  • Ok so long story short my conscience got the better of me. I keep asking the four man crew in the back to help me lift walls. I get as many ready before asking but I’ve been on the flip side once or twice so I get it. I’ve been seeing these mechanical lifts (wall lift.com) but before I buy I want a proof of concept, so I spent $100 and built my own this morning for those 50/50 walls. I lifted 6 walls in total that would typically take 3 or four guys and each time I was able to reduce my take down/setup time to around 5 mins…. Now if only the roof could hurry up and get here

Definitely cool to see a 1 guy framing crew framing a house alone.

Nice, dogg. You're basically head of framing R&D.

back in the day I used Proctor wall jacks...they are still up in the rafters of my shop....aluminum pole with come-along mounted. had two for long walls...frame the wall.. window in.. paper..T 1-11 nailed on...1x4 trim around the aluminum window...coat of Olympic Stain..lift her up..no scaffold at all...and this is in the Oakland Hills with 16' of underpinning in the back of the downslope....I used them with other rigging to lift beams etc...worked alone or with one helper

Like your content because you don't portray yourself as the best guy to ever do it, just somebody who's been around sharing good ideas and ways to be productive. Was wondering do you think you're better off without help or if you actually found a good consistent helper would you take em on?

Thanks for that, good help is always preferred I think but it’s finding it and holding on to it that can be challenging. Some decent guys look around and see that they’re better than guys on other crews and shop themselves around when really they could be closer than they know to the end goal of going on there own which crew bosses would much rather see. If a guy leaves me for a lateral move that’s a slap but if he/she leaves to advance themselves you should be happy for them because they’ve put in the time. I’m at peace working alone but there’s times where a good guy would slot in nicely

Will do , there’s not much too it. Can either use a boat winch or atv style electric and 12 v battery.

i built a wall jack a few years ago out of 2"x2" square metal tubing and used an 400lb rated overhead hoist I got off amazon with a 25' remote. it pulls pretty fast, but i think the hoist cost around $300 at the time. the hoist is mounted to a princess auto swinging hoist bracket in my shed now. the top part of my wall jack that catches the wall from going too far is movable and locked in place with a hitch pin. i have a hole drilled to move it for 8', 9' or 10' walls. you can do the math and have it set anywheres in between for custom height walls if needed.@@framingbeast720

Nice! Is that a commercially produced unit or a custom Framing Beast (TM)?

I watch another guy Crazy Framer and he uses these manual jacks for lifting walls by himself and I think they are even faster than this method.
