Lived on the Big isle in kona from the late 70's to 93'. I had the 9th Force 30 from the mold custom built in Hilo and I was commercial fishing doing 4-5 day and night long trips all over the island. Used to do "around the isle" fishing trips from Honokohau and back! So I was really blessed and know all the remote areas of the inaccessible coastline of the island. I loved to fish alone!! It was the ultimate challenge!!there have been some really heavy guys that fished alone in the rough water parts around the Big isle. Kona is awesome, but the water is so calm it's not like the trade wind exposed waters of the big isle. It gets so rough, there are very few people who fiish these areas, especially when its blowing 30 knts plus or even gales!!!! You need to have a boat like a raddon or a force! Even so, its spooky when the seas get 30 ft plus especially when the current is ripping against the wind and swell train!!! Very few people go out in it!!! Like I said "Heavy"!!!!! Been scuba and free dive spearfishing all my life in the Islands. Born and raised here surfing and the 6:30 ocean was my life! I know the area where your at very well! My friends were down there 4 wheel camping and diving, and they had a classic Hawaiian "legend" story told by many happen to them. So if you happen to see a really old Hawaiian woman in super old tattered and torn clothes come and ask you for a ride, give her one, but don't be surprised if she suddenly disappears from the car like she evaporated into the ether!!!!!! The many famous legends of madam Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire!!!! Watching the volcanoe @ kilauea erupting over 20 years, especially from my awesome flybridge Force 30 fishing boat was epic!!!! Pu'u O'o was fountaining up to 2000 ft. In the 80's and seeing it by myself on my boat at night pulling huge gorilla ahi, with all the lava flows running down the slopes towards the sea was incredible!!! Thanks for the diving videos brah! Enjoy doing what some of the heaviest guys have been doing over there long ago!! Your following in the footsteps of some legendary Hawaiian freeive spearfiherman!! It's so Heavy-duty dropping down to some of the many ulua hales and seeing huge schools in the hundreds of big uluas!!! I used to call the big hundred plus white, "Aukea" ulua, "Cadillacs" those can get close to 200 lbs!!! Guys like Dennis Okada, Frank Ota, Bruce Ayau, Brian Yoshikawa, Wendel Ko, the Naki Brothers on Molokai. ...... and many more! I was blessed to learn from many of them, and your living the dream now!!! In old Hawaii guys used to spear huge uluas with goggles and Hawsiian slings!! Jack Ackerman got a 100 lb ulua back in the 50's or something which was famous!!! North k. coast, oh yeah. I know it so well!! My boat was the ultimate custom built Hawaiian fishing vessel! Single Diesel engine and straight shaft setup with enough fuel capacity for days and days!!!! I dreamed of getting my dream boat custom built and fishing and of course diving since I was very young and I worked hard to make that dream come true!!!!! Big isle "mana" is so heavy!! The ancient Hawaiians were amazing. Doing what the Ali'i did long ago is following kings!!!! Always respect!! Aloha, D.L. fishing with Kings!!!!!
@@nickbaileyspearfishing don’t get me wrong, the journey is awesome. Especially if you have a truck properly set up to do so. But now I’m on a different journey, nice Cruz in my boat, away from everyone.
I’m so glad I got a little boat I used to off road everywhere to go dive and I loved it. But the life has been taken out of my truck honestly probably save money In the long run having a truck and small boat.
When spotting someone through obstacles, use driver-passenger to guide them. Not left or right. You guys rock and I love the videos. It gets me out there exploring our island.
You should come hunt monterey! Then we can cook and camp out on the Rubicon trail, I grew up near it and you'll get a real crash course in crawling rocks!
You should definitely do more off-road and camping videos now that you got the truck setup, maybe truck build series Hawaii overland with all your gear
Should do a freediving course type series. I think your channel would blow up. Someone is gonna do it sooner or later, may as well be you. Just throw all the knowledge from the courses into a video series
Just bought a bunch of merch to support the dream!! Im heading to Hawaii next year for my birthday and hoping just to meet you guys and treat you both to a meal. Just would be the greatest birthday present and experience. Will be getting my free dive cert soon here in Cali. Bought a Spreeprong 8’ three prong and hope to do some diving out there.
