- The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best Christmas movie ever made. While also being the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol put to screen. Which is hilarious, because it's The Muppets. Look I just love this movie.

Uh, dude, Robin IS an established Muppet. Robin was even on the Muppet Show. He was also always voiced by Jerry Nelson as well. They chose well to use Robin as Tiny Tim.
I was like, "what did he just say?" when I heard that. But other than that, nice job.
Also, Pepe didn't exist yet.
@@Eidlones Yeah, he didn't exist until Muppets From Space.
Seriously. What kind of Muppet fan doesn't know about Sir Robin the Brave? They call him Sir Robin the Brave, and history one day will rave....he's daring and gallant...a mountain of talent...no wonder folks curtsey and wave... He's Robin, Sir Robin, the brave.
@@peterrealar2.067 he actually originally came about in muppet tonight
You did my man Robin dirty by calling him a "new muppet made to play Tiny Tim"
Yeah! What Muppet fan doesn’t know that Robin is already an established Muppet
Charles Dickens’ most underappreciated quote is definitely “light the lamp, not the rat”
Is that a real Charles Dickens quote?
@@musicbox193 it is as far as I’m concerned
“Put me out, put me out, put me out!!!”
In my mind the Muppets simply put on a production of A Christmas Carol and Kermit nailed the casting.
It's the muppet show with our very special guest star MICHAEL CAINE YEEEEEEAAAAHH🐸
Exactly, it’s the Muppet Show cast putting on a movie with special guest star Michael Caine.
4:27 Robin The Frog was first introduced in the 1971 film _The Frog Prince,_ he also appeared in _The Muppet Show_ where he was established canonically as "Kermit's Nephew" and even had a charted hit in the UK doing a song from a _Muppet Show_ album.
Yep, anyone who hasn't seen Robin the Frog sing "Halfway Down the Stairs" needs to go check it out. You just want to hug him! 🐸🤗
He was also a larger part in the earlier Muppet TV Christmas special “A Muppet Family Christmas”
Nowadays I can't help but love the puppet for Ghost of Christmas Past. The description in the book is of a spirit that flickers like a candle and is ever changing in Scrooge's eyes between youth and old age. In the film, not only is the ghost always shining with an inner glow, its features are just right to make it seem fitting for either extreme depending on the moment in the film.
Speaking of the ghosts, how they interact with Scrooge ties into your talk of camera angles. Past floats to meet Scrooge eye to eye, as a long forgotten friend. Present starts by towering over him, but chooses to shrink down to meet Scrooge closer to his level. As for Future, he stands ominously over Scrooge at all times, a suffocating presence he can't escape. It's like they're teaching him how to treat others by example, both good and ill
The Marley and Marley scene was terrifying to me as a child. I was scared of knockers for a couple of years, but couldn't really explain it to my parents that it derived from a Muppets Christmas movie.
You're not alone there, Friend. The Marley and Marley scene and the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come sequence often scared me out of the room, no matter how many times my family watched the thing.
I love micahel cain's peformance in this because he wasn't just biggest grump, he feels like a very selfish person. Yes he did jokes that he'd enjoy for himself not caring about what others would think and he did really want to make sure tiny tim was okay if for any reason so he didn't feel worse about his actions. Knowing that his actions is why that kid died is when it finally starts to hit him and you see that. Because he wants it to stop but the ghost isn't letting him off. Because it's not about acknowledging his greed hurt others but it's about drilling it into his head how horrible his greed is and how it hurts everyone around him.
If I could only pick one Christmas movie to watch during the holiday season, it would be this one without question! I've watched it with my family since I was little and even own the soundtrack because I love the music so much. This movie will forever be the most iconic version of A Christmas Carol in my book.
I have gotten soundtrack cds for other beloved Christmas movies but it’s just never the same without the lines that go around or in it. So I tend to put the movie on in the background to listen to it because I’ve watched it since I was very little that I can watch it without actually looking at the screen. Lol
In fact it’s been my go to movie to watch and listen to while I’m crocheting scarves and beanies for my family. I’m a new crocheter so I can’t look away from my work so it works out better to know the movie. Lol
Tiny Tim is actually played by Kermit’s little nephew robin.
