4:17 THANK YOU. I don't know why people forget that Blu-Rays are hella durable compared to DVDs. That was one of their biggest selling points back in 2006.
On my complete saga box set episode 5 is the only one with scratches and they dont affect playback

Star Wars home video releases have had mediocre to genuinely bad artwork since the tail end of the VHS era.

I love the minimalist design of the packaging, but do agree about the fact about the posters underneath the discs. That would've been a superb feature.
I adore the original trilogy, not so much any of the others except Last Jedi. So I think I might get the 1-6 Blu Ray box set (the one with tatooine on the cover)

Hey Luke, great video as always mate. I was toying with getting the set , kinda have the same thoughts as you about it. I think for the time being I will hang on and stick with my 2011 set and the individual releases of the sequels/Disney era.
I loved the old documentaries on the prequel DVD's and have kept them along with original trilogy DVD's from 06 for the laserdisc theatrical cuts.
Does the 3D Force Awakens special edition have the commentary from JJ on the standard Blu or just the 3D disc?

Thank you for sharing this video. I've got the star wars set on Blu-Ray, called "Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga". I brought it pre-owned from C.e.X. So far I finished watching the prequel and original trilogies. The picture quality on both trilogies does look a lot better. I saw the scene where Greedo says Maclunkey just before he was killed by Han Solo.
I bought the 4k Blu-rays separately. I had the Target exclusive for ROS ordered - so I just wanted all of them in 4k with the new special features. So, I bought them over a period of 2 weeks. Basically came out to the same price as the set. But, really wasn't interested in paying for the set all at once.
The amount of times I’ve added this to my basket and not bought it. Luckily I have all the other stuff you mentioned and if it had a ton of new documentaries etc, I would go for it. Really enjoyed your thoughts on this and great T-shirt too!!
Yeah man I wouldn't say it's essential really, especially when the same new transfers are on Disney+. If you're not fussy over blu-ray vs. streaming, there really isn't much of an incentive to get this new set really.

RazorwireReviews mind says get the Blu Ray set at £70, but heart says drop £200 on 4K (which I’m not set up for yet) given it’s the future. So I’m stuck on whether to bite the bullet and make the 4K investment now. My fear is that buying the Blu-Ray set is only delaying the inevitable. A nice problem to have I guess, ha.

Great review, I agree with how they could of gone the extra mile with it though as with the future being streaming it’s (hopefully not) but highly likely may be the last physical box set release along with the 4K box set as well they should of just got everything from the behind the scenes archive and put it in, still, after consulting with the force over many weeks I thought fuck it I’ll just buy it and it’s true what you said they may want people to pay more attention to Disney plus than the box set these days which is why it looks kinda minimal in its effort

Would you recommend this boxset to someone who has Disney+ but wants physical copies of all 9 films?
I personally have Disney+ but I still got the box set (the US 4K version). I definitely recommend it. Having them on physical discs and in 4K is amazing, even though I can technically watch them on Disney+

I'm planning to get the individual 4k releases when they go on sale at some point I guess (CDON Disney Weekend). I haven't even gotten these on blu-ray (except for the VII, VIII, Rogue One and Solo) because I just despise the changes so much on the original trilogy and not fan of the prequal trilogy either. Just have the original trilogy DVD boxset from back in the day, but haven't watched those either much because of the changes. However, I've been kinda itching to revisit the prequal trilogy since I haven't seen those since the 3rd one came out in the theaters (which I absolutely hated back then). It's just so annoying that episode IX does not have uniform case art that would fit the new releases. Gah! So hard is life.
Ahh the uniformity struggle. I feel ya. Sounds like you'd be better off checking out either Harmy's Despecialized editions of the original trilogy, or, even better in my opinion, the Project 4K77, 4K80 etc. film print fan restorations.
I work in the printing industry and the box art is done very cheaply. They use the Death Star color scheme (which is black and white) throughout the Boxset because it’s much cheaper to print than using any colors. Once a color like Red, Blue, Yellow is added, the price to print goes up. It’s disappointing because I know now they didn’t put any thought in this Boxset and the cheap printing confirms it. This is the greatest franchise ever, and we (as fans) deserve better in terms of a quality look and quality extras. And of course, the original versions of 4,5,6, but that’s a separate argument. I’m a huge Star Wars home video collector I got all the major releases for rise of Skywalker for the UK and the 4K box set from Amazon.
That said I really want the Japanese Skywalker 4K box because they have the book separate and three digipak for the discs in a big huge outer box.
Interestingly though with the Japanese version it has the Blu-ray special features discs with the 4K but not the Blu-ray movies.
Ultimately I really couldn’t go into what I have in my collection because I have multiple VHS releases both pan and scan and widescreen, DVD and Blu-ray releases.
In terms of Blu-ray this includes 3-D, 4K and standard Blu-ray with steelbooks.
Also worth noting it’s not just the skywalker saga movies and anthology movies but also TV shows like clone wars and rebels
Eva H i have almost every release from dvd to bluray and 3 vhs sets. And all 4k individuals. Only version of bluray i dont have is the 2015 and 2013 sets since i have the 2011 set and the sept 2019 re releases
Darth Luke now I am assuming you even live in the US or Australia if you have the individual 4K releases.
Is the 2013 release you are referring to the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack, If so we got it as a DVD only over here in the UK and I have to 2015 release on Blu-ray of the complete saga with Vader on the front.
Hopefully one day I’ll get to absolute zero in terms of what I want out of all the home video releases for VHS/DVD/Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D/4K so I can go off and track down some laserdisc releases.
Laserdisc so happens to be my favourite format of all time as well and some of the best laserdisc releases have come out of Japan from back in the day.
Eva H i am in the us. Gonna order all vhs releases and all bluray released eventually but for now im set. I also have 2 of the 2008 sets with the gout releases. Gonna hold onto them because they will be worth more someday
Darth Luke What was that about the 2008 releases are you referring to the DVD box sets (prequel trilogy and original trilogy)?
If you are referring to those releases from 2008 they’re worth a bit of money especially the original trilogy I have those releases sealed as that’s how I purchased them on eBay.
I pretty much nearly finished my VHS collection but it’s a nice little project I’ve been correcting religiously (off and on) since 2017.
The US version of the SW box set for Blu-ray has artwork like a book so much better than UK version
Great review! and i thought i was the only one who bought the star wars 2020 blu-ray collection even though i have the 2011 blu-ray boxset but i was just going to buy the Rise of Skywalker but when i saw the boxset at asda i said to myself what the hell and bought that instead. I have been tempted to buy the 4k releases but i don't think it's worth it because i have checked my 4k movie's and compared them with the blu-rays and there isn't much difference and it wasn't worth spending £150 for the same movie's i just bought last year.
Good job with the review, i think the transfers look much better for the most part especially the original trilogy(watched the empire strikes back and was blown away by the quality of sound and picture compared to 2011 blu ray. And on a side note my new hope blu ray is sticking for about 20 seconds as they enter the cantina. Very annoying. Also the price has just gone down further to 54 pounds . 11 pounds cheaper than if you pre ordered. Not good .i got it for 60 gifted to me but still a bit of a cheek if you ask me.

