ACG mentions the high price tag at $60 but that’s only for last gen versions. Next gen versions are $70. That feels insanely pricey for this type of game. 10 hours of gameplay is nice but for mostly a interactive movie, sheesh.
Agreed. Maybe it'll hit gamepass like Medan did, but they used that as a gateway drug :p Not a single subsequent title was ever put on the service
I did find it from Smyths for XBSX for £49.99, getting it tomorrow i hope, just in case you live in UK or Ireland, if so hope it saves you a few quid.
Keep in mind a regular movie costs like 30 dollars. And it's never longer than 3 hours.
I love these types of games, but paying 70 dollars for the steam version is a no go from me. I'll wait until it's 50% off in December or something.
@@coletrainhetrick where are you buying movies that are $30 a piece? lol. I feel like the $70 is good for a household that loves these games so if you got 4-5 people who do couch co-op and pass the controller, but $70 for a single person? Ehhh…
So, yeah, I've just played it, and don't really have a desire to replay for the good endings. The story just isn't "that good" to be bothering with it. But the worse thing is this game is just insulting with how it wastes your time. Like, for crissake, just give us a frickin run button on the second playthrough and a fast forward mode for cinematics we've already seen. Immensely annoying how they didn't see these things as QOL issues. You can't even skip cutscenes directly to the path moments. It's absolutely horrendous.
Great review as always, as a fan of Until Dawn and their other titles I definitely want to give this a try, gives me some 80s horror movie vibes.
Well its supposed to
and there's an 80s fit pack if u get the deluxe
they completely ruined this game for me. i like 4 the dark pictures games because they are actually pretty challenging on normal, and there is a hard mode for further challenge.
i recently played one of the dark pictures games for the first time on normal, the button presses required you to be quick, i wasn't quick enough that time and only 2 people survived my first playthrough.
then i was excited to play the quarry, and find they completely change the timed button sequences to this pathetically easy mode that you literally can't possibly miss unless you do so on purpose. a few hours in i completely losr my desire to play anymore and will probably never go back, unless they actually put in a challenging mode for those who want it.
it's so stupid that those dark pictures games had a challenging mode for those who want it, but you could make it pathetically easy like the quarry if you wanted, but the quarry only gives you the pathetically easy option. huge step back.
The Quarry seems like an enjoyable game despite some issues. It has some replayability, which is always a good thing. Though, I wouldn't buy it for $60 or $70. I'll wait until the price drops to around $30-$40. Thanks once again Karak!
I very tempted to get it .but for $70 it's a lil too expensive for like 10 hrs of gameplay. if it was at most $50 then I would most likely pick it up.
@@ernestohernandez9370 better quality than quantity, look at ratchet and clank, less than 20 hours of gameplay yet one of the most fun gaming experiences you could have.
@@goldensapphire0 yeah but 10 hrs for a interactive movie for $ 70 on the ps5 Is way too much. rachet and clank was amazing.
@@ernestohernandez9370 yeah, I think I"ll end up buying it but its way too much, is just that there is no game Im into except the last of us remake and the callisto protocol and howgarts legacy and the other one is gotham knights but those games are a bit far and I dont want to waste my summer being bored all day and playing games I already played. Lmao.
more like 10 20$, not gonna give them any more than that, especially to the game they focus on characters but motion capture is bad...
This is the go-to channel for great reviews. No BS, just comedic detailed banter that actually means something!! Will be seeing you for the Summer Game Fest.
nobody does it like you, karak. always makes my morning to wake up to a new review of something I'm interested in. thanks man!
I’m a big fan of these games, but I do wish they had gone for the $39.99-$49.99 price tag. I’m tempted to buy it but I might just wait for the multiplayer to be added, and hope that it drops price or is used by then.
I'm in the same boat, these type of games feel they should be a bit cheaper since the experience is kind of limited.
The dark pictures anthology really hit that home for me because once you beat it once in a day or your only going through a handful of variations too get a actually different ending along with finishing any achievements/ trophies.
But in terms of content it's like watching a movie you already know where the story will end.
Supppor you can support your favorite company for their art what is a few bucks if your going to enjoy the game regardless and it doesn’t seem like a loot box fest so why not help them make more games likes this
@@JustxLiving909 This mindset is how we get dragged over the barrel by game companies though. 60 usd for 10-12 hours isn't a few bucks.
