@@alcoyne3333333333333 can imagine Borthwick is a bit of control freak and wouldn't let felix have the total freedom to do his thing or he's spoke up and Steve doesn't want to be undermined
As an Irish fan. I think the English public are completely over reacting & letting English media stir their feelings & perspective. When Andy became head coach of Ireland in 2019 he had an awful run. It wasn't until the end of 2021/ start of 2022 that the Irish system clicked & everyone started praising him & the Irish team. England could have won last night. You guys had Ireland on the back foot for the 1st 30 minutes & the only reason we won was because our defense held you guys up after the 1st try, we made you guys play in your own half for majority of the game & any time you guys got field position in our half we kicked it back & held you guys there. England look a whole lot better than they did this time last year & Borthwick has done a good job so far imo with this being his 1st international job. If you guys are just always gonna throw your toys out the pram when ye lose & let the English media influence your train of thought then ye aren't fans of yer own country. Support them when they lose & congratulate them when they win. It's embarrassing that this is how you treat your own team.
Rewatched the match this morning. There was a lot of positives for you guys. Opening 10 was excellent. You were fast and lively in attack. Didn't spot one ruck where you didnt have two players working hard to resource to ensure clean ball. Aeriel game was very good, winning a lot of the 50/50s. Defensively sound, just swarming us at the breakdown and up very quickly in the line. Poor kick from Sam opened the gate for Smith to attack through Lawrence, and we just didnt ever recover a defensive shape. 0-7. I think as the game went on, this tactic proved to be draining. High ball in play time early on and Irelands fitness showed. Something similar happened when we played France in 2023. They kept the ball in play a lot and in the end, they faded a bit. This England game plan could work, but you need to score more to build a lead, and up the fitness levels to maintain the pace. After the opening blitz, Ireland grew in to it and England didnt score (save for a penalty) until 75th minute when the game was done and Ireland had the BP. If you can find a way to balance that blitzing start with a sustainable game plan, you could be on to a winner. Will be interesting to see how they arapt for France. Borthwick is renowned for picking a team to play a team, so i expect a bit more bulk in the pack next week and a plan for Dupont. However, is the fact that he changes up the plan/squad depending on the opponent the problem? This England team needs its own identity
Tim you're so good at this. Huge to have in-game replays as it shows without doubt the evidence. Great addition to the channel and as always, you've nailed it 👏
As an Irish fan I was saying before the game, Ireland could have done with a couple of games under their belt before facing England now I’m very glad its done because I think England will be the team that improves the most in this competition….England were very good.
These games ebb and flow and England could have come out on top, such are the vagaries of Rugby. The most important thing is to learn what's there to be learnt. That's straight out of the Andy Farrell philosophy.
i reckon there's an exceptionalism running through a few of the England rugger folk in the media. I have little time for Martin Johnson...and don't get me started about Matt Dawson (who is so poor, the BBC have stopped allowing comments about his articles). Tim is miles ahead of both as an honest and fair-minded observer.
From a irish supporter i think England have improved. I think once they have a full 80 minutes they will be dam good. England had us on the back foot for a good bit.
@@paddyanglais91who should replace Borthwick? Who could England realistically get? Baring in mind Erasmus will never leave SA, and Nienaber is likely being lined up to replace Farrell after 2027 RWC.
🏴 had good😅 coaches in Lancaster & Farrell & the media & Eng. supporters rounded on them viciously. They both went on to have great careers & success elsewhere. Instead 🏴 opted for EJ. You know how well that went! 🏴 are improving - give the coach more time.
Agreed Tim. Seeing everyone bash Borthwick for every loss is just getting boring now. He's done a good job getting England to play some interesting rugby with aggressive defence and mixed attack, it's a huge contrast from the absolute turgid mess we had to watch at the end of the Eddie Jones era. I see loads of people talk about England's win rate.... Well obviously it looks bad, the vast majority of games over the past year have been against teams that are ranked above us! I thought the England gameplan looked solid. First half was great, but we clearly got on the wrong side of the referee again. That lineout penalty against Itoje was ridiculous, yet the head contact on Curry is totally fine.. On a different day maybe some of those decisions would go the other way, but England have had a knack for being on the wrong side of the ref for years.
As a South African watching the came, that I thoroughly enjoyed, I saw a lot of passion and attitude from England. Unfortunately it can only take you so far, lasted only the first half. After that skill and intelligence take over, England lacks that. That’s where the couch comes in Tim.
