- AN UPDATE ON PHABENI ✨
Last week, Phabeni had been drinking only about 70-80% of his milk bottles for five days, leaving enough milk that we were concerned about his health and loss of weight which we could pick up when we weighed him at the orphanage. Before it became life-threatening Adine organised over the weekend for Dr Rogers to visit in this new week, which was a great call since on Sunday Phabeni left about 70% of his milk behind. Although he is feeding in the bush, it is not a sufficient amount to make up for the energy he needs, as well as the fats, proteins, and carbohydrates that he requires. His milk is rich in these, with coconut oil providing the fats.
We need to keep Phabeni's routines the same each day to prevent stress as any little change disrupts not only him but also the whole herd, especially Setombe, Klaserie, and Tokwe. On the day that we arranged this week for Dr Rogers to visit, the little bull enjoyed a swim at the dam with his herd and then the elephants walked him home to the orphanage. Setombe and Klaserie walked Phabeni to the orphanage gate while the herd stayed back. As they approached, they heard Dr Rogers' vehicle and Setombe and Klaserie got spooked and ran back to the herd, trumpeting. The other elephants ran toward them and met at the homestead, where our team tried to calm them down. Eventually, Setombe was able to walk Phabeni to the orphanage to meet with Dr Rogers. The little calf was not keen on being separated from the herd, as is understandable, and let out big cries.
In the nursery, Dr Rogers administered the bull with a drip of saline solution and vitamins and took blood to run tests for any viruses or insufficiencies. We are happy to say that none were found. The vet team checked Phabeni's blood sugar levels which also proved to be good. Phabeni was very dehydrated though. It is never an easy decision to sedate a calf or administer a drip as they are often already in a fragile state but Phabeni pulled through and over the days that followed, he drank his milk - although not all the formula with every feeding. He also put on weight. We are not out of the woods and we do not know what is causing Phabeni to sometimes not finish a milk bottle. This is vital for his health and survival. We are grateful for this upswing but the team is prepared for whatever may follow.
We are immensely grateful for everyone's concern and messages of support for Phabeni!
Thank you to our wildlife vet Dr Rogers and his team, plus our carers on the ground, doing whatever it takes to get the little bull to pull through. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Oh gosh, when he calls for his herd, it must break everyone's heart a little. I can see in his body language he is upset, but I also know he needs treatment and tests, and his health and best interests are at the core of this. Phabeni, please drink your milk. Extra hugs to him today and always - he's a fighter.
Breaks my heart I know that much😢
I mean can you blame him? He lost one herd already and doesn't understand why he's being kept from this one (but I understand it's so he can get better) but poor guy :(
@@maggiemccauslin1084 I know - so sad his circumstances 😢rips me apart. Any baby without their mum.
Oh! He drank his whole bottle!! This makes me so happy!!! ♥️😊😃‼️
thousands of people concerned for this guy.
I'm crying. How beautiful it is to see the herd protecting him. Wonderful doctors and helpers. I just want him to live.
Me too. My blood pressure is doing a "YOYO".
Just want him well full of life and nonsense for his age🙏👍❤️
It’s the same for me my blood pressure is not good ! we don’t know what happens to my little emperor ‘just cry on the morning or when I listen to him screaming ! it’s so hard Phabeni is not like Khanyisa at all ! He is very emotive because he got 2 traumas and they are always there sometimes ! he has not baby elephant friends ! mum Setombe has to be there with him !! to give him love and calm him ‘ or he has to go to a neonatal clinic !! drips help but not care !! 😭
Yep, I'm crying too. I feel like he's our own family. The stubborn little rascal that we all know
I’m joining the crying club! My mother doesn’t understand how emotional this can be. That’s ok! All of you understand ❤️❤️❤️
I pray to St. Francis and Quan Yin and Mary and all the Bodisatnvas out there to help keep him alive and well
Thank you for the update. We are all, around the world, loving this little guy and prayers are being sent to our Heavenly Father. 🙏
Amen. God is faithful. ❤❤❤
AMEN! If humans can heal him, I know if we all continue to pray in a whole then God will definitely answer our prayers.🙏❤️🐘👍🏻
Amen and Amen 🙏 From our hearts and mouths to God's Ears🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
So good to see little Phabeni drink his milk! Thanks to all for making him strong again! Prayers and hugs! ❤
Almighty Father, you love Phabeni more than we ever could. Please have mercy and spare his life so we can watch him grow into a mighty beast that we may learn from him and his trials… may Your Everlasting Mercy follow him and the entire herd (elephant and human) for many years to come! Amen! ❤
Amen 🙏
Amen
Amen ❤
Amen ❤
I add to this a fervent Amen! 🙏🏻 🙏🏻
One thing is clear, he's definitely part of the herd now! He obviously feels safe and loved by them. Hope he recovers from whatever is ailing him!