@@Yokonato in fairness though this game does have some A list actors which I cannot imagine are cheap. I bought until dawn solely for Hayden Panettiere lol.
It’ll drop in price significantly over the next few months watch and buy then.
Really appreciate your review process. Definitely my new go to channel. Thank you.
Thanks for doing this review, i had seen some preview play and was intrigued!
Played and beat this game in 8 hours. Would HIGHLY recommend picking up on sale or at a Redbox (I did that for Until Dawn and it was the perfect choice for games like these)
Hell naw this game is trash. The characters are what makes it so trash, their dumb asf.
definitely a sale since it’s 8 hours and little replay value
Are red boxes still a thing?
Where do you live? Red boxes stopped being a thing like 10 years ago
This review helped me figure out whether I really needed this game or was it better to wait. Im gonna wait but i cant thank you enough for the reviews
I love your reviews! Incredibly helpful, keep up the awesome work!
I’ve been reloading the last few hours awaiting this, glad to finally see your review. I was probably already going to buy, but this pushes me into preorder/preload. Thanks, as always, for the honest and straight forward review!
another great review i never got until dawn but this one kind of caught my eye so maybe i’ll hold off until it hits that $30 mark i will be becoming a patron very soon because i love what you do !
ACG IS THE MAN ! Best reviews, hands down !!! Keep up the great work bro!!!!
Been quite looking forward to this and your input on it. Keep up the great content and keep up the awesomeness.
I'm enjoying the hell out of this. The graphics are amazing and it's well told because I have no idea WTF is happening
I love your reviews. You never cease to amaze me with the most ridiculous, specific, and accurate metaphors to describe games.
Can’t wait to grab this on Friday. Thanks for the honest reviews
I played every game of this company but Until Dawn is still my favorite. I always replay them during Halloween and try to remember to take a different pathway. Very much looking forward to the Quarry and sounding from the excellent review I am a candidate to go on this summer camp trip.
House of ashes was better imo
@@john_constantine3718 how do you know? It doesn't come out until Dawn.... tomorrow
@@Mike_TNVol4Life im talking about until dawn
@@john_constantine3718 Ah! I gotcha now
I’m so shocked by the reception of this game. Did we play the same game? It’s so bad and not in a good way.
Always great reviews mate!
I can't wait for this, price is a bit steep but given the amount of replayability it's not so bad.
Thanks for the review.
You play as 🌈🌈 males. You really buying this?? 😂
@@tonyxu3878 I don't even know wtf you are going on about.
Yea keeping charaters alive
If you think about the budget that when into this and the famous actors price is prob reasonable
@@Tomas-gk2op that's a fair point. I'm looking forward to playing it this weekend.
Ace review as always. This one has been on my radar for a while and I think now I will pick it up.
Can't wait man. I dig your breakdowns with no bs🤙
Glad I've found your channel bro keep up your amazing content 👏
I have been watching out for this game and have been interested. Was waiting for some reviews to drop and I like your reviews as you seem pretty level headed. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for the review! Good stuff. Looking forward to playing this one at some point.
I do love your reviews, man.
Thank you for another amazing review. You're the best man.
3:08 this scene single-handedly made me buy the game
Hands down that’s the bees knees
The best game reviewer in the world strikes again! Appreciate the in-depth review my guy!
I don't get why they dumbed down the QTE's so much and took out inspection for details on objects and clues. but I like that they put more stuff around the areas that you can miss if you're not exploring.
but also, voice direction could have been better in places.
They dumbed them down because a lot of people whined about QTEs in Until Dawn. They shoulda had a slider in the options menu for QTEs, like a simple mode or complex mode. AC Valhalla did that for their QTEs and it worked out great
I love new QTEs. I prefer when characters die because of bad choices and not my non gamer wife failing guitar hero QTEs when trying to run from danger
I was following this game off and on because it looked interesting. With yours and some other reviews, I’m going to put it in my Wait for Sale category. That will give it some time for patching and drop it down from that almost premium price point. Thanks for the great review.
Can't wait to watch SGS play this. Great review as always ACG!
Another great review, loved the Dark Anthology series playing with a friend. Probably will be buying unless I get lucky lol 😋 Keep up the great work 😁
Super review! I normally am not so much into horror games, but this games seem much more like a B-tier horror movie which I adore. Probably have to wait for a sale, but you might actually have convinced me :D
Brilliant always on point, thank you.
