    I started my ewaste and gold bearing items collecting and hoarding in 2017, I started watching Ewaste Ben first then about a year later I started to also watch Sreetips. I've watched a many others as well & been learning alot.
    Ewaste Ben encouraged me to wait until I was educated enough to start refining, so I do it right and be safe.
    I was referred to you by someone in the comment section of Sreetips and I'm really glad I started to watch you. I have watched at least a few videos from several dozen different ewaste refiners, but you are by far the best I've seen hands down!!
    Really Sweet Weigh in for 2017!!
    Have a GREAT Day My Friend!!!

      Geez, yep, I have a similar problem to a lesser degree with crap filling up my workshop. And to make things worse, the weather has been great here for the last month, so I much prefer to be out doing things than pulling apart computers in the workshop!

    Good haul, nice results. I appreciate your videos. If its not outside your scope do you plan on doing any MLCC refining for Pt/Pd? Once again- great videos.

      S Dunca Thanks for the great comment, Ive always been a gold-bug, so have never seriously looked at MLCCs, I have a large container of them saved up, so should probably investigate it at some point.

    The most important thing to remember is to heat your mold as hot as you can to get the best result

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому +1

      Hi Jesse, yep, definitely needed a bit more heat, that graphite crucible definitely sucks the heat out much faster than my regular melting crucibles! Think it may be time for a oxy-acetylene kit!

      Thank you very much, I think I will slow down a bit in 2018, do less gold volume and more refines of unknown interesting materials. All the best and hope you have a productive, happy and healthy 2018

    Happy New Year May next year bring 10 x more gold Did you refined any silver or palladium?.

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому

      Thanks for the best wishes! I end every solution by cementing any left-over PMs on Copper, the black powder then goes into a 'retirement' bottle. So I've never targeted Pt or Pd particularly. All the best for 2018!

    What did it cost you to get that amount of gold? An impressive payout but if you had to buy your waste then all of the chemicals and pay for haz waste disposal it will cut into your profit. Since it is a hobby the time doesn’t really count. Nice work and thank you for sharing your videos. Did you recover anything else? Silver, palladium, copper, iron?

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому +1

      Great question Paul, certainly not 100% profit! I estimate about a third of the value would cover the costs, not counting time and lab-ware. Still a solid profit, but since I don't sell it, the value of it is only in my head. Might sell it off one day and take the wife on a well deserved trip for putting up with all my weekends in the shed! I basically sell off boards as low grade E-waste after harvesting the Gold bearing parts, so there is certainly some cash that also came from that. Things like Copper and Aluminium I gather up in big containers and also sell off once or twice a year. I think the Cu and Al would pay for the chemicals and glassware.
      Drastically different maths if you take time into account, if I take time into account then I would probably struggle to make minimum wage!

    Congratulations nice work. those pieces will fit that crucuble if enough melting heat. 3 oz per year is a good goal for a hobbie. keep that good work and waiting for more of your experiments in yield of ic chips tipes. i`m following your steps to do the same thenks for the data. happy new recovering year!!!

    How much urea is needed to denox 200ml of gold chloride and how long it takes. How much SMB is needed to precipitate.

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому

      Hi there, the amount of urea depends on the amount of free Nitric acid present, the best way is to use an indicator Gold button to show you when all the Nitric acid has been converted. I have a earlier video that shows how to do this. I usually use about 2g of SMB for every expected gram of Gold.

  • @nickstoyles75
    @nickstoyles75 6 років тому +2

    You weren't kidding when you said you were going to need the big scales! I did have to wait a few days before commenting as I was waiting to finish off my latest run of ic chips from 200 ddr2 ram sticks. I can't remember the start weight of them but I recovered 1.38 grams, this brought my total for the year to 18.06 grams. I haven't yet had time to do a 2nd or 3rd refine, but for my 1st year of gold recovery I'm more than pleased with the total amount I've recovered.

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому +1

      Nick Stoyles Hey mate, happy new years. 18g for the short time you have been at it is awesome. Every gram adds up in the end!

    • @nickstoyles75
      @nickstoyles75 6 років тому +1

      Happy New year to you too my good man! Without your help on processing ic chips it probably would have been more like 10 grams. Thanks to you posting videos and answering god knows how many of my questions, that is what made the 18 grams possible. I've got my hands on some bga chips which I'm going to process for a local laptop repairman, before I start processing them I may need some more advice from you as I don't want to make any mistakes with that batch.

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому

      For sure Nick, always happy to help where I can. BGAs are fantastic to process, the yield relative to difficulty is very good with them. I assume you are talking about the gold-corner type BGAs ? Like North Bridge chips ? If so, you can expect around 10g per kg of the black tops with bases peeled off.

    • @nickstoyles75
      @nickstoyles75 6 років тому

      Yes that's the type of chip I'm referring to. I'm not sure of the total weight yet as I haven't finished pulling them off the motherboards. I just wanted to check on how I process both parts. The black top parts I believe I process in the same manner as I've been doing for the ic chips off my ram sticks, correct? The green bottoms I believe I process them in ap with an air bubbler, the same as I would for the gold fingers off ram sticks, yes?

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому +1

      The black tops you process as normal for ICs, but you don't have to do any HCl leach because they have no Tin / Iron inside them. So just straight to HNO3 after washing / blue bowl, then wash out the Copper Nitrate and dissolve with AR. I have never bothered to process the bottoms, they only have ENIG plating, so you would be creating a lot of waste acid for a very very small amount of Gold. I basically just throw away the bottom parts.

    Really nice work. Maybe you could melt all three pieces from this year together and stamp the year 2017 on it and then compare to 2018.

    • @successfulengineer
      @successfulengineer  6 років тому +3

      Awesome idea Scott, although I have 2 kids, so maybe cut it in half and do a 2017 for each of them for when I kick the bucket. I think Ill buy a Oxy-Acetylene kit first, the MAPP gas was starting to struggle with that 50g bar!

      @@successfulengineer acetylene is a dirty, dirty gas... but hotter for cheaper than propane, i suppose. i'm neurotically biased- i'm a glassblower; we can't use acetylene as it soots and fouls the glass.