Really fair analysis Tim. Also great news if the 6N have relaxed on using match footage! Or maybe I'm lucky to see it before it gets taken down. Fingers crossed the former.
Brilliant videos that give some much needed perspective. I'm an England fan, gutted by the result but Ireland showed how to squeeze teams. Well done Ireland
People criticising tactical kicking are demonstrating low rugby IQ I’m afraid. The bigger issue for England is the standard of the Prem in contrast to the URC and the Top 14 and the standard the players are required to reach to be competitive in their respective competitions. Wales’s biggest undoing was their lack of tactical kicking and manipulation of the opposition and look for territory gain.
Is it possible some of the criticism comes from a lack of respect for Ireland despite their status as one of the top teams in the world, the perception in England, by some people, is still that England should always beat Ireland because they are a 'bigger' nation?
They should!!!! They're the richest union, have the most players, they should be winning everything. We're ten times smaller in population and rugby is a minority sport after GAA and soccer, it makes no sense that we can beat them unless you've seen the rfu in England first hand.....its a shit show. Irfu make them look like del boy and Rodney outfit with some Frank Spencer thrown in....
Superb video, Tim, thank you. In the search for more streetwise players, do you think those playing in the Top 14 would have something more to offer in such marginal moments? (I appreciate that they are unavailable due to RFU policy).
great break down, i think people also need to go to the pub and watch it, you get so many different perspectives from the opposing fans (Ireland in this case)
England are decent outfit, goes to show you how far irish rugby has come on when pretty much the whole nation is disappointed with a 5 point victory and a 4 try bonus point.
Love this style of video!! A bit more analytical with visual examples, super super stuff Tim!! Would love to see more. (I know it’s not always possible with copyright stuff on some game footage)
Excellent commentary and i too really like the format - thanks very much. You very clearly expose the weaker players in England's line up. A great perspective.
Totally agree Tim, I'll be passing this breakdown to my friend who I was arguing with last night about England's tactics 😄 excellent analysis as always, I still believe England are on the right track
Great video. Spot on. The string of defeats hurts but we are still not an 80 minute team at the moment. When the stamina starts to go, the skills / execution / discipline goes and a team with the class of Ireland punishes every little error. If we can find a way to play an 80 minute game without completely destroying our loose forwards (honestly, I wonder how much good the Curry lads will be next week after their shift yesterday) then I can see us halving our standing in the world rankings.
People need to put some respect on the curry brothers names! I read sooo many negative comments about them being picked , 2 of our best players on the day !!
I agree with you Tim... Borthwick isn't the biggest issue. But you gloss over the gulf in rugby talent. English clubs got (mostly) pumped by the big French and Irish club (the only one) in the champions cup. Yes the commentators maybe blaming the wrong issues, but you cannot defend an international side who fall to pieces every second half.
I’m glad you put this video out Tim. I’ve watched a lot of content that has come down really hard on England/borthwick. I think the post match analysis from Rugby Union Daily was the worse.
As a neutral i thought England are looking better... dont think Ben Curry shoulf be there.. Ireland deserved the win but England capable of knocking over top 4 teams inbtge world
Superb summary Tim and I support everything you have said. Unfortunately, Steve keeps losing and the way of the world - everyone expects "stuff/success" instantly - means that the inaccuracy of his charges will cost him his job. I do sincerely think that the ref made some poor calls. The worst being the failure to look at that Tom Curry head contact. Also, I have no idea how anyone saw a push by Itoje in the lineout. I have watched it back loads of times and have no idea how they saw a push. The decision over the Itoje "forward pass" was a joke as the ref was at least 5 metres behind the play at that moment and was in no position to see a forward pass from that angle so one can only conclude that Bealham is a blood relative!!
Being a Saffa, I recognize the "box kick, box kick, box kick..." frustration that we went through in trying to get our team back together in the early Rassie days. I wanted him to drop Faf de Klerk for the constant kicking. At the time though, we had a monster scrum and an infallible line out. And it worked... But, the coaching team eventually started to loosen the reins and we have the Springbok juggernaut of 2024.
I try and remind people of this whenever they complain about England. Ireland, similarly, we're very messy for a long time once Farrel came in. Slightly worrying thing for England is we probably lack the X factor plays all over the pitch that Ireland and SA have. Still excited for the future
Box kick, box kick, world cup champs, world cup champs... if box kicks win you consecutive world cups... maybe its not the worst strategy??? Also a SAFFA, and I have no problem with a kicking game if it wins tournaments.
