halfcourt in 1 v 1.
I saw some highlights of Wilt going coast to coast with the ball in his hand but he was gaining momentum since it was fullcourt...so by the time he was in his momentum, no one was going to get in front of a freight train.
But once again in a half court set, Wilt has no momentum.
If some kind of way Wilt got the rebound over Hakeem close to the basket, NOW Wilt could use his power and Athleticism to beat Hakeem.

Noone says anything about Hakeem being drafted before Jordan. Players go/went to Hakeem to learn his post moves. His chase down block on Kevin Johnson's wide open dunk shows that he wasnt just an ordinary center. Goat of all centers.

Those rocket teams were fucking really awesome man, with all those three point shooters and the dream, even peanut head Sam Cassell for God's sake they really had chemistry and knew there game and plan of attack.. I guess we'll never know if they would have won those two back-to-back championships if Michael wasn't retired..
Hakeem was on a mission and I don't think even MJ could have stopped him. The Bulls certainly didn't have a center who could keep up with him and the Rodman/Pippen forward combo as great as they were defensively would be no match for Hakeem's post moves and mid range.

I was living in Jacksonville Florida when Shaq and Penny were playing in orlando, not exactly right down the street but close enough to feel like my team.. I thought those two were insanely incomprehensively badass! Penny at 6:10 with the dishing and passing and leaping jumping abilities driving to the basket shooting the whole deal he was beyond incredible but Shaq is something that we had never seen before I got to watch all of the games on local TV and even was blessed to see if you games.. but man when I saw Orlando play the rockets I couldn't believe how Hakeem the dream would man handle and embarrass the gigantic diesel.. such a blessing to be alive during those times

That's actually not true David. You were either not watching the 1995 finals or not watching properly.

By that quote I usually can tell who's a sporadic NBA follower. Hakeem was better in that Finals against young Shaq.That much is true.
But in no shape or form did he dominate or manhandled him.
Shaq was actually better in that series in every major stat except in scoring.
And even in scoring gap was not that large.
Hakeem averaged close to 33 while Shaq had 28.
Shaq had 0,5 more blocks in that series. Had 12.5 boards and 6,3 assists compering to Hakeem's 11,5 boards and 5,5 assists.
So if that's domination and manhandelling then I'm Daffy the Duck:)

My favorite was when he blocked the Sky Hook from Kareem. Like MJ going to the rim, only a few players blocked them and he was one of them.
MJ got blocked quite a few times - before the refs made him untouchable. Kareem got blocked too, but at far less frequent rate. Height matters.
Hakeem Olajuwon is the greatest basketball player I've ever seen with my own eyes in my own time. He's the GOAT to me based on his extraordinary ability and impact on both ends of the court. Only Jordan had the impact on offense and defense that Olajuwon did. Olajuwon's defense was more impactful because he did it from the center position. He defended the entire court. For a long time, he was not only the all-time blocked shot leader, but he was also in top 10 in steals. Ask Michael Jordan about him.
Pretty sure he is still top 10 in steals. Too bad we will never know how many blocks Russell and Chamberlain had, probably both had more than Olajuwon. I saw a lot of those Clutch City playoff games in person, it was so loud, like being inside a jet engine when the plane was taking off, loud as the Sacramento Arco Arena crowd even, but that was in their old gym, where that TV church guy does his show, which was kind of smaller. Olajuwon moved like a guard, but he was 7 foot with long arms, graceful and powerful at the same time

Hakeem was more like 6'10-6'10.5 flat with shoes. (Dont debate me on this because ive literally researched for over a week on his and different PF/C heights) That's the exact height of Giannis, and all other dominant PF, in real terms.
Hakeem was a powerful and quick power forward that could also be center because he was the best choice for his team in that regard. There needs to be an obvious difference between center and power forward, but that doesn't mean ben wallace is at heart a center by definition; He's only the center because of his team capability, same case as Haeem. Karl Malone and Shawn Kemp were every bit of Hakeem give or take an inch up or down. Neither were even bad at anchoring defense. A true powerful PF is every bit of a guy like Hakeem, Kemp, Malone, all the way down to even barkley. The major difference between a PF and C is the ability to stay in the center of your man at all times Defending them the majority of the time in the paint. A power forward can do the same, although can stretch out to guard the perimeter at a more active and able rate.
I know I'm being height bias, but it makes sense for the logic explained above.
PF: 6-6-6'11
(Swing heights: 6'6-6'8)
C: 6'9-7'2
(Tweener heights: 6'9-6'11)
This is entirely based on the typicality of how guys at those heights have displayed individual playstyle on the court based upon their willpower, conditioning, and team play.

Yup. Hakeem and MJ were sure things, but back then you'd always draft a sure thing big over a sure thing guard. Hakeem is a top 10 ever guy, and carried HOU to 2 titles. Sure, he's not MJ, but Rockets fans can't feel bad over Dream... Bowie had a HUGE red flag for leg issues, which can are a big problem for dudes over 6'10". He shouldn't have gone over MJ, even without hindsight, but teams wanted size back then more than now.