I live in the US but I bought the UK version simply for storage purposes lol I don't have much room to store the huge box set from the US version... so atleast I saved over $100 by getting the UK version. I don't have a 4K player so simple blu ray works fine for me. the design is very bland but I don't really mind bc I'm a minimalist anyways.

I have both the blu ray and 4k versions of the skywalker saga but if i do watch star wars i watch the despecialized editions by Harmy, even though i have upgraded to 4k i still buy blu rays most of the time as i never see that much of a big difference between blu ray and 4k

I think Disney should do a release with a John Williams isolated score track. That's the BEST part of Superman:The Movie Special Edition dvd and blu ray releases. ☺☺☺

I mainly prefer Blu Ray too, plus I have tons of other home video versions of the original trilogy that I’ve collected too, VHS, Betamax, Laserdisc, DVD and Blu Ray, I would love to own the big 4k box set, but I don’t have a way to play them. Lol, it’s just crazy, how many more ways can they release all the films and how much more advanced can the technology become.? Also, is the sequel trilogy your favorite.? I grew up in the era of the prequels as well as the sequels, but it’s hard not to be in love with the original trilogy, I think the originals will always be my favorite, but all the films have a special place in my heart. It just amazes me how much the franchise has grown, the tv shows, the anthology films, 9 official films and now there is more to come I’m reading. It’s kinda scary to think about sometimes. But I love it all, as said, I don’t own a 4k player, but I will have to eventually get the 4k box set to be complete on all the viewing ways…
No, I think overall, from bell to bell, I still prefer the original trilogy of course. But The Last Jedi is undoubtedly my favourite Star Wars film!
I bought the 4K set despite not having 4K player. I see it as an investment (I likewise bought the VHS ISD executor set a year or two back despite no longer having access to VHS) I managed to preorder it for 180 before it went up to 200. I love sets like it (Bond 50, Potter Hogwarts collection). Also I had the 2015 (and not 2011) saga set which is kinda bland with its packaging so the 4K set is an upgrade. Moreover, seeing the design of this set I preferred the design of the 4K set. Honestly I would have rather Disney go all in on a 400 quid set much like the Wizards Collection back in the day. Disney are terrible for home video releases. I have the MCU phase box sets released and there’s no info on what features are on there either so you actually have to go on the bonus discs to find out what is what

Certainly a bit of a missed opportunity, to bring back all the special features and of course the original Versions of the first three films. Don‘t like most of the changes Lucas made, especially the new jabba scene. Ruins the build up to that character totally, the CGI Version looks nothing like jabba in the last film and it‘s really not needed at all. Also disappointing, that we don‘t get all of the known Rise of Skywalker Special Features. I bought the 4K Set and quite like the minimal design though. A bit hit or miss for me the whole package after all; but it‘s Star Wars. So I had to get it... ;)

If only they didn't exist (I'd say that about Solo as well). The only good thing about Rise of Palpatine was it made me realize that Last Jedi wasn't as terrible as I thought it was the one and a half times I watched it. Rise of Palpatine was just an embarrassing mess on every level, while Last Jedi had some good moments. To be honest as far as I'm concerned the only Disney Star Wars film I consider canon is Rogue One as the other four may as well not exist, they just don't interest me, they're just not the Star Wars I grow up loving (neither is Rogue One to be honest but it's still a decent film)