Tim I think is missing out an important aspect here - they scored one try in the first half. Despite making multiple line breaks and getting front foot ball. Sure box kicking from your own half is important, but England remain committed to attacking kicks, which by definition introduce more variables and therefore more risk. At the same time, England's defence and set piece isn't South Africa's. They leak penalties and make mistakes. Therefore giving the ball away isn't the same risk-reward as the SA team pre 2023 world cup. Plus law changes etc. England kick attacking possession away too frequently when they're winning gainline. Giving away points and momentum.
If this was a one off I'd definitely agree it's a player issue not a coach issue but if you changed the colour of the jerseys this could have been any one of a growing list of games where the same or similar things happen. If it's the players making the same mistakes then the coach has to change his plan the players clearly aren't capable of doing what he wants over 80 minutes and trying to do it over and over again and hoping it changes is crazy, sure sometimes every bounce will go England's way and the mistakes won't be punished like against ireland last year but that isn't sustainable
As an irish fan i would not be negative about england. I think they are getting there. Also their under 20s are phenomenal so the next generation are coming too.
Having played rugby union from 11-41, every season and following the game to this day, all I can say Tim that most, not all of the comments I see are clearly being made by ignorant “football type supporter” cretins! The absolutely disgusting attacks made on Faz when he was captain were utterly vile and made by the same ignorant cowards that have infected our sport! W⚓️’s! A very good summary of the game in your video IMO.
I don't think Itoje knocked on when tackling belham but it's too difficult to say that the decision directly prevented a try. I think the referee shouts advantage before slendergast throws the pass and its impossible to say if he would have thrown that pass had Ireland not had knock on advantage.
Thanks, Tim. Coaches always face scrutiny when results don’t go their way. However, England is developing-arguably faster than any other top-tier team right now. Their defence and discipline will continue to improve.
Great analysis and I totally agree. Those complaining about the constant box kicking didn't seem to recognise that for one it worked in the first half and secondly Ireland were doing this as well, mainly because by doing it your opponent is thinking you're going to do it and maybe gain you a little more space and more opportunity to break the line when you don't (due to them having to cover the ball over the top). I also wonder if the England management team thought that, having watched the recent games Ireland have played that competing for the ball in the air was more likely to give them a platform to be able to keep the ball in hand and threaten the try line. I think you are spot on any the replacements which is why I'll say it again, until England can pick the players playing at the top level in France this week continue because we just don't have the strength in depth without them. I know why it's done but if English clubs can't compete with the French ones to keep their best players then we have great players from the French league and up and coming, as well as some proven, experienced ones that stay, and it's win win. I don't see how you fix this lack of depth in the short or long term. It needs to be looked at.
As an irishman, happy with the win,but england got a terrible call in 2nd half, forward pass when they looked like they were going to score a try. I didn't see any forward pass. Ireland got a penalty from the scrum and worked their way quickly, down to english line, kept pressure on,and a few minutes later aki scores. That was a huge turnover. Having said that, english prem teams seem to blow up as a unit, on the hour mark,in euro cup games. Same happened to england yesterday. England will take scalps, make no mistake, and saved a bonus point, which could prove vital yet.
I suppose one thing you could argue is that a lot of the England players were chosen from teams that aren't used to winning regularly in the domestic competition or Europe. Quite a large number from Sarries, Quins, Sale, and Saints, none of whom are blowing up the leagues. Relatively few from Bath and Bristol. That said, I'm not actually suggesting Borthwick dumps his squad based on one part season's results, but I wonder if the players are just a little bit off the boil.
I think the bigger issue there, to build on your point, is the Premiership is not preparing people for international rugby generally. The standard has got much poorer. Entertaining and competitive, but poorer.
Ireland were well practiced waiting in the Bread Basket for every single Box Kick - that's biggest heaviest England team I've ever seen but Ireland used the Short Pass so well and Refuse to be drawn in to England powerplay - good composure from Ireland slow swarm defence then they just waited for the Gaps to appear - Smarts to Ireland
As an Ireland fan. Thought England were brilliant in the fire half. Great kicking and attack. The second half was a combo of 11 having a nightmare. And what looks like England's fitness lagging . Ireland kicked just as much. And poorly in first half. Absolutely brilliant game to.
