Jaffa title originally being Demigods makes so much sense. Stronger and longer lived than regular people. Should have woven that into the mythos it answers some questions.
Everything is a product of its time. SG1/A were great IMHO partly because of their humor. Maziatta(sp?) didn’t get why fans had problems with SGU (Michael Shanks does). Do you really want SG rewritten with 2021 norms? NB: SGU is pretty good if you’re not expecting SG.
@@Scottlp2 i loved/liked Sgu. And no i would not want to see a 2021 (norms) stargate where its not about the series but the "woke" message. but hey thats how you in a "honest way indeed" can increase profit as a studio. But would i watch it? ofcourse i would, i love stargate.
I know they've been saying it for a long time, but ... it's coming back. It may have better funding, if it becomes a Disney property. And that would mean, General Jack O'Neill is a Disney Princess. ... that's how that works, right? :) That could explain part of the delay, as they have considered it a profit making franchise, but adding to it would be expensive. The whole world of who owns what properties, and how they decide to monetize them, is rather complex. Dumping money into things that are about to be sold aren't a great idea. But dumping money into a previously successful franchise that you just bought, is a great idea.
@Shawn Tipton Fortunately those sequels have yet to see the light of day in terms of a script--they would have ignored the entire SG television universe story and either rebooted or gone off on their own tangent. The fanbase of the show is far greater to appeal to than those who saw the movie (as well as the audience of the TV shows that ALSO saw the film, for which this series was a continuation of.)
@Shawn Tipton so we really should be viewing the series as another universe, though some of the things are the same as the movie, but slightly different. i'm fine with that.
@Shawn Tipton You refer to the Bill McCay books where it's set in another galaxy, ra's ships were capable of dishing out tens petatons per caputal primary blast-cannon volleys, the Boat of a Million Years, Ra was actually the last of his kind, built stargates and his ships could cross galaxies in a few months to a full year? You and I are of the same mind. I loved the movie and those books. I never cared much for the series.
I actually really liked some of the original plot points. Like kewalski not getting taken over by the symbiote, as I really would’ve liked to have seen more of him. Or the hand device being able to open the gate, as it would enforce the image of the Go’ould having “divine powers” that could open pathways to the heaven and hells of the various people they rule over. And how tealc betrayed Apophis (I don’t care for the apep name). And more variety in the set locations would’ve been nice. I know they had limits but I’d love to have seen some worlds that weren’t obviously filmed in Canada or a set.
I always wondered about that caveman from episode 1, he broke a Jaffa's back in half with his bare hands and was ballsy enough to throw rocks at them. Rocks which wouldn't be blocked by shields mind you. I wish they did something more with em, hell I thought he was or would become Ronin for a couple of episodes.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind the Goa'uld hand device being able to open Stargates. I mean, that scene in the pilot makes way more sense that way, and it could have strengthened why the Goa'ulds are perceived as gods, not to mention did the Asgard, the Nox, and even future Cassandra have that exact same technology.
in the alternate reality movie continuum teal'c uses an device that he attaches to the gate that not only dials the gate it also provides power to the gate for the dialing process. as if this tech was normal to the gould. we can assume that Apophis had this tech from the beginning of the pilot and we the viewer just never saw the device being used up until this point. or at least this is how i imagine it happened in my head.
future Casandra uses that tech we have still yet to know of. but then again she was at least 70 years old in stargate command when this took place, so perhaps we will one day have this kind of tech.
@ken parvu that was very sad, i mean they could all be resurrected if an new series were to be made, but i don't know if they would ever consider this idea. we still have the time traveling puddle jumper.
@ken parvu i'm not saying it has to be an big change, like the example i was thinking was someone discovers how to fix the asgard DNA issues, but they need to go back in time to warn the asgard of what not to do when it comes to cloning themselves, perhaps they don't need to physically go back in time to send this message, but this idea would require them to understand the asgard history before they attempt such a message. but your right, it could change history so much that it could cause the asgard to not ever meet the tauri and who knows, they may not end up dealing with the replicators or the Ori. obviously we wouldn't want this, the puddle jumper could only time travel as little as 500 years back in time. so maybe this would be a bad idea, unless they figured out how the time needed to an even lesser time into the past. i'm just sad they had to die, they searched and searched for an cure to their cloning dilemma and never could figure it out, and then the obvious threat of the Ori being yet another issue along with the replicators.
i dont rember the epsiode but one of the best lines ever in the show was where jack was talking to the reporter and tells him "It's 'O'Neill', with two L's. There's another Colonel O'Neil with only one L, and he has no sense of humor at all."