I can't count the number of times I watched this movie, however I was so upset when Disney took out the breakup song when it released to blu ray and streaming. I have tried other Scrooge movies, but I keep coming back to this one. Michael Caine is the man! I still cry at the end every time. Just something about it... I'm so glad to see other people appreciate it as much too. Merry Christmas to you and yours this and every holiday.
"When Love is Gone" is now available on Disney+.
@@manxgirl They hid it though. You have to click "Extras" then "Full Length version" otherwise you watch the cut version. But I'm glad they restored it. Now if we can get a blu ray restored version I would love that so much.
I am thoroughly convinced that when Kermit, and thus Steve Whitmire, says "Life is made up of meetings and partings..." that he is deep down saying it for the whole cast and crew in reference to Jim and Richard Hunt. It just hits me harder than it should, or maybe thats the right amount and its sad so I want to say it shouldnt.
I always make it a point to watch this every year around Christmas along with the first two Home Alone films and a few other films and specials
What about Jim Carrey’s version? Or his grinch? They are so much fun. I hope you have, and if not I hope you try them.
@@firebladetenn6633 I watched the Jim Carey’s Christmas Carol and I liked it
As for the Grinch….I liked it as a kid and there are…parts of it I still like but it hasn’t aged all that great either
There’s a reason why I thought muppets were real people when I was a toddler. This movie was one of the reasons, because Michael Caine sold it in this movie.
this movie formed me as a child. i remember when i was about 8 years old. my mother just introduced me to this movie and i got sick for a week and had to stay home alone. i spent every single morning with watching this movie. i watch it every time i am upset or overwhelmed with feelings and i always have to cry. it’s definitely my favorite movie of all time.
The title says it all. 11/10. No notes.
One piece of information to add. Tiny Tim is actually played by one of the earliest Muppet characters, the small frog named Robbin who is canonically Kermit's nephew.
Top notch video. I really enjoyed it. This is probably my favorite Christmas movie as well. I have always said this is the best adaptation of the Christmas Carol.
As it's the movie's 30th anniversary it's been re released in cinemas. Just saw it and it was amazing. Almost cheered when they put When Love is Gone back into it.
Also my favourite Xmas movie 😊 I’ve read the novella most holiday seasons and I agree, as weird as it sounds, the muppet adaption best captures the essence of Dickens’ story
The thing I love most about this film (and I love the film so much) is that it put so much detail, so much ~historical~ detail into the costuming, including things that would literally never be seen by the average viewer.
Making a new Muppet to play Timy Tim? That's Robin - Kermit's nephew - who has been around since the 70s.
1) I 100% agree with your appreciation of TMCC and how it’s a must-watch every year.
2) Thank you for working in a Treasure Planet mention every chance you get lol
It’s one of the most heartfelt adaptations, but the Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey that came out awhile back is by far the most accurate to the book - it’s so tragic and creepy. Muppets & Jim Carrey are tops on my list every year
Can’t wait to watch this!!! “The muppet Christmas Carol” is my favorite and has been an annual required viewing!! Never gets old … I wonder if they will talk about the old version vs the new version aka the missing song (the love is gone) 😢
…
( After seeing )Edit:
Great video essay!
Honestly I’m so glad someone else feels this way!
Touched on all the highlights of the film and even some little fun details I didn’t know !
Amazing stuff brother, and this is why I subscribed.
Thank you and merry Christmas 🎁🎄
What a lovely, personal, yet shared, perspective of this beautiful film. I remember first watching this film in the cinema, and half a year later (ah the days of VHS) I got a copy on a cassette tape and proceeded to play it over and over again. When it came out on DVD I was heart broken to see what 'When love is gone' removed, but I'm so glad to see it having been put back even if it's through options on Disney+.
This truly is one of the best Christmas films, and one of the best Muppet movies. There is so much heart, it's just so visible and you can feel it in every frame. This is one of my yearly re-watches without fail, and sometimes it doesn't even need to be Christmas for me to put it on.
Wonderful work!