Absolutely Tim, England played well overall and their game plan is good. Markus Smith had 10 minutes to rest, and on the last Ireland try, he is running ever so slowly, to end up with a desperate tackle. Jack Willis should be wearing the white jersey. Yes, there is hope, but if the bench is weak, no chance of winning a tournament.
Great video! I am critical when it’s warranted of England but yesterday we played well but didn’t have the run of the green/finishing that Ireland did. Not sure what fans expect when we are playing second best team in the world at a time when rugby has never been so competitive at the top.
In the first half, the box kicking worked. The fundamental problem, to my mind, is the unwillingness and/or inability to pivot from the prescribed game plan on the field... which usually manifests itself in the second half. This team feels overcoached and overcautious. The box kicking did not work in the second half, and the players did not take on the responsibility to abandon the game plan. This is a theme. We still struggle with discipline, conditioning, and latter-stage game management, but, generally speaking, we have improved. The enormous elephant in the room is, bar Marcus, they all feel terrified to take responsibility, adapt to the game, and play what's in front of them. If this isn't addressed by both the coaches and the players, this team's ceiling is limited.
England had no territory second half to enact a game plan. Penalties and errors killed them. Agree though ok limitation on pure talent. Ireland have more, much better players.
No it's not. He's not there to rewatch every possible small infringement - it would destroy the game. He's there for important foul play and to rule on decisions when the on field ref asks for help
@@IverKnackerovbut some were clear as day which change games dramatically but it can be picked up by tmo as quickly as a foot in touch which wouldn’t slow the game at all
Thank you for this video, it provides much needed video evidence for the points I was trying to make for the "Borthwick out" crowd. I find a lot of it is from football mentality of if you're losing games you change the manager and a lot of people making that complaint aren't at all familiar with the world rankings. Yes, England have only won 3 of the last 10 they've played, but 7 of those have been against sides who are in the top 4 of the world rankings and the aggregate score across those top 4 matches is 150-175. England are getting beaten by the 4 best teams in the world by 3.5pts on average. If you also remember that England lost vs Australia because they dropped a restart for the sake of a half dozen penalties/errors Borthwick would be being hailed as the greatest England coach of all time.
Nah I think your standards have evaporated. We aren’t improving, we cannot beat good teams (we used to), and he can’t keep assistant coaches around. It’s rotten
When you take high risk attacking kicks, with a defence that leaks penalties, on average you lose games. England are failing to beat the big teams, despite showing they can win gainline. And they fail to impress against the small teams. This is because Marcus Smith, Slade and the Borthwick game plan is stuck in 2016-2019 rugby. If attacking kick gameplan was working, people wouldn't be complaining - Eddie would still be here. Tim's video gives examples of where keeping the ball in hand (39min) results in three points, 30% of what England achieved on scoreboard in first 60 minutes. They kicked possession away too often.
Is it a case of overcoaching into a specific game plan?? Or rather not having the knowledge to adjust that game plan to be aware that the opponent will change things up second half and adjusting accordingly. TCUP springs to mind.
Hi Tim, as an Englishman I definitely had similar feelings (despite being very frustrated with the similar themes on display). Do you think fitness and conditioning has to be a top priority for this team now? Seemed so energetic in the first 20 and largely good decision making but seemed as though both bodies and minds were exhausted trying to keep up against this top Irish opposition in that second half… a bit more time and a bit of fitness and this English team could be even more competitive
Great analysis and comments. I must admit that as an England supporter I felt deflated with our effort at first. It’s frustrating to see us be so competitive and both miss attacking opportunities and make occasional big defensive errors. But I would say that Borthwick made a superb high risk selection, which I think should have been changed immediately after half-time to bring on the bench. When Curry scored (amazing match!) he looked out on his knees. Can’t wait to see Willis, C-South etc be given more game time in future matches. Sadly Steward is still getting done for pace in defence and looks ponderous in attack.
Great video as always @eggchasers. The referee decisions in the first half were ultimately probably correct so why even discuss them. Agree on the Itoje lineout penalty; if anything he was only guilty of closing the gap. The Doris tackle should have reviewed. Still a fun match to watch. Sheehan and Conan off the bench made all the difference. All stats were even.
Funny how O'Keefe warns England for repeated penalties then pings them on the next one but then later he warns both teams for repeated fighting and says the next time it happens it's Ireland and he does nothing. Inconsistency at its finest.