My headcannon always assumed that Kurt Russels O'Neil used to be more of a jokester like Richard Dean Andersons "O'Neill" was, but since the movie begins with his kid having died not long ago, maybe just a few months or hell even weeks, he was still grieving for him. We saw that in the movie when the Airforce guys show up to tell him he's reinstated that he was virtually suicidal. Heck, he was choosen for the assignment due to the fact that he WAS suicidal. He'd have no problem blowing himself and the others up with the nuke they brought with them if shit went down. But he slowly changes throughout the movie, he bonds with Skaara etc and regains his "will" to live again. So by the time we see Richard Dean Anderson play Jack "O'Neill" a ´couple of years later, he has moved on (of course he misses his son and still is hurt by that, but he has moved on) he's back as "himself".
"Humorless" Kurt Russel O'Neil after befriending Skarra and finding a reason to live: "How ya doing? Hmm? *wink*" "Send my regards to King Tut asshole!" and finally at the end, after helping liberate Abydos and blowing up a Nuke in Ra's face: "Yeah, I think I will [be okay", and smiling sincerely. So yeah, I never had any trouble reconciling Russel's and Anderson's differences in portrayal. It's the fucking Gah-hoo-ladabababa-cheap-TV-Aliens-retcon that bugged the hell of me. They took a frightening, lovecraftian entity like Ra and made him part of a race of Party City cosplayers.
same. and yes shar'rey is naked, that part was unnecessary tbh, but you have to remember the show was on showtime at this time and the network pretty much said they wouldn't allow the show to not have nudity at least in the pilot. but whatever, the show's story is where it shined. having sex and nudity in shows nowadays isn't necessary but they do it all the time because of pressure from the networks. sometimes your not in full control in what you are writing.
@@5226-p1e The Goua'uld are parasites, they are completely selfish. It makes sense for Apophis to take advantage of a defenseless Sha're from a character standpoint. It's not about sex to him, it's about power.
@@paulcoy9060 i agree, but i wasn't talking about that aspect of the conversation, i was talking about the fact that the network essentially coerced the show writers into showing nudity, even though they didn't want nudity in the show. eventually they came down to an arrangement to only show nudity for the pilot. but the show has been coerced into other things as well when they were bribed to put certain aspects within the show as a permanent role. however, back then it was more subtle than it is nowadays. where nowadays it's pretty much forced into shows where no negotiation's take place. and the same thing is going to happen to the new stargate because Amazon bought the rights. so i don't know if i look forward to the shit show they are likely to bring, i'm sure the show will have all the nice special visual effects like it were a movie, but writing direction will be significantly fucked and will damage the show's integrity into the future if they decide to take it too far with political nonsense of today.
I love videos like this, original scrips / scrip to screen / Book to screen changes. Some videos like this have a lot of humour injected into it but i also like the straight forward ones too. Well presented, informative, easy and enjoyable to listen to. Nice work
The only two things I would keep was Apophis opening the gate with the hand device, which would help out selling him as a god-like figure, and Kowalski staying in the show, which would give us at least one other team that's not just a canon fodder to murder in case episode needs some drama.
The primitive guy is probably the guy who fought with rocks and stuff, I thought that extra got a lot of screen time, I bet he was demoted to extra but as a result he ended up with greater screen time.
I think I would have liked having the gate covered by a big thick door, like a metre and a half of solid prestressed concrete, more than the iris we got in the final how. Would have really emphasised the seriousness of the threat on the other side of the gate.
After seeing it in the first one, I was always on the lookout for the next one like it......but it was never to be...no Goa'uld transformers....lol I hope everyone will have a great day & be safe. :)
Background: Apparently most actors from the original movie knew that Emmerich and Devlin had their own plans for the franchise and weren't happy about the TV series, so refused to join the show. John Diehl (Kawalski) was apparently one of the few who agreed to help kick off the show, but wanted to be written out. When he later realized Emmerich and Devlin weren't on board, and pulled out, it was too late to keep Kawalski. I think Wright (or another writer/producer involved?) mentioned in an interview that they were very sad because they would have kept Acovone if they'd had time, because he was so good in the role.
Yeah, killing off his character bothered me. It felt too early. Having him sacfrice himself in a later season finale would’ve been a more fitting exit for him.
I actually didn't like the fact they cut the scene with Kawalski getting taken over by the larva Goa'uld in the Final Cut. I know the reasons but it just didn't make sense especially in the next episode we see him as a Goa'uld sleeper agent. It makes you scratch your head and go "what? how did that happen?" I thought they should have left that scene in place for the Final Cut.
