Alway liked his transformation. Episode 24 Unicron Unleashed, when Mirage was introduced was the first episode i ever watched. I've been a fan of the character even since. Though the batteries on mine have not worked in years, & the piece that locks his cannons in broke nearly 10 years ago. His kibble made him stand out from other figures.
It's a shame clear plastic is so bad, because I really like the shoulder-mounted guns being clear IN THEORY. It makes it look like they're floating behind him! Like he can just telekinetically control his weapons, and that rules. If they could make it STURDY in a modern toy? Oh baby I'd be all over that.
There are other Porsche transformers Cliffjumper (technically) Dead End, Minerva, and Nightbeat just name a few I actually forgot a good chunk of the Transformers that are Porches also Jazz was a Porsche 935 Mirage in ROTB is a Porsche 911

There's a second sound, you have to press the trigger again AFTER the cannons are deployed. It's ok if you missed it, I found it like 2 or 3 years ago and I got my Mirage AT LAUNCH. so it took me around 15 years to discover that. And hey, those are some POWERFUL batteries, mine still have power on them after nearly 2 decades.
Pretty good find given how old this guy is, and with all missiles/unbroken at that. I've had this one from when it was released and never thought about the clear plastic bits as I've had no difficulty messing with him from time to time. The one annoyance I have though when articulating the knees is the entire legs pop out very easily. Other than that despite the kibble a really fun toy with a unique transformation. Mirage, Bulkhead, and Landmine were amongst some of Energon's best entries.
That shade of brown is what I call "white that is stained by cigarette smoke in the 80s" but with the yellow and purple I don't hate it. Honestly I think the coatail is like 1 transformation away from actually looking cool

You know, that hole in his torso, that would make a great “play feature” by allowing a sword to be posed stabbed through him, lmao. Would totally have done that if I had him as a kid playing with the toys
I was never able to find this figure while enter John was going and it wasn’t until around early 2008 that I finally found the super link version. While I will admit, this mold definitely has its flaws. I really enjoyed it while I had it. But he’s got a good home now since I gave him to one of my very good friends

I have the dreadwing repaint of this a teal/blue/purple version and it’s a nice yet goofy figure. This design could use a voyager update cause how often do we get boat transformers and the boat is cool looking
I do hope Legacy tackles more Energon characters like Mirage in the future. Personal opinions of the series aside, I do think Energon had some cool TF designs I would love to see modernized (especially the Decepticons like Starscream & Snowcat).
Unicron trilogy figures >>>>. I'm so sad the new ones are too small for the old minicon port placement. honestly when I got Legacy Armada Megs the molded vestigial tiny minicon ports felt more frustrating than not.

It also helps that Mirage wasn’t the exact type of Porsche that Jazz is known for turning into. And Hasbro and Paramount could always change Mirage’s alt mode in a future movie. If they can do it with Bumblebee, Drift, Optimus, Sideswipe, and Hound they can do it with Mirage.
There are early designs of mirage from RotB with a very jazz looking head.. i am still certain he was always meant to be jazz but had to change his head and name late on becuase of licenscing of the 'jazz' name trademark.... all jazz toys are still called 'autobot jazz' rather than just jazz.
I domt understand the point of comparing UT versions with others, they're very obviously just name dumps that oly act as weird points on a fairly consistent timeline of similar designs
There are some UT designs that you can compare to previous designs (mainly when it comes to guys like Optimus, Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave), but yeah UT did introduce a lot of new characters. And some of those new characters simply had the names of previous Transformers characters slapped onto them without being made with those previous characters in mind.
At least this Mirage has a bit of blue on him, unlike another one that's an Italian Red Ferrari that got renamed into Dino for the final film, but not everything else at the time.
I mean he could have turned into a boat for the museum heist only. But Mirage would have to be a car for every other place he travelled around at in ROTB. You can’t get far on land as only being a boat. He’d still have to be a land vehicle for land missions.

The more apt description would be that an F1 car wouldn’t be a very inconspicuous disguise for a Transformer that’s trying to remain off the radar (especially if said F1 is being used to move around regular streets). An F1 car can work for Mirage if the Autobots become public figures and allies of Earth’s governments; where the Autobots would no longer need to avoid human detection. But when trying to actively hide from humans, an F1 clearly stands out like a sore thumb.
Here's the thing. That mirage isn't meant to be mirage it was just a nameslap. It's a new character, and I prefer calling him shockfleet. It's like armada sideswipe. It's not sideswipe, it's nightbeat. Or biltzwing from bb. It's not the triple changer, it's just a random seeker. Also love the vid!