I think you’ve summed up how I feel about this game, England set themselves but didn’t quite execute. Ireland stopping England playing with some soft ref calls (part of the game, you win some and lose some) in that second half. I believe England can go on to win the rest of their games this tournament if they stick with the team and strategy. It will come good. Defense was pounded first half and they frustrated Ireland who wanted to dominate first half and couldn’t.
I don't mind box kicking as long as it is contestable. It's part of the game, and with tall outside backs it makes sense, especially considering that there isn't much change to be had in a heavily defended midfield.
100% agree that the lineout 'push' by Maro was a super soft penalty, but you're looking with your rose tinted shades on if you don't think Slade's blatant push in the back, off the ball, wasn't a clear cut penalty
We’ve been ‘hoping for the future’ for too long now though and we’re not close to being one of the best teams. Yes there were good points but we fell off so badly in the second half that you can’t help being angry. The criticism for Borthwick is because of a defensive selection where instead he could start Willis, Earl and CCS in the back row, have some dynamic runners and try and score tries not have your game plan centred around getting turnovers and kicking (which backfired on the line out front as well and their fitness levels weren’t good enough to execute the game plan).
Totally agree. I’ve been watching England for more than forty years and this is really, really bad. We’re just average or slightly better than average and it’s just not good enough.
I'm honestly at the point of just assuming the people who repeat the box kicking narrative, "Borewick", this player should start as though one player will change everything, are either very very casual fans warped by social media convos or they're fair weather england fans who actually revel in the failure because it gives them other people online to communally be annoyed, angry, moany and generally unproductive with. Same goes for some of the other rugby YT channels who seemingly rage bait knowing they'll get high engagement.
Players off the England bench is a general signal for our game to go down. Why do we continue to do it? It was a theme generally started by Eddie Jones, that doesn’t mean it always has to be employed as a tactic, if it continues to fail.
It was Borthwick's choice to swap both 9 and 10 at the same time which disrupted England's pattern, it was also his choice to move Marcus Smith to 15 where he is not comfortable and it showed. I don't understand decisions like this if he's good enough to stay on the pitch then leave him in place. We should have a utility back on the bench.
England laid out their strategy well in advance and for some reason we didn’t believe them?!?!?! Being honest I loved their tactics well done loved even better that we countered it and fought back. You deserved the bonus point and it may come back to haunt us
I get that we are too critical. For me it’s not the kicking to get into the red zone that annoys me. Steward and freeman are great under the highball and keeping Ireland in that area of the pitch is great. However it’s the kicks in the red zone. Especially when you are not on. The clip you showed at 7.22 into the vid showed how good England can be when you build phases but we didn’t do it enough. Would like to see some more phase play in irelands third. But overall positive building block for England and great improvement in the defensive system in my opinion.
Absolutely agree you cannot blame the coach for individual errors but at the end of the day it is/will be the coach who pays the price. I was disappointed at full time but there is a game next week and a chance to correct mistakes and get a win. We did fade in the 2nd half, to put it mildly and were made to pay which brings me to say that we do not seem able to see games out at the moment.
As a South African English people are so negative Steve is a top coach stop being so negative England have a young team they are learning theres so much potential you guys are so impatient how about support the team and stop criticising the boys that could help your team more and stop having negative narratives every week you lose it's embarrassing honestly.
I think if you look back 12 months England beat Ireland with some great defence and attack, that in itself will tell you how much they’ve been going backwards. And yes it’s the Coach .
Was at the game - England are strong athletes great in Defence - relied on individual brilliance (smith mainly ) in attack rather than collective brilliance
Feels like were slowly improving single aspects of the game, but each time we do, we uncover another issue. Personally I'd see this cycle through now. The top 4 teams are far ahead of the rest, so there isn’t a realistic chance of anyone taking England beyond those teams, with the current crop of players.
