I would have dearly loved to have had the opportunity & honor to have spoken about music with a person with that kind of musical mind. What a great question that was concerning the legendary Mr. Bud Powell. 🤟
That's the simplest answer, yet we know that's not what Barry was referring to. Geniuses like Bud or Monk wouldn't make "odd" chord progressions "just because". They were making musical statements.
Can you drop a link so I can watch the rest of this?

Barry was one of the greats who loved jazz so much he decided he wanted to make it comprehensible to the rest of us. And that he did.
People forget that Barry was there as it were happening and he was a major contributor to jazz as we know it.
Barry was the truth, and his undomitable spirit is still with us.
Extremely great lessons 🎼 🎶 🎵
Glad you enjoyed! 👍

He is the Obi Wan Kenobi of Jazz theory!
This is one of my favorite Bud Powell songs that Barry is playing. It’s called “Dusk in Sandi”
👍
Lmfao for anyone stumbling onto this as their first introduction to the late great Dr. Harris.
Cause Bud wanted to 🤔🤔