Okay, you had my full attention when I saw the thumbnail for your Prince of Egypt video (one of my favorite movies of all time, period), but once I saw the title for this movie (one of my favorite Christmas/childhood movies EVER), you had me subscribing😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I watch this movie absolutely every year for Christmas, and sometimes even throughout the year with ZERO shame. I adore this movie with all my heart, and I cry EVERY. TIME. I watch this!❤
Thank you. Dawg I absolutely LOVED this movie, from when I saw it when I was little to now nearly a decade later. These videos give me a whole new perspective on each show and movie you cover and allow me to see new subtle things I wouldnt have seen before. I would have never noticed the height difference being subtle way of conveying authority.
Btw, since your Avatar video I started watching Avatar with my mother and youve officially shown us our new favorite show, so thank you for that as well
Have a merry christmas my guy
Every year. Every single year. My gf and I watch this together at least once, but usually more than once because we own it on multiple formats. Michael Caine is amazing in it and I totally appreciate the way he played it because; and I know how pretentious it may sound but, Shakespeare is one of my favorites and I never really cared for theater until I saw Hamlet performed in real life. Now I have a deep love and appreciation for all kinds of theater and performances.
First of all i love your videos!
secondly, isn't Tiny Tim muppet, just Robin, Kermit's nephew?
Tiny Tim was played by an already esrablished Muppet. That's Kermit's nephew Robin.
It’s really hard for me not to cry while watching this movie, even casually. I grew up with the animated Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey, but I will take the muppets version any day now.
I agree with you wholeheartedly with regard to the Brilliance love emotion that is this movie. There’s just one little thing I feel the need to mention and that is Tiny Tim was not created for this movie the character name is Robin and he’s Kermit nephew
happy someone appreciates and loves this movie as much as me. i was born one year after it came out and have been watching it for years. one of my favorite movies by far
Yup! It’s a tradition of my families to watch this every Christmas. It’s very well done!
wow man you're gonna make me cry lol, this was such an important film to myself and my sister. Also my favorite christmas movie of all time
Same! I used to watch this with my sister when we were little, its my favorite Christmas movie. Always brings me back to childhood. 😊
What a sensational, well-written, aptly voiced report. The narrator has a sweetness in his reading. Very nice. Well done. Dennis
Happy 30th anniversary to the Muppet Christmas Carol
I can't believe you've convinced me to watch a muppet movie
the muppets as a whole is an amazing media empire. YOu literally cant go wrong. Jim henson made something magical from the first show and first movie, his kids and complany have continued that legacy. i would give them a second shot it might surprise you
4:33: Pepe the "King Prawn" wasn't even created when The Muppets Christmas Carol came out. He debuted two four years later in the show Muppets Tonight.
1:47 Yes. You should continue to shoehorn Treasure Planet wherever and whenever you can. That movie is criminally underrated!
It's one of my favorites too. I just did a blog post about the Muppet Christmas Carol too...I listen to the audio book every year too.
You must not be an OG Muppet fan to not know that Robin, Kermit’s nephew, has been a part of the Muppet cast since the 1970s.
“Creating a new Muppet to play tiny Tim” You do know that Robin (Kermit’s nephew) existed before this movie right? I really hope that was a joke on your part.
Alright, I'll have to give this movie a watch, now
At last a literate review on the film, So glad you like it and you are right about being made with love for Jim, I was there so I know that to be true ❤
I like watching videos with objectively correct titles. Thanks for speaking the truth!
I watch it every year. I can't believe they cut out "The Love is Gone" song
I love this movie too, glad to see it's appreciated still!
This movie and Nighmare Before Xmas are my only two xmas movies I'll watch. I love them.
Me and walrus in the back and front of lecture: "Treasure planet! Treasure planet! TreaSURE-"
Robin wasn't created for this film... I recall Robin distinctly from well prior to this. EDIT (after a little research) Yes, that is Robin, and Robin has been around since 1971.
Otherwise I agree with this assertion of The Muppet Christmas Carol as the Best Christmas Movie Ever Made and best adaptation of A Christmas Carol.
I agree, one of the best Christmas movies ever made.
I'm ready to watch this entire (I'm sure wonderful) video, but I'd like to start it on a very *wrong* note:
Spirited is the best A Christmas Carol adaptation 😜
(Was literally thinking about making a UA-cam short saying as much while watching your Treasure Planet video, so this one being suggested on the end screen was hilariously perfect timing)
Ok, unpausing the video now
They restored the full version and put it up on Disney plus under the Extras tab.