I love this video, and it is so needed, so please do more for each game! However, I feel that by the end of 10 minutes, you've already pointed out 5 decisions that were 'soft', 'marginal', or 'could go either way' against England. I didn't feel it watching the game live but watching this video I definitely agree that England got a rough deal with the referees in this game. Ireland were the better team going into the game and were the better team in the game so deserved the win totally but it's hard to disagree that the denial of 2 definite tries and a further try opportunity simply down to referee decisions, and not bad discipline from England, as so many people are saying, didn't or wouldn't have effected the result. I agree England gave away too many penalties and I agree most were deserved but it is difficult to watch the referees ignore the Dorris tackle and James Lowe jumping in and feel that the referees did a consistent and good job. It is okay to say the referees made the wrong decision and criticise them. We do the same with Murley and his mistakes. I'm sure if it were the other way around, Ireland would have received similar treatment at Twickenham, but it still feels like the decisions were incorrect and it's hard to see them as anything other than a large reason the scoreline was how it was. As an England fan, I am hopeful and excited about the France game. I think the future is bright, but it's still a hard loss to take when the game was winnable. Well done to Ireland, once again proving they are one of the best teams in the world.
Broadly in agreement Tim. First half good enough, second poor for a variety of reasons as you explained. My main grumble which is several years old now, is England's inability to change the game plan on the fly and that comes down to leadership. The current captain and previous 2 are all Saracens players who due to cheating by the club management, effectively had most of there victories bought for them, which manifests itself in their inability to lead and change the game plan on the field. Ireland changed and won, England can't and keep losing from winning positions. It's all there in the results.
Great analysis. Looked at the Ben Earl drop and I wonder if George Martin shouldn’t have caught it. Or maybe he wasn’t lifted correctly. Earl seemed surprised it came to him so I don’t think he is to blame. Maybe Martin or the lifters. But a big moment.
100% with you on the kick-chases. You´ve got to exploit the rule change which exposes the receiver, and considering how poor Prendergast kicking was in the first half, it was definitely the right call to kick, if only for territorial gain. Regarding ref decisions, I think you´re very gracious, Ireland definitely got the rub of the green on the day. As you said, small margins. Regarding Steve Borthwick, I cannot help but think there´s a team management issue. Maybe the guys who play the full 80 mins are not managing their effort or lack conditioning, and he might be waiting too long to make the substitutions, as some players definitely were well in the red. But the team overall is definitely improving, they show incredible commitment, were really aggressive in defense, at least in the first half. Some dodgy clearouts at the ruck (e.g. england player running in to clear beirne could have been reviewed imho) and Murley sure won´t want to watch the replays, but it´s part of the learning, it was his first cap, and he will improve. I for one cannot wait for next week at Twickenham, do we already know who will ref that game?
Nice breakdown. The fact that each Irish try came from defensive mistakes is interesting. I think the buck stops with Borthwick- can’t change that two years into the role.
Excellent analysis Tim. The English media is sooooo anti English rugby until they celebrate our stars the game will never progress. It should be about selling rugby not selling papers or click baited ad space.
That first half was unreal. To only concede 5 points to Ireland away from home with a man down for 10 minutes is incredible. The difference in the second half was their experience and tactical nous. Sheehan, Conan, Crowley exceptional. We are definitely getting better, just not sure what we need to change to get over the line.
@@EggchasersRugbyI feel like they’re good enough but just very inexperienced, hence the Dan, CCS and Murley errors. They need more time but it gets really frustrating hearing that from Borthwick over and over again. Bring on France next week though.
Blaming the ref always sounds like sour grapes but England got a raw deal in the 2nd half with some extremely dubious decisions going against them. However as Tim points out we also made so many mistakes and our bench who I had been so excited about failed massively to deliver any benefit. Very frustrating to watch them implode in that 15 to 20 mins, you cant coach for that head fade. One thing I would have changed is I would have started Willis or brought him on at half time with Chessum, we needed some heft and another line out option.
Totally agree Tim, very good England performance. But it has to be said the amount of try opportunities Ireland butchered in that 1st half. Need to be more clinical.
I would agree 👍 England were superb in the first half... 👏 If they can sustain that kind of explosive energy in a second half we're all stuffed.... Fair play to Ireland to dig deep second half .. greetings from an Irish fan 😊
There's an element of squidge rugby analysis in this video Tim, and im all for it. Please do more, especially for the 6N games , i know it must be time-consuming, but maybe you could do one game of the wknd ? Anyway, great video, England looking good . Just rough edges need to be smoothed out, especially in the fitness area. Borthwick is doing good lets see what they bring to the french game eh.
