Hi David! Thank you for posting this video. Wow, this concert was almost 10 years ago. I was a baby singing this aria, lol!! Hope you are well. -Angel xx
When I studied to become an opera director 25 years ago I was a baby, too, and it was my dream to find such great talent to work with🧡My life has gone a different way, though, and now I am contented with all I discover on UA-cam in my little spare time. But your singing has blown me (far) away. Wow, wow, wow, I honestly have never heard a soprano with such amazing richness, absolutely spectacular!
Thank you very much to make the famous laugh between: "Gioir, gioir" and "Sempre libera d'eggio". What beautiful messa di voce and what beautiful pianissimi. Applause 👏👏👏👏
I know that black ppl can be anywhere and do anything; trust me, I don’t doubt that one second. But, this is my first time seeing a black opera singer, and she is gorgeous. If she was on the radio, I would have never thought that she is black, cos I wouldn’t expect it. Why isn’t she news? Wow! I’m so proud of her. I wish her the best. I hope this inspires a lot of black ppl in the world and every race in general. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
There have been a plethora of notable and highly accomplished African American opera singers singing in opera houses all over the world since the early 1960'S. Just to name a few, Leontyne Price, Grace Bumbry, Martina Arroyo, Jessye Norman, and the goes list on. Angel Blue represents a new era of amazing and young African American opera singers who have benefitted from the trailblazing of the aforementioned artists.
Media is focused so much on popular and hip hop, rap, rhythm and blues, etc., because that is what sells. Not necessarily a bad thing, it is what it is.
Marian Anderson was an opera singer from Philadelphia, PA during times of intense racism, but with talent and perseverance she became the first African American to perform as a member of the New York Metropolitan Opera. She was also the first African American to perform at the White House, invited by Eleanor Roosevelt. Conductor Arturo Toscanini said of her that she had “a voice one hears once in a hundred years.”
I just came across this performance and it is stunning! Such vocal freedom and precision. Thank you for sharing. It's great to see my sistas captivating the opera world.
The high E over high C that she sang at the end is not in the score but it is traditional to do it IF the soprano can manage it. Most of the Violetta's out there do not do it, even big singers at big opera houses. Coming, as it does, after a long and difficult voice-tiring aria, it is a long held and very naked note that has to be perfect. It is scary for singers. Of the few that do it even fewer do it right. It often sounds thin or covered or the swoop up to it with a kind of Wooaaah. It should be strong effortless, bright and no swoop but a clean hit right on the note. It has been a while since I have heard it done by anyone do it even badly. Being a relatively new opera singer and she had handled the low notes in the beginning of the aria so well, I was not expecting it, But there it was - beautiful and full, not a scream or strained no Wooaaah but a full bodied beautiful bright and thrilling note right on the money. You got the idea that she had a few more notes higher than that which she easily could have sung. Her voice was not fully modulated during the aria, a few notes were a bit too loud or not quite as resonate as they could be. She is also clearly nervous and she tended to slide over the coloratura notes instead of hitting each one. Minor stuff, except for the coloratura, but it is clear that she had the voice to do it but needed to have a bit more experience controlling and coloring her voice, and enough muscular control to do the coloratura. I saw a clip of her doing Sempre Livre from 2019 and the coloratura was a lot better, Then today (11/27/21) I saw the replay of the MET live broadcast from 11/24/21 of "The Fire Shut Up in My Bones" and she now has it. Beautifully modulated even to floating a beautiful high pianissimo. Her stage presence is enormous confident and very self possessed. You can't take your eyes off her when she is on stage. She stole the show.

first heard her in the last act of boheme yesterday; wonderful voice! wonderful feeling. she's great here too, but i'm not a big fan of the 'acting' - walking back and forth, et.al. all these emotions are best expressed by the voice - and the heart and soul. just saying! but again, gorgeous voice; in boheme reminiscent of the 'golden age.'
Callas is buried in France. Sutherland is buried in Switzerland. Scotto is buried in Italy. Caballe is buried in Spain. Gruberova is buried in Austria. Zeani died in Florida. Cotrubas and Devia are still alive but no longer singing.
Bellissima voce ma non ha capito come si canta questo pezzo... Dove si sente già il dramma di quello che avverrà... Con le mani sui fianchi e balletto sembrava Carmen!!!! 🙈
Gorgeous and powerful voice... a real shame that the acting is so shallow. I understand why she decided to pull back from performing La Traviata, after so-called Netrebko's "blackface" issue. She is far behind Netrebko's performance and doesn't have the emotional depth to reach that kind of level.

My favourite soprano nowadays. Beautiful, powerful, expressive, excellent!

Jessye Norman is huge in the opera world. She was the premier diva.

She just demonstrate she does not understand much about theater not going to sing to Verona for a reason that is ridículos and sign of ignorance
Crazy fabulous!

Stunning . Just saw Angel in Tosca in LA. Magnificent. Brava!
This is such a brilliant performance
This is a revelation! precision, phrasing, intelligence, expressivenes without mannerisms. OMG, it gives hope
Splendid and amazing Violetta! This is the performance every coloratura dreams of, and she nailed it.
The way she sang it was so effortlessly beautiful
Angel Blue and Lisette Oropesa are doing a fantastic job with this aria nowadays!
superbe voix de soprano

It is a high E flat actually.
What a performance. What a performer👏👏👏
The real, royal thing. Her placement is seemingly infallible. Great Verdi style.

Chanteuse intense et voix luxueuse.
Vocalises encore approximatives et fins de phrases parfois escamotées.
Mais quelle énergie!
Such a beautiful voice. You sound like a young Mirella Freni.
La Freni una voce così se la sognava!
Who is the tenor? He is also very good.

Assez grinçant et engorgé.

Purtroppo cambia le battute del finale. Sono troppo difficili per lei. Peccato.
No thanks,
Maybe a little more delicate, Maybe a little less emphasis.
A silly thing to say.

Shame on you.
Well go watch the version you like instead of making unprofessional comments. What does whoopy have to with the critique? It’s because she’s black?
What an overrated, Affirmative Action semi-star. Qualified to sing: "would you like ketchup with the fries, Sir", at best.
wow you people really need help
What about her singing led you to this conclusion?
5th rate at best
