Agreed! Music is a treat for the ears. If I have to read a book about how to appreciate a form of music then that kind of defeats the purpose! If I don't "get it", it's not for me. I like jazz but NOT free form jazz. My music needs some sort of structure.

I like some free jazz but not for any academic reasons. I just think it sounds cool and I find the chaos exciting.
