- It's the UK's deadliest terror attack to date. On December 21, 1988, a bomb ripped apart a Pan Am passenger flight heading to the US for Christmas from Heathrow. The bomb detonated 38 minutes after take-off and the aircraft came crashing to the floor in Lockerbie, Scotland. All 259 passengers and crew were killed along with a further 11 people on the ground. One of the first on the scene reporters was Lorraine Kelly, who now 35 years later is returning to the Scottish town for the first time for a new documentary. She joins us on the sofa.

This was a truly awful disaster. Unfortunately, remember it all too well. Sad that Graig kept getting the date wrong. Not 1998, but 21st of December (1988).
That threw me at first...I knew it was in the late 80's.
@SMichaelDeHart If Graig was reading text from autocue, then that error is i.m.o unforgivable. Graig is near the same age as me so would have seen news reports.

@fd5927 agreed. I'm now 59yo, in 88. I was 2 years out of college and a rookie Insurance Special Investigator in Fire and Fraud losses in southern West Virginia. So I well remember the horrible incident.
American here. I was 35, and remember this very clearly. Absolutely horrible and tragic.

The year should have been corrected, he said 1998 twice, you would think someone should have picked up on this error.

I was shocked to see some of the aircraft is dumped in a Lincolnshire scrap yard, even seen people uploading videos on UA-cam picking through bits.
I was frightened for my month old son n the world he'd been born into.

It was 1988 on the Winter Solstice, I was 12 when this happened.
Craig could have made a simple mistake / read the autoque wrong.

This could have happened anywhere. If the plane was delayed 30 minutes longer it could have come down in a big place like Leeds.