This reminded me of a scene towards the end of s02e09 Secrets. Teal'C is disguised as a horse guard as they approach Heru'ur. When the stargate starts spinning, he refers to it as "the stargate" instead of "chappa'ai" yet Heru'ur doesn't bat an eye at the slip of the tongue
I always thought that was out of place. But I guess the show regularly showed Goa'uld speaking English amongst themselves for our benefit, when they should have been speaking Goa'uld.
@@GateWorldDotNet Not to mention the humans living on dozens of worlds who also spoke English. I always imagined Goa'uld being spoken on most planets in the galaxy and all SG team members having to learn the language
@@DVankeuren I don't live in an English speaking country. Most people here, millions of people, watch movies and tv shows in foreign languages such as English using subtitles with no issues. You're probably just not used to it
i like to think that shol'va can mean both traitor and coward, that would really fit in the way the jaffa see loyalty to their ''gods'' , anyone who wont serve is both a coward and a traitor
It would be interesting to see all the deleted scenes from the pilot, but sadly they are likely never to see the light of day. Some were included in the definitive cut, but I got the impression from the commentary that other stuff was shot but never used (and never included on either version).
17:20 seems more cut on later than original script to original pilot. all episodes could be full lenght some other movie. id4 2 could be stargate if change characters or i mean other way. lets do id4 insted
I prefer Teal'c spur-of-the-moment betrayal in the pilot over the scene we got in episode 1. It never made sense to me that he was convinced O'Niel could save all the prisoners and the people just by seeing his wristwatch. It would have made more sense if they had gotten into a gunfight or something. I also would have liked a scene where Teal'c expressed his desire for freedom for him and his people and O'Niel telling him he can help him get it.
It wasn't just the wristwatch. Teal'c also briefly witnessed the military might of the soldiers on Earth with their assault rifles before going back through the Stargate.
But what purpose would he have served exactly? Everyone on SG1 had a particular reason that fit their mission: Jack was the military head, Sam the science expert on the stargate, Daniel the archeologist/linguist to help deal with the alien cultures and Teal'C the expert on the Gou'ld. There was no reason for Skaara to be on SG1 and I doubt the Air Force would've thought otherwise.
@ken parvu I know all that, I've watched all of SG1. I just don't think it would've made sense to have him be a series regular and be a part of the regular SG1 team.
@ken parvu no need to apologize, I was only commenting on the fact that it wouldn't have made sense to include Skaara as a regular. I think they did the right thing including him how they did. I am sad they killed off Kowalski, however, but they probably didn't want to have a regular cast of more than 5 people total (counting Hammond), it would've just increased the cost of the show.
In the 1996 draft script her name is simply given as "Sha're." I'm assuming that Glassner and Wright wanted to simplify the pronunciation for the sake of the actors.
one of the changes they did in the final cut was a Cargo ship with two gliders, as opposed to the other version where its a modified glider with cargo space and ring transport.
Good morning, sunshine. The guy in the video talks about that, he even shows clip of that original cargo ship with the Gliders next to it. It's towards the end of the video.
I find it funny that the version of COTG on Amazon Prime is the final cut and the version on Netflix is the original. Also, on Netflix, the first three seasons aren't the 16:9 wide screen format. However, they are on Amazon. I started rewatching from season one earlier this year. I started on Amazon and then switched to Netflix when the picture ratio improved.
@ken parvu They didn't "used" the history, they "created" it. I mean they weren't just posing as ancient gods, they were these gods. Sure they were alien parasites, but back in the past, they influenced/created the mythology. At least, that's the lore of the Stargate. Just like Marvel's Asgardians, Thor, Odin and co. They didn't pose as gods, they basically were the gods of old. They visited Earth (Midgard) along with other realms and inspired people to make legends and stories about them. And about the names, well I agree, that Apophis should be better known as Apep/Apop, because that's his Egyptian name, while Apophis is the Greek variation, but in one episode (or more, I think), Daniel tried to accomodate that by saying multiple names for some characters he was explaining about, like with Seth/Setesh/Sutekh, or whatever names he used.
@@Croftice1 Actually we don't know for sure whether the Goa'uld inspired the religions and gods or took on preexisting roles. It might've been different in the cases of different Goa'uld. I think some of that was discussed in that episode where they find a christian village and discover an unas- possessing Goa'uld was posing as the devil. That Goa'uld at least was posing as a preexisting religious character, because Christianity is relatively recent.
In the stargate room, there are walls with slits on either side of the stargate. I always think these walls are strange. Could these be the remains of these giant doors?