Very keen for this one, thanks ACG!
Thanks for another great video! I'm a huge Until Dawn fan and I didn't play the dark pictures games. I've really been looking forward to this one though!
Been waiting for this review!
Yeah I'll wait for a sale on this, deffo love me that 80's horror vibe though. Now if only we could get a Sleepaway Camp game...
This review came out soon. Thanks ACG!
Great review and breakdown 👍🏾, looking forward to purchasing this.
Love your reviews always a great job. I really enjoyed until dawn so I might have to grab this one. Thanks!
Thanks for the detailed review - was of two minds about this one, but definitely want to play it now.
Finally gonna check out this style of game for the first time! Thanks for the awesome review
Man, I love your reviews
Great review... Can't wait till Friday!!
I like that the tutorials are in cartoon form. That's a cool and creative way to do it.
The "coleslaw" whispering broke me 😆
yet another great review, thanks!
Thanks for recommending White Bat Audio, I always looking out for music to use on my channel
Thanks for the review- definitely going to pick that up
Wahoo. I've been looking forever for the quarry! Can't wait!
Thx for the review, man!
Awesome review has always defo will be getting this at some point
I'm so ready, this is an instant download!¡! I will be taking my time with this one
Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review! It looks great!
Great review AcG sarcasm at its best details with none of the fluff proof!
Been waiting on this! I've been a fan since Until Dawn, but feel like they haven't really been able to recapture that magic since. (The anthology was okay, but just not that fun comparatively) *I really hope they've nailed that Until Dawn fun in this one!* -Thanks for the review!
I personally had a hard time enjoying Until Dawn, I'm not sure why but I think I just didn't enjoy the characters personalities in it, like frat boys and frat girls, it all felt a bit icky to me. Does this games characters compare to that? I like the core gameplay, choosing your own path etc. but the characters would be make or break
I love these kinds of games. Thanks for the review.
Thanks man. My girl has been looking forward to this since until dawn. Can’t wait. Perfect game to watch someone else play imo
The “men” in the game are 🌈 👬
I don't like video games but I LOVED watching my fiance play until dawn and I can't wait to watch this one
Yea I just smoke while wife plays
@@tonyxu3878 Okay?
@@tonyxu3878 and?
Picked this game up for $40 on ps5 and I’m having a blast. Definitely going to do another play through
I love games like this… definitely a day one buy for me
It's past day one. Buyer's Remorse, yet chief?
@@atlantic_love you seem like you want him to feel that just cause you have different feelings about the game.
@@smittenmittens1364 It's called an opinion, ding dong.
@@atlantic_love Errr no it's not an opinion to ask someone if they have buyers remorse. Use your words.
@@atlantic_love Ya ding dong
awesome review, as always. Thanks
Folks, keep in mind that UHD movies cost $30 and they are no longer than 3 hours. This game is 9-10 hours long and I belive the $70 price tag is very high for for game, but reasonable for purchasing 10-hours of entertainment (that can be played through again and again).
I get your argument but it doesn't work because gaming was always much longer than a movie. This is short for gaming, a movie comparison isn't relevant.
People always say there’s so much replay value but I’d bet 90% of the player base is a one and done type of player with these games. You make the choices you think are best and see how it plays out. Usually just the very devoted do multiple playthroughs.
@@TheProphegy It's illusion of choice anyway. 9/10 times the ending is the same. At least in Witcher 3 there were completely different endings
I mean.... who's buying movies for 30 dollars when you can just sail the seas and fish them up?
Yeah keep playing until you get sick of it
Great video review as always
9:22 did you just call Brenda Song, Britney Song. The disrespect 😭
Until dawn was incredible and lightning in a bottle. This one always seemed like wait for a deep sale
Great review as always!
Not gonna pay 90 AUD for essentially an interactive movie. I'll wait for sale.
Just got everything for $27 on sale. This game is amazing ! How did I miss the boat on this. Just played it for the first time.
Excellent review as always, been keeping a close eye on this game, these types of horror games are always fun to play if done right.
just started this, love it so far
Great review!
Great review! Looks like a solid game if you are willing to look past some quirky bugs
I’ve been looking forward to your review on this one. I love these type of games and I’m glad they finally made one that’s on Until Dawns level. I’ll probably wait until Halloween time to buy it so hopefully it’s a little cheaper by then. Great review man, take care.
when you said “this video is brought to you by” i got super nervous i thought they finally got you 😂😂😂
2:05 yes! They fixed Jacob's weird arm from the trailer!
