@UncleMikeRetro my top end is pretty light on performance. It's on the lower end of a mid-tier gaming rig. I'm also not much of a gamer, so it's entirely functional.
Same here, but I always scrounge I7 CPUs.. though one of them was a laptop. But lets not talk about my "I want a laptop" phase.. lol. I7-2700, I7-4770, I7-4790, I7-8700, and now I7-10700.
Interesting. It turns out that the gain is twice as much per core.It would be interesting to look at the new dual core processor and compare it to the 1 generation I5 450M.
It's pretty cool to see the generational leaps of the i5 from 1st t,4th.8th and12th generation. I've only used the desktop class i5's from the 2nd to 4th gen then 10th gen. the leap from a 4th to a 10th is insane. not much of a leap from a 2nd to a 3rd then a 4th gen. but those systems were all free to me. And brought me back to world of tinkering with computers.
To be honest the real difference started with the 8th gen when AMD started to give them competition. Everything under the 8th gen did not see too many improvements over the other generations. I still have an i7 2600 computer and an i7 7700 based computer and the 2nd gen can almost do anything that the 7700 does (in gaming at least). Doesn't look like it was worth upgrading from 2nd to 3rd or from 4th to 7th
The separation of the 8th from the 4th on the scale of generations is insignificant. Intel is cheating. And I bought for my son AMD Ryzen 5. Intel, in my opinion, is on the "dark side". Nice video, Uncle Mike! 👍
I really have no experience with these CPUs. The only one I've ever had is the 3rd-gen i5 in my MacBook Pro! Fascinating to see the relative similarity in performance of the 8th and 4th gen models - at one point they were neck-and-neck until the extra cores pulled the 8400 ahead later on. That 12600K is amazing, though!
Hello my friend! Yes, I was surprised at the race between 4th and 8th Gens too. I seriously expected a wider margin. But, the extra 6 cores DO make a difference in video editing and streaming. Hmm
I miss all of you too! Not sure that is in my future. I got invited to the livestreams (like this last Sunday with Dave), but the hate for Windows and PC folk/equipment on them is enough to keep me away.
The recent gen's performance compared to the older ones reminds me of the difference between Core2 and P4. Frankly they have lost their minds on tech advancements and needs to slow down for a while.

Neat idea! I tell you, though, I could have run the single core Cinebench r23 and just sped it up by a factor of 2000% the i5 450M was that slow.