The songs were done by long time Henson collaborator and award winning song writer Paul Williams. He wrote Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie as well as 5 #1 Billboard hits, 3 of which were for the Carpenters. The man is a powerhouse and his BEST work, IMHO, is The Muppet Christmas Carol.
This is my favorite Muppet film
EEK! Tiny Tim is played by Kermit's nephew Robin, who is as old as the original Muppet Show! :) Not a new muppet :)
Tiny Tim is played by Kermit’s nephew Robin
That’s not a new Muppet playing Tiny Tim. That’s Robin, Kermit’s nephew.
This movie introduced me to both the Muppets and Christmas Carol, and I watch it every Christmas
"Oof, that was kinda spooky, are we sure the kids aren't gonna to be too scared with this stuff?" "No this is culture" that's right there is the exchange for me which sells why this movie works so damn well. And I unabashedly love this version of A Christmas Carol( there's two others that I also frequently rewatch at this time of the year. Huh funilly enough all three versions of that I love of this original story are all owned by Disney, and I mean the Dickens classic not twists on it like that one with Matthew McConaughey or Scrooged starring Bill Murray)
Great video! While I know I've seen this movie before a long time ago, it never really stuck with me. I'll definitely be watching it again soon! Thanks!
It is tradition to watch this movie every year
OKAAAAYYYY let's relax, flying walrus....
The Best Classic Christmas Films are Elf, Charlie Brown, and This.
Absolutely.
If you think Tiny Tim was played by a new Muppet then you are not a real Muppet fan.
I just watched the movie earlier today! Oh my gosh!!
Would you consider reviewing "Violent Night"? Yes, it's extremely violent, has some potty humor, and features an incredibly jaded Santa. But their is ❤️ in it. Especially, in the dialogues between Santa and little Trudi.
that's not a new muppet! that's Robin as Tiny Tim!
i havent even watched this movie and this video made me cry. that might also be because i'm sleep deprived but lets go with the nicer explanation
Recent subscriber to the channel 👋🏻 Looking forward to the new year when I can leave my lockdown bunker on a regular basis and mess around with mates! Happy holidays y’all 🙂
Based.
Pepe the shrimp???? A new muppet for tiny tim????
For the record I think Tiny Tim was Robin Kermit’s nephew
I love this version but don’t ask me to only pick 1 adaptation because there are so many good ones
And Treasure Planet is one of my top favorite movies
Agreed.
I do concur
I just want to take issue with the title before the ads even end. This is indeed a great movie, but it's no Die Hard.
Bravo!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Iunno, the Ghost of Christmas Past is still pretty weird.
Can you post the link to the video you referenced about the costuming?
Muppet Christmas Carole is SO MUCH BETTER than the original book. You can tell Charles Dickens was paid by the word because _how else could a man possibly go on for THREE PAGES about a fucking DOORKNOCKER?!_
I love this movie and I agree with your for me it's the adaptation of Christmas Carol with the most "Spirit" to it. I even made this cover of "It feels like Christmas" and cannot even believe it's been 30 years since. Sure the ghost of the xmas past description is different, but this floating ghostly girl haunted my childhood and imprinted there. This is my cover of the song ua-cam.com/video/Uwr7x3tVb0c/v-deo.html As a child I grew up with Henson works and I was well aware that was for me also the first movie that was his but wasn't. And well 3 decades later, I agree this might be one of the best if not the best xmas movie ever
Nope, but ain't no shame in being, like, eighth best or something
This movie is my favorite, I can’t even wait till December to watch it sometimes.
But, I don’t like their version of Belle. They should have told her not to smile while singing that she’s going to leave him all alone. On Christmas. My husband and I tend to skip it. Otherwise it’s perfect.
She's smiling at the memories of the love they once shared. It's in the way she's looking to the horizon, the future beckons.
True, Christmas isn't the best time to be dumped but it's necessary for the story.
Despite being a musical number its the most accurate breakup scene I know of.
Anyway, not trying to say you're wrong, just how I see it.
Wrong it's a muppet family Christmas
Great video! We made a video on about It's a Wonderful Life this week! Check it out on our channel to watch!
this is legit just a worse copy from “the unsung perfection of the muppets christmas carol” quit plagarizing bro