Interesting, I never played Until Dawn but now I'll get a hold of a copy. Then I'll try this one. Nice review!
I'll probably end up getting this anyway although the whole tropey teens in tropey cabins in the tropey woods feels a bit unimaginative & played out now. I wish they'd do something more along the lines of Hellraiser or Elm Street where the villains aren't just comically lurking around in the shadows waiting until the characters are doing the whole "i don't have any sense of life preservation to know when it's time to GTFO" thing. Give us some villains with personality! Something different! Why is it always a cabin in the woods that always has some dirty basement with pitchforks and hooks dangling from the ceiling?
Oh perfect timing, thank you!
Thanks for such a great review Karak. I am looking forward to picking this up on release day. My favorite of the 4 preview games is Until Dawn. I enjoyed the Anthology Series, but Until Dawn had a far more entertaining narrative. IMO
Hyped. Already pre ordered.
Another great review, loved the Dark Anthology series playing with a friend. Probably will be buying unless I get lucky lol :P Keep up the great work :D
After watching through this review, I will pick it up. It has been on my radar, but not sure if it would actually be any good. Always love your opinion, and appreciate the reviews. Keep it up.
So far I'm really enjoying it despite a slow start. My only issue is the performance issues on a standard ps4 and thats a year later.
Great vid, thanks man. I’m a fan of all these, having played, and enjoyed (not all equally) all the Supermassive titles. This is a definite pick up for me.
Great review as always! Thank you. It's great to own a disc version Ps5, as the physical copy of the game on day 1 release costs 53 EUR in my country while the digital 69,99EUR (plus the disc can be loaned to a friend).
9:56 That lip twist looked hilarious lmao. Things like these often makes games more enjoyable ngl
Great review
Until Dawn is one of my favorite games but the dark pictures just didn't give me the same feeling as the original this one seems a lot more like until dawn lets hope its just as great, and thanks for the great review as usual my go to channel for when i need info on whether to buy upcoming games or not.
Oh it's even better than Until Dawn.
It may be ~10 hours for a single play through, but this game is meant to be played over and over again because of the numerous endings / trophies
5 months later and the notorious (immersion-breaking) bugs & glitches still haven’t been patched. The depth of field frequently glitches with characters’ hair. In some scenes, the character’s hair vibrates up and down. The mouths are frequently extremely wonky. Textures load in late in some scenes. The water graphics look like something from about 2 generations ago. I re-play Until Dawn from time to time, and it has none of these issues (or certainly not as noticeable).
Editorially… there are many missteps such as scenes fading to black before the dialogue has finished. Staying on a black screen for way longer than a movie ever would. At one point late in the game, we’re treated to a series of establishing shots that go nowhere. Music choices are really jarring in places and don’t sit well with the genre.
And the main monsters in the movie… well they’re poorly animated and just don’t look at all like what they’re supposed to be. In fact they look like the monsters from Until Dawn.
I’ve sat through the interminable end credits and seen how many people were involved in making this… and yet it all feels rushed and lacking in polish.
Definitely one to wait for a steep sale.
Great review as always 🙌✌️ but I believe that better for me to wait for some sale. Maybe they knock off the price soon on MS or PSN store?🤔
Thanks for the review, actually didn't know MP was delayed, kept me from buying it. Much appreciated.
I personally love these games, and I don't mind paying $60 bucks for them. Its not about the length, its about the re-playability, which these types of games have in spades, imho. And games with horror elements are so few & far between now, that I want to support them when I can, lest they stop making them.
How was the game?
@@bellaschnore1145
I personally enjoyed it, but its not for everyone. Its not perfect either, as the pacing can be meh at times, but overall I enjoyed it a lot. The story & characters kept me engaged, there were enough surprises, and the branching paths are more diverse than any other game of this type. You could watch multiple play-throughs (which I did) and see very different outcomes, adding to re-play. But like I said, not every enjoys these types of games.
Shawn M: well I think 60 bucks is way too much it's on sale right now at Best Buy for 19.99 get your copy now
@@renerodriguez9055 it's free now on PS+
The problem with replay is being forced to head the same dialogue and cutscenes everytime