I was always a bit disappointed that SG-1 never made any more of the "goa'uld spies within our midst" angle on the show. That was such a missed opportunity. Also, after we got the Tok'ra and it was no longer "all Goa'uld are evil", there would have been a great opportunity to explore Goa'uld society and show us what it means to grow up a Goa'uld by maybe having a spy redeem themselves. They did a little of that with the Ashrak early on, and later with Ki'ana (but it never got enough screen time to feel like a natural progression for her), and Yu proved there were honorable Goa'uld, but they could have done so much here. If they ever reboot Stargate SG-1, I hope they choose to go for more of the plots they never explored, interspersed with familiar plotlines as the over-arching story arc.
A reboot would be detrimental but it would be interesting to see more modern/mature/intimidating Goa'ulds. They where ridiculous in the show, perhaps excluding Ba'al who admits pretty early on that posing for gods is only a tool and a pretty stupid one. I have no real problem whith that given it was a late 90' series and that O'Neill repeatedly pointed out how over the top they acted. But now, we could afford to have more grounded, deep and violent antagonists. Ra, in the movie, was intimidating as hell despite looking like a young boy and I think Klorel managed to almost pull this off. I really hoped that he would be the arch enemy but he never was. Maybe the Goa'uld Apophis could have transfered to skaara body? IDK, for me, Apophis was a maniered angry chihuahua pouting bitch and absolutely not a powerful Godlike figure as the show wanted everyone to believe. Not to mention Osiris with his halloween costume and this one other pale goa'uld guy who got easily destroyed by healed apophis.
Carter is the name of a famous archaeologist who did several digs in Egypt. I always assumed that was how Sam's name was chosen. Could still be the case. If Clayman didn't clear, they may have picked a name they'd read a dozen times in research, or they might have just decided that sounded better.
@@GateWorldDotNet I have been a subscriber for ages friend. I turned on the notification bell this time. (One of the only channels I'll do this for) Super amazing and interesting stargate content. Great editing and narration. Tek ma tek brother.
No, Kurt Russell was (and is) a big movie star and not really gettable for Showtime in 1997. But TPTB reportedly did approach Alexis Cruz (Skaara) about being a main cast member.
Ive always felt they did well with teal'c turning on apophis...i mean when o'neill says we can help u or something along that...and teal'c said "many have said those words...u r the 1st one i have believed"....or i at least know im close to what they said...and the way he looked at times...it made sense to me...hell if sg1 gonna take the goa'uld system lords out they will need allies with info on said system lords...course after they do finally sorta take em out(ba'al was still around....and a bunch of clones)....then they had the replicators...i prefer the asuran replicators from atlantis over the replicators sg1 fought...then they have to deal with ori and wrait when that massive hive ship with a ZPM connected to it comes to earth....and even then there r still thorns in the alliance of the tauri/jaffa/tok'rah/origin people from the origin galaxy/free people of the pegasus galaxy....mainly the lucian alliance and potentially the blue dudes who messed with the destiny in sg universe...and potentially those drone things....berserker drones or something
One of the things from the Sci-fi cut and the original Showtime cut was the nude scenes which was a surprise to me because I had never seen the showtime cut.
I remember watching the pilot live on Showtime. That weekend it aired Showtime was having a free preview weekend. They used to have those back in the day. HBO, Showtime, Cinemax.. they would give free weekends every now and then to get people to sign up. Well when SG-1 premiered they did it the same time as a free preview weekend. So I was able to watch and I remember the nude scene. I was but only 16 at the time. It being one of the very first tv shows to air on a premium cable channel of course there would be nudity but sadly that was the only episode that had any. It was many many years later when it was in sidication I was able to watch anymore of the show. Of course I have since owned all the seasons and watched them all through multiple times. In fact I am currently midway through season 5 rewatching since the new bluray of the series was released.
Stargate is one of my favorite sci fi's, it brings with it the possibility of going someplace else FAR AWAY from here; earth. The crazies can stay I would rather be someplace anyplace else in space living a better life.
The producers of SG-1 made several changes when adapting the feature film -- Sha'uri, Ra's race, the Stargate prop and sound effects, the name of the mountain that the base is in, etc. That would be worth a short video -- but it's not really the focus of this one.
That Apophis scene and the gate never made any sense. The gate was not even powered. Apophis would have to carry a naquadah generator or something similar with him to leave Earth. Need for power to return with stargate was a topic of many episodes since then.
Not that I've heard officially from Wright or Glassner. I suspect that "Sha'uri" was changed because they knew they were going to have multiple actors saying it a lot, and it was just hard (cf. how RDA has always says "Goold"). For "Tyler O'Neill," my guess is that TPTB may not have noticed the detail of the certificate in the bedroom scene.
