It's quite shocking to hear it is done in the office in the US. In my country it's done in hospital, with anesthesia and lasts about 1 hour. The reason being there might be the need to do a biopsy or there might be potential findings that require extra procedures. Especially in men with very large prostates with hematuria.

Just to say, I’ve recently been through a pelvic cancer, and went through procedures and treatments and surgery. Aside from the surgery, you are refused sedation. I was shocked how doctors lie right to your face, portraying procedures as all sunshine and rainbows and calling your pain “discomfort”, or only saying it’s quick. When someone is inflicting pain on you, their idea of quick seems like an eternity to the patient. If we voice concern, we’re gaslighted to make us feel like we’re the only ones experiencing trauma, and making us feel like we have weak personalities compared to their other patients….and they get away with this. I was tortured at times. And of course no pain meds for the aftermath, just take Tylenol. I don’t love taking pain meds, but there were times I could have used a few for severe pain for a day or two after. They’d rather you suffer. This guy is the same way with the same attitude, and this is the reason I never went back for follow ups. They lull you into a sense that they care about your comfort but then torture you. They can explain all they want, but they’re all the same with their lies and it’s so sad.

Thanks for your feedback. I hear what you are saying. Cystoscopy can definitely be uncomfortable and intimidating for some men but other guys cruise through with local “numbing”. Like most things in life, everyone is different. If a patient is uncomfortable, having the procedure performed under anesthesia makes total sense. There is no right or wrong with this one. Thanks again.

I feel your presentation here is quite a good one. For starters your delivery is nice and slow and well measured. I'm on a waitlist here in Australia. My prostate is only moderately enlarged but my urination requires my assistance or flow is very weak. I found by pushing into my bladder with my hands I get better flow and it increases the emptying. An ultrasound revealed that I have a diverticulum in my bladder. However, that diverticulum may have been there since birth! I am now 70. I don't really want the cystoscopy but who knows what is making it so difficult to pee? Hoping the cystoscopy will shed more light as to why ? Thank you kindly for your video coach. It was helpful.

Thanks for your input. Agree. cystoscopy can be very intimidating for men. For urologists, it can be a very important component in trying to understand what’s going on. Many men tolerate it in the office while others just undergo sedation… everyone is different, just have to decide what is right for you .