Hi Tim, don’t know if it was my comment you read I should have listed some positives defence was much improved and attack at points also agree the kicking strategy worked for majority of the game. But why is everything going wrong from 60 mins mistakes that shouldn’t be happening we have to start winning games. The Curry’s and Lawrence stand out players absolutely solid but they can’t do it all on their own. As you mentioned it seemed the bench hindered us rather than bringing impact and yes this isn’t Borthwicks fault. I do think if we beat France it all changes but we must keep consistency in selection players will make mistakes and will learn from it. I just don’t know… this French team are unbelievably good it will take some performance but let’s hope we bounce back 💪🏴
I remember very similar comments on the Springbok tactics during 2019 world cup. Things like why does Faf kick away all the possession? And all the boks does is kick and chase. Even that guy from some or other show called the breakdown, think his name is Sir Johnny Bitchalot Kirwin, said the boks will never amount to anything with that 2 dimensional style of play. Well 4,5 years down the line we had beaten his very own All Black's in securing back to back world cups. Rassie did not have a great record in his first couple of seasons either, but look at him now. I've seen some signs of improvement at the Roses 🌹 maybe the supporters should just be a little patient and trust the system
Love this format with Tim’s commentary overlayed on the video highlights
Thanks for watching. As long as it doesn't get pulled for copyright, I'll do more
This type of analysis over game footage is fire Tim. You should do it more.
I agree- it works well.
From my perspective as an Irish supporter, I thought England were great. Put us under real pressure, just couldn't sustain that tempo for 80 minutes.
I agree . Ireland are a much better oiled and versed team . England will get there we just need more cohesion
Fair. I also think, more fundamentally even, Ireland's players are just better. Not many wearing white you'd pick over those in green.
I really would like to find out why Felix Jones left ?? As a Ireland fan i want him in Ireland setup
@@alcoyne3333333333333 can imagine Borthwick is a bit of control freak and wouldn't let felix have the total freedom to do his thing or he's spoke up and Steve doesn't want to be undermined
Who from England would get into Ireland’s ream? Not many. They’re a better and more established team with better individuals IMO
Hope to see more of these analysis style videos, with the overlay. Really insightful
We've been on an awful run since 2019 ...how long do you want us to wait ????... make that 2003 !
How were we? We couldn’t get out our half for about 60 mins 😂
These games ebb and flow and England could have come out on top, such are the vagaries of Rugby. The most important thing is to learn what's there to be learnt. That's straight out of the Andy Farrell philosophy.
The English media is just unbelievably clueless and narrow-minded, so it’s unfair to expect the public to gain a good understanding of the game.
i reckon there's an exceptionalism running through a few of the England rugger folk in the media.
Well this is the thing - it’s impossible to sustain that level of play. So we won’t ever win tough games and we’ll always fade
Why can young men not make 80 minutes the pensioners of Ireland can do it. I think it’s a bit more than that
improved? they beat Ireland last year
@laoch5658 by a single point and that game was so tight for the entire 80 minutes, margins were tiny
England has improved alot
It's been 3 years. Schmit has improved Australia far more in a year.
Wow, those three years have flown by - time to give someone else a go in charge.
It's an easier job if the team your coaching was at ground zero. They can oly get better with a good coach. He's doing a great job..
@@attackpatterndelta8949 Ronan O'Gara has stated he would leave his current job for England.
Aye. N Z ripped hell out of Fozzie. NZRUs support of Fozzie was a f###### disgrace and utterly disloyal. F f sks, do not behave like that!
You can only have 23 at the game. But Eng don't punch their weight like the women's team do...
no. Anybody who watches rugby know Ireland are 1 of the best teams in the world.
100%. Also no NZ A team players.
Superb video, Tim, thank you. In the search for more streetwise players, do you think those playing in the Top 14 would have something more to offer in such marginal moments? (I appreciate that they are unavailable due to RFU policy).
Good job with this deep dive, pointing out specific moments with video where England players fell short of what Ireland brought to the table.
great break down, i think people also need to go to the pub and watch it, you get so many different perspectives from the opposing fans (Ireland in this case)
The ref and TMO did talk on that tackle and as both were dropping they move on, their was a no arms tackle that lead to last England try it was let go
People need to put some respect on the curry brothers names!
Irishman here. I thought England were very good, however they lacked stamina for the full 80 minutes. Fair play though, they never gave up.
Yeah England were the better team .
I’m glad you put this video out Tim. I’ve watched a lot of content that has come down really hard on England/borthwick. I think the post match analysis from Rugby Union Daily was the worse.
Tim ... don't freak out now but there's a tiny Martin Johnson right behind you ...