The change to how Teal'c reneges alone makes the final script the better version. I like a few of the original ideas, but I prefer most of the changes. I'm thankful they made Carter more palatable. Back when I first watched the series as a lad, it didn't bother me when Carter brings her "reproductive organs." But just remembering that line, nowadays... gets me rolling the old photoreceptors. Not to blame the show's writers for today's drivel, but it does make re-watching my favorite show bittersweet, at least for a moment. I dearly hope a new Stargate show or movie isn't made. Not for the time being. The first good Stargate video game could be possible, however. Star Wars' got a lot of great games (none recent), even Star Trek has the Elite Force games which I thought were pretty good. Stargate, on the other hand, has zilch worth mentioning, despite boasting such a great premise for video games of multiple genres.
Love stargate and this was cool I noticed Netflix has it rated TV-MA That little nude scene in the pilot is what did it. 🤷♂️🤦♂️ It's silly to rate the entire show that
Good question! As best we can tell from the show, when building out the mythology of multiple gate addresses (which needed to be corrected for millennia of planetary drift) the writers decided that the Abydos address worked in the original movie because it is relatively close to us in space -- so less affected by eons of drift. That, and they wanted to tell a story that was largely centered in a single galaxy. That way when you send someone outside our galaxy, or bring in the Asgard on a rare basis, it's more of a special event.
The line from Apophis is in there, but there is no shot of a Jaffa attaching something to the Stargate (in either the original or the Final Cut). We see these devices later in the series, which solves the problem of dialing out without a DHD. But it seems that in the pilot TPTB either were not thinking about this problem, or after cutting the hand device sequence decided to just leave it vague and unspecified.
@@peterolsen9131 Oh, is it in the COTG novelization? I don't think I have it. (I wonder if the author may have been provided with an early script draft.)

wow those would totally change everything especially the cartouche hundreds if not thousands of possible worlds to discover at the start would give the series bigger shoes to fill and remove the episode of O'Neill being exposed to the ancients memory tech, which gave him abilities to increase the capabilities of the stargate later on even Hammond being like Colin Powell would have been tougher on the teams and don't take sheep off of anyone or anything almost like Nick Fury even going in missions himself just to blast a gua'ould or Jaffa himself and the jerk off trying to mothball the sg-1 program he would stomped the moron and kick him off base, showing a more tactical and no nonsense approach to every planet survey it would have been a more hardcore variant i think there had been a ref to that universe on when the g-1 team on their ftl ship got alternates from other universes cause of a blackhole, but would have been very very fascinating to have seen that alt reality play out as well, but ti would not have that charm it does in this original version and that alt would have had to need more budget for killer battle scenes cause of fury Hammond i call him, being more militaristic and strict, the kind of guy that would rip out a symbiote and stomp it on the ground.
Egyptian Society lasted for something like five thousand years, many different gods pass though prominence and many different gods share the same sphere of influence over that time. The Pantheon worshipped by the last non foreign pharaohs would be unrecognisable to the first.
It is hard to believe it has been twenty-three years! I was 'Anquietas' on your website around when it first launched. As much as I would love to see Stargate come back, I fear that in the present woke climate, it would be a disaster. I pitched an idea to Wright years ago, titled 'Stargate: Ancients', set in the time of the Ancients alliances in the Milky Way and the establishment of the SG network, but nothing came from this as MGM were dead-set in doing nothing with the property. I think that SG Origins with Catherine might have come out of that concept, but it was clearly not what I had in mind. I no longer write for any television or film production; or frankly for any paid source, because the editorial staff for almost everyone is under the heel of people that hold ideologies that conflict with me own. I want to tell stories, not push propaganda. It's a sad time in life when you have good stories to tell, but your stories do not tick enough boxes to be told.
Glad you're here! Some version of "Stargate: Ancients" has been ubiquitous in fandom as a story idea, I think because it's such a deep and interesting aspect of the franchise's mythology. I loved that opening scene with the old Alterans at the start of "The Ark of Truth," and would love to see a show / movie / miniseries set after they arrived in the Milky Way. That said, I think Brad is always going to be opposed to it. He regularly reiterates that in his view part of what makes Stargate what it is is the present-day setting -- that "it's us," trying to find our way in the universe. Stargate would have to take a major pivot (perhaps akin to Star Wars telling stories outside the Skywalker saga) before we'll get those kinds of stories.
4:46 so there is clayman in air force that do same thing LOL. more secret is would not say it. thank god they can use stargate LOL and ofc raw script names are allways suck lol. clayman what! so there is no carter in air force lol

They definitive edition ruined the pilot. I still have my Dvd's but now I don't have a player. I always loved seeing first editions of scripts. But how can the show be that old?
