The Textron TAPV (Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle) is an armoured car currently in use by the Canadian Army. It is essentially a heavier armoured upgrade of the M1117 Armoured Security Vehicle, developed for use by the military police of the US Armed Forces. The TAPV was designed for asymmetric warfare. The new vehicle gradually replaced the RG-31 mine resistant ambush protected vehicle, which was then in service with the Canadian Armed Forces. This armored vehicle is fitted with a dual weapon remotely controlled weapon station, armed with either 40 mm automatic grenade launcher or 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, alongside with 7.62 mm machine gun. The TAPV has also mounted 25 mm cannon for arms show display, however heavy armament exceeds the brief of the TAPV. The armored personnel carrier version has a crew of 3, including commander, gunner and driver, and can carry up to 7 troops. Reconnaissance version has a crew of four, including commander, gunner, driver and operator. Occupants enter and leave the vehicle via side doors or roof hatches. The Textron TAPV is powered by a Cummins QSL turbocharged diesel engine, developing 365 hp. Engine is located at the rear. This armored vehicle uses independent suspension axle system, originally designed by Irish Timoney. Vehicle is fitted with a central tyre inflation system. The TAPV is not amphibious. Despite the basic role of armored personnel carrier or reconnaissance vehicle, the Textron TAPV can be tailored to suit many battlefield roles. Possible versions include armored ambulance, command vehicle, mortar carrier or recovery vehicle.

Textron должен заменить в вооружённых силах RG-31 Nyala с защитой от мин и засад (MRAP). В отличие от M1117, на базе которого был разработан TAPV, новые броневики имеют V-образное днище, что позволяет существенно снизить риск повреждения машин от подрыва наземных мин и фугасов. В техническом описании указывается, что TAPV способен выдерживать подрыв 10 кг взрывчатки под днищем, а кузов - попадания бронебойных пуль калибра 12,7 мм. На крыше установлен боевой модуль с дистанционным управлением. В нем можно установить 40-мм автоматический гранатомет Mk 19 или HK GMG; 12,7-мм пулемет спаренный с 7,62-мм пулеметом, 25-мм автоматическую пушку. Ходовая часть состоит из турбодизеля Cummins QSL, расположенного сзади, автоматической 6-ступенчатой КП Allison MD3560. Независимую подвеску разработала ирландская компания Timoney. Установлена центральная подкачка шин. Textron TAPV не относится к машинам-амфибий. Боевая масса автомобиля составляет 17 т, при этом двигатель Cummins QSL мощностью 365 л.с. способен разгонять его до 105 км/ч, а запас хода составляет более 600 км.