Hahaha. Thanks for the heads up
It’s actually the real Martin Johnson but he’s a long way away
As a neutral i thought England are looking better... dont think Ben Curry shoulf be there.. Ireland deserved the win but England capable of knocking over top 4 teams inbtge world
I share your view on Ben. Not many of us do.
Mack Hanson was right about Leinster getting all the decisions. Some awful calls from the ref.
You not a ref.Every time Ireland play people are 😢 about the referee.
Not brilliant but not bad. Much improved and I am far more hopeful than I was.
Well done guys
How?! We were so negative
@ sorry but I disagree I really don’t think we were.
Well I do agree.
Thanks, Tim. Coaches always face scrutiny when results don’t go their way. However, England is developing-arguably faster than any other top-tier team right now. Their defence and discipline will continue to improve.
Seriously ?? What evidence is there for that ??
The penultimate pass on Ireland's final try is so clearly forward. They deserved the win, but damn that stings.
Great to have the video replays Tim
As an Ireland fan. Thought England were brilliant in the fire half. Great kicking and attack. The second half was a combo of 11 having a nightmare. And what looks like England's fitness lagging .
Ireland kicked just as much. And poorly in first half.
Absolutely brilliant game to.
When NZ was at their best, they kicked more than any other team. SA back-to-back RWC champs, kicked the leather off the ball. Just saying.
Cadan Murley - from hero to 'oh no' in record time.
Great analysis again Tim, you'd make an excellent live commentator. Nice to see you have the Manchester Bee on display too. 👏
In such an important game why isn’t TMO used for decisions that are not clear cut like forward passes?Isn’t that what it’s for🤷♂️
No it's not. He's not there to rewatch every possible small infringement - it would destroy the game. He's there for important foul play and to rule on decisions when the on field ref asks for help
@@IverKnackerovbut some were clear as day which change games dramatically but it can be picked up by tmo as quickly as a foot in touch which wouldn’t slow the game at all
Great analysis, Tim
So glad I've found this analysis
@Daniboi971 That's a lot of words to provide evidence that you're one of the people who doesn't know the world rankings.
@bybdy Which "small teams" have England failed to impress against?
Your opinion is tripe based on vibes rather than the actual data.
Is it a case of overcoaching into a specific game plan??
Or rather not having the knowledge to adjust that game plan to be aware that the opponent will change things up second half and adjusting accordingly.
TCUP springs to mind.
Well said Tim, another great video ❤
Prendergast doesn’t throw that pass for the “disallowed try” if th reef doesn’t call it a knock on so null point and was a knock on
Funny how O'Keefe warns England for repeated penalties then pings them on the next one but then later he warns both teams for repeated fighting and says the next time it happens it's Ireland and he does nothing.
Another great video Tim
I don't mind box kicking as long as it is contestable. It's part of the game, and with tall outside backs it makes sense, especially considering that there isn't much change to be had in a heavily defended midfield.
100% agree that the lineout 'push' by Maro was a super soft penalty, but you're looking with your rose tinted shades on if you don't think Slade's blatant push in the back, off the ball, wasn't a clear cut penalty
Yeah getting sick of this .Every time Ireland win its always the refs fault and look what the other sude could have ,should have done.
Spot on.
Brilliant analysis!
Very good analysis, full marks for that. I also thought that the English players, both first picks and bench, ran out of steam with 20 mins to go?
Spot on, great vid Tim
Did you know Tim is a qualified referee?
Too.much box kicking..England have the players to do it ball on hand .just let them play with some freedom
England are getting there and require time
Feels like were slowly improving single aspects of the game, but each time we do, we uncover another issue.
Crucially *individual defensive mistakes. And from young guys in any cases.
Excellent analysis Tim. The English media is sooooo anti English rugby until they celebrate our stars the game will never progress. It should be about selling rugby not selling papers or click baited ad space.
Watching him give a knock on that he couldn’t see because Ireland asked for it is soul destroying
Tim, excellent, I agree
That first half was unreal. To only concede 5 points to Ireland away from home with a man down for 10 minutes is incredible. The difference in the second half was their experience and tactical nous. Sheehan, Conan, Crowley exceptional. We are definitely getting better, just not sure what we need to change to get over the line.
Agree. Probably need better players. Difference in quality dropped with the bench, and Ireland's improved.
I agree. I thought they played well against the Boks too. That game was tight. And I'm a Bok fan