Just goes to show you how Diversity just for the sole sake of Diversity could have taken away an amazing Character and Actor who played him..... The world is about balance and we used to have it. Need to find it again.
Diversity is about balance, and SG-1 had a properly diverse cast from the start. They sought all ethnicities for several roles, and settled on an African American actor to play Teal'c.
Yep, it's an iconic line. What I mean is that this line of dialogue is not in this original draft of the script. The whole scene of Teal'c's turn was rewritten.
Cutting off Kowalsky's symbiot infection is A MISTAKE. His line "I wake free or not at all" is imoproant, as well as establishing difficulty of removing Goauld using Earth's technology.
Well, Brad wasn't cutting the following episode or the storyline of Kawalsky's infection. Just choosing not to show it as a cliffhanger ending to the pilot.
Meh. I didn’t like that they killed him off. And as stated in the video, we never really see the SG members at risk from these larval symbiotes. He could’ve been a great character in the series, but was wasted.
Because the unstable part or the kawoosh sound is in the center of the gate, not only that but it wasn't made a full "platform" till later in sg1 before u can see a gap where the iris and the gate sit and you'll notice the actor kinda jumping through, you can also see in sketches of offworld gate platforms a bit of a gap where the gate actually sits so it's kinda sandwiched between 2 platforms not 1
i hated the ending, it was like they couldn't make up their minds if they wanted to kill everyone off, or have everyone retire, so they ended it with timestop

@Shawn Tipton
so we really should be viewing the series as another universe, though some of the things are the same as the movie, but slightly different.
i'm fine with that.
@ken parvu
ah, then we have the tech already, we have just yet to build it from the asgard database.
@ken parvu
that was very sad, i mean they could all be resurrected if an new series were to be made, but i don't know if they would ever consider this idea.
we still have the time traveling puddle jumper.
@ken parvu
i'm not saying it has to be an big change, like the example i was thinking was someone discovers how to fix the asgard DNA issues, but they need to go back in time to warn the asgard of what not to do when it comes to cloning themselves, perhaps they don't need to physically go back in time to send this message, but this idea would require them to understand the asgard history before they attempt such a message.
but your right, it could change history so much that it could cause the asgard to not ever meet the tauri and who knows, they may not end up dealing with the replicators or the Ori.
obviously we wouldn't want this, the puddle jumper could only time travel as little as 500 years back in time. so maybe this would be a bad idea, unless they figured out how the time needed to an even lesser time into the past.
i'm just sad they had to die, they searched and searched for an cure to their cloning dilemma and never could figure it out, and then the obvious threat of the Ori being yet another issue along with the replicators.
i dont rember the epsiode but one of the best lines ever in the show was where jack was talking to the reporter and tells him "It's 'O'Neill', with two L's. There's another Colonel O'Neil with only one L, and he has no sense of humor at all."
you forgot to mention O'Neill was holding up 3 fingers while saying this lol.
@@Mukation Yes, I always assumed this, too, and was surprised that this wasn’t canon.
@@Mukation You have a cannon in your head? Wow!
I'm glad about most changes. It makes more sense the way it's made
I'm glad I have the original cut so can still experience both!
You mean seeing Sha'rey naked? 😏
same. and yes shar'rey is naked, that part was unnecessary tbh, but you have to remember the show was on showtime at this time and the network pretty much said they wouldn't allow the show to not have nudity at least in the pilot.
but whatever, the show's story is where it shined. having sex and nudity in shows nowadays isn't necessary but they do it all the time because of pressure from the networks.
sometimes your not in full control in what you are writing.
@@5226-p1e The Goua'uld are parasites, they are completely selfish. It makes sense for Apophis to take advantage of a defenseless Sha're from a character standpoint. It's not about sex to him, it's about power.
@@paulcoy9060
i agree, but i wasn't talking about that aspect of the conversation, i was talking about the fact that the network essentially coerced the show writers into showing nudity, even though they didn't want nudity in the show.
eventually they came down to an arrangement to only show nudity for the pilot.
but the show has been coerced into other things as well when they were bribed to put certain aspects within the show as a permanent role.
however, back then it was more subtle than it is nowadays. where nowadays it's pretty much forced into shows where no negotiation's take place.
and the same thing is going to happen to the new stargate because Amazon bought the rights.
so i don't know if i look forward to the shit show they are likely to bring, i'm sure the show will have all the nice special visual effects like it were a movie, but writing direction will be significantly fucked and will damage the show's integrity into the future if they decide to take it too far with political nonsense of today.
I love videos like this, original scrips / scrip to screen / Book to screen changes. Some videos like this have a lot of humour injected into it but i also like the straight forward ones too. Well presented, informative, easy and enjoyable to listen to. Nice work
Thanks so much!
I'm a big fan of Stargate and I found this very interesting.
Kowalski was done so dirty man, imagine an sg1 were we have Kowalski in it man. He was so under used.
Woah, for a split second the thumbnail had me thinking this video was going somewhere else. Like a pilot for a new Stargate.
There was also where they had to take the word "MacGyver" out of Sam's line on building a dialing program.
Sam Clayman is just weird. Great video 👍
7:18 So Carter would be Sonya Blade? Because who does Carter fight in Emancipation... Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa aka Shang Tsung..Touche..
I think I would have liked having the gate covered by a big thick door, like a metre and a half of solid prestressed concrete, more than the iris we got in the final how. Would have really emphasised the seriousness of the threat on the other side of the gate.
I'm glad they went with the version filmed
Looks like the changes made worked out in the end for the betterment of the show, in my opinion.
I love how they use the Canadian built Argo 8 wheeled unite as the cargo transporter in the show. We Canadian's build them good.
Great vid, most of those changes were definitely for the better imho
Brilliant video miss the show sooo much
Y'all remember how that Goauld shuttle transformed into a Death Glider?
After seeing it in the first one, I was always on the lookout for the next one like it......but it was never to be...no Goa'uld transformers....lol
I hope everyone will have a great day & be safe. :)
Never liked when kawalski left, I liked the banter between characters and also between teams. Fantastic programme, I miss it :(
Background: Apparently most actors from the original movie knew that Emmerich and Devlin had their own plans for the franchise and weren't happy about the TV series, so refused to join the show.
@@uliwitness but it really wasn't too late. They could have used the mirror episodes to bring him back.
I actually didn't like the fact they cut the scene with Kawalski getting taken over by the larva Goa'uld in the Final Cut. I know the reasons but it just didn't make sense especially in the next episode we see him as a Goa'uld sleeper agent. It makes you scratch your head and go "what? how did that happen?"
I thought they should have left that scene in place for the Final Cut.
The new bluray release has that scene back in as well as the nudity.
@@PimpTwzt That's cool.
@@PimpTwzt What nudity
@@limiv5272 but that would be tedious for the viewers. Reading subtitles is not any fin and you miss a lot of what happens on screen.
Well Carter is reminiscent to a major player in the story of the recovery of Tut’s tomb…
9:34 what you mean with Alex Cruz being the only one? Wasnt the actors for Kowalski and Sha're also in the feature film?
Nope -- same characters, but recast for the television series. As was Feretti. And, later in Season 1, Catherine Langford.
@@GateWorldDotNet wow. I never noticed the difference. That is some good recasting. On the other hand, I have only watched the original movie twice
Skaara as a regular would've been very interesting.
Same with Kawalski.
He probably turned it down so he didn't have to wear that wig every day lol
Most of the changes were worth it
is there any reference to Charreia's name change? Her name in the original movie was Sha'uri, and I always thought it sounded nicer.
@@Croftice1 i typed that then saw that in the video.....didn't think the narrator was going to mention it.
Great video ! Thanks for the research
Thanks for the video!!
Good work! Thank you!
"Apep" makes more sense since "Apophis" is the Greek name for him so the Egyptian culture they spawned/influenced wouldn't have used that name.
But "Apep" #1 sounds stupid, and #2 is a lot less well known that "Apophis".
In the stargate room, there are walls with slits on either side of the stargate. I always think these walls are strange. Could these be the remains of these giant doors?
Just started watching this again
I believe the original airing of the Stargate pilot on HBO was more adult themed. as well.
They never did explore the minor Goa'uld, just the System Lords, and maybe a lackey or two.
It would be best if they NEVER reboot SG1. They would totally ruin it.
Freakin awesome...cant wait for the next series.
the original Teal'c first encounter with SG1 was so much better than the silly staff-firefight we got
Great changes.
Carter is the name of a famous archaeologist who did several digs in Egypt. I always assumed that was how Sam's name was chosen. Could still be the case. If Clayman didn't clear, they may have picked a name they'd read a dozen times in research, or they might have just decided that sounded better.
But if they remove Kowalski getting a symbiot inside of him, how does this tie together with what happens in ep 2 then?
It's just not shown. If you move from the Final Cut on to "The Enemy Within" you just find out a bit later that it happened.
Vaitiare Bandera was (and is) so incredibly beautiful. (And Google Images confuses her with Morena Baccarin.)
It would have been nice if they got the uniforms right. Sargent's stripes with Majors brass?
The fact that the Jaffa just dies with the snake still inside and their "gods" give no shit about it still confuse me
How could an actor with no resume turn down a season regular role?
I bet Cruz regretted not agreeing to be a regular

No, Kurt Russell was (and is) a big movie star and not really gettable for Showtime in 1997. But TPTB reportedly did approach Alexis Cruz (Skaara) about being a main cast member.

Thanks for posting. Think I like the original T’lk vs O’Neil better than one they used.
In fact I am currently midway through season 5 rewatching since the new bluray of the series was released.
i can see it being censored on us tv if they had have included that concreate door thing, that it is pure horror movie type thing.
I've met Christopher Judge (Teal'c).
Every TV Pilot has those teething stages where the producers are not yet sure how a series should proceed.
7.40 isn't he the same actor who played shang tsung in mortal kombat movie? if yes wow thats cool
Yep! Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa played the antagonist "Turghan" in this early SG-1 episode.
Luckily they were able to MacGyver together a dialing computer to have a show.
Threshold is the best sg1 episode ever
I never knew there was nudity in the pilot episode until I got the DVD box set.
@Documentary Detective III They we’re able to get away with that because Stargate SG1 originally aired on Showtime.
My question why was it tecl'c that noticed the level of technology why wasn't he one of the guards on earth?
Stargate is one of my favorite sci fi's, it brings with it the possibility of going someplace else FAR AWAY from here; earth. The crazies can stay I would rather be someplace anyplace else in space living a better life.
Why isn't there an explanation for the name Sha'uri being changed to Sha're?
The producers of SG-1 made several changes when adapting the feature film -- Sha'uri, Ra's race, the Stargate prop and sound effects, the name of the mountain that the base is in, etc. That would be worth a short video -- but it's not really the focus of this one.
That Apophis scene and the gate never made any sense.
The gate was not even powered. Apophis would have to carry a naquadah generator or something similar with him to leave Earth.
Need for power to return with stargate was a topic of many episodes since then.
Interesting, but not world-changing.
Is there any explanation why some names were changed from the feature movie to the series?
Love stargate and this was cool
I noticed Netflix has it rated TV-MA
That little nude scene in the pilot is what did it. 🤷♂️🤦♂️ It's silly to rate the entire show that
9 big changes... but if you stick around theres 11 more ...why not just call the video "20 changes"?
I'm curious, why was Abidos changed from being in an outside galaxy to being in the milky way galaxy
I wish Kawalski had been fine.
Dont ever watch the first 2 episodes around your parents lmfao 🤣😂😂

Anybody remember the alien they showed in the original movie? What if that was a furling?
the gate is reopened with a "jaffas key" a device you see them stick to the gate to open it, apophis says" kalek, alonsmay " kalek, open it ...

Set is the god of chaos
I like SG-! just the way it is.
Je ne vois pas l'intérêt de faire un reboot ou un remake nul de cette série qui est déjà vraiment excellent !
4:46 so there is clayman in air force that do same thing LOL. more secret is would not say it. thank god they can use stargate LOL and ofc raw script names are allways suck lol. clayman what! so there is no carter in air force lol
Stargate sg1 is 1 of my top 10 fav shows ever!!! I like atlantis/universe/and the original film...but sg1/ark of truth/continuum r my fav!!! But if im not mistaken....stargate sg1 was originally aired on Showtime...i may be wrong...and if i am please...someone correct me...but i have had it in my head that sg1 started on Showtime for season 1/2/and maybe 3 also...then moved to sci fi channel(as it was known then)....if i am wrong please correct me...
Seasons 1 through 5 were on Showtime. Then SG-1 moved to SCI FI Channel (now Syfy) for Seasons 6-10.
The only thing i remeber from this pilot movie was Apophis basically ripping off the clothes from Daniel Jacksons wife.
They sought all ethnicities for several roles, and settled on an African American actor to play Teal'c.
actually the episode i have teal’c does say “many have said that, you are the first....” i have watched it 100 times haha
Yep, it's an iconic line. What I mean is that this line of dialogue is not in this original draft of the script. The whole scene of Teal'c's turn was rewritten.
@@GateWorldDotNet that’s really cool, i never knew, obviously rewrites happen regularly
Major Kawasaki. Not lieutenant.
Right. He was a Lieutenant in the movie.
Here's an error In stargate and stargate Atlantis the gate would destroy the platform that goes into the ring How can the ring go under the walkway
My compliments on the Michael Shanks impersonation. Complete with lisp. 👍