It's clear he's still suffering from a lot of emotional damage. 😟
Sending love and prayers for healing baby Phabeni. ❤💕
Maybe the baby is scared of losing the herd since losing his mamma. Maybe keep one of the other elephants close as he feeds, so he can see he's being protected.
I also think he has serious separation anxiety since losing his family once.
I agree with you…I wish they would try to have one or two of the other elephants with him and he would feed a bit better.
That really sounds like a great idea. 🫶
Exactly he is different and his needs are different. He needs to be with the herd as has separation anxiety. ❤
Yes I also think the same. At least try to place sunshine in the day at the orphanage garden to play n drink their milk together for sometime until baby phabeni recover. I believe sunshine will be a good sister to phabeni.
We're all praying for Phabeni, sweet baby.🙏🙏
So happy to see these beautiful animals protected and cared for. I adore elephants.
Thank you all for helping Phabeni through this rough time. He has a good little tantrum having to leave his Mommy. 🩵🩵🩵
He did!! 😊
Phabeni may talk / rumble softly, but he certainly can shout, scream, and object vehemently that he could not go out with his mommy and the herd.
Thank you for keeping us posted on the little guy! Sending hugs and good thoughts for his return to good health!
His cry’s make me so sad, even though i know what they are doing is for his good.
I can't believe how emotionally bonded I have become to little Phabeni.
I felt that way with Khynasia and now our baby boy.
🩷🐘🩵
Same. Poor little guy. 🥺 I have almost been afraud to look for news about him. I trust Herd and the carers though. ❤🐘❤️
Same here, I adore the little guy. Adine and the wonderful team are doing an amazing job. I have so much admiration and loving respect for them all.
Get well Grow strong Phabeni 💕
Stay safe beautiful herd. 💕
Thank you. So I'm not crazy. 😢 Just very worried.
That’s how I was when our sweet Pinky Khanysia came to HERD. She was so scared and sick and it was very touchy with her life and I did nothing but cry all the time for her and I even would type my comments with tears in my eyes too. With lots of prayers, Beni can be healed and well no doubt.🙏❤️🐘
I hope baby Phabeni pulls through. He is much loved by the herd, the members of HERD and viewers around the world. He so wants to be with his adoptive elephant family 💖
My 5ye old grandson is going to school and wants all of you to help Phabeni by pledging 1,000 prayers. He's going to have his class and school attach prayers to this comment so he can get 1,000 prayers for Phabeni so please help Phabeni and send your prayer here... Thank you,
This is beautiful, your grandson is truly an exceptional boy. May God bless him and your entire family.❤❤
Loving Jesus, please heal little Phabeni so he can grow big and strong! Thank you Jesus for saving Phabeni when HERD found him. We know You love all Your creatures and Phabeni is special to Your Heart! We love You Jesus and our little Phabeni! 🙏💙❤🐘🙏
Amen
So wonderful to read this.❤🙏
What a sweet thing to do. ❤ I have been (& will continue) praying for Phabeni.
God bless Phabeni and make him well and strong again -
Thousands of people around the world are praying for lil boy Phabeni to get well soon ❤❤❤
I Love you so much little Phabeni --- praying for you each day that you stay strong, little boy. Sending Healing Prayers from across the World. 🙏🏻♥️🐘♥️🙏🏻
He needs the herd more. His emotional state is effecting his physical state. Feed him, WITH the herd.
YES !!!
As a former special ed teacher..my behavioral pla would be positive reinforce the drinking of milk..with immediate location to his surrogate mom ..provided he drinks the whole thing..I like your idea too..feed him next to the females..
Yeah this little one has severe separation anxiety, on top of his health issues. He doesn't want to loose another elephant family. He loves his mum Setombe❤ He's different from Khanyisa. And that's ok, every soul is unique.
I love you Phabeni and light a candle everyday for you💙👑 He's our little Prince, a future King 👑
So very different, really!
Lost his Mama once. Doesn't want that again. Could Setombe come into the orphanage yard?
I know people all over the planet are cheering for this little elephant. You are an incredible team.
Awww Beni didn’t want to leave his mommy. He is just absolutely adorable. Bless him. Never seen an elephant with kind eyes like he has.
Exactly ❤. No one wants to be alone 🤩🥰😍.

Agreed. Although they all have beautiful eyes, something about Baby B's are exceptional!👍
Oh, bless that darling baby Phabeni, I'm praying every day for his recovery. 🙏🐘💖💖💖💖
I just lost my fur child of 21 years last month and this is just gripping at my heart and soul. Come on Baby Beni...you got this, Sweetie. We're all praying for you. I keep imaging Baby P in two years when he's even bigger and stronger❤
I know how painful is to lose a beloved pet.
My deepest condolences to you.
You'll see her/him in the afterlife.
Same. Please take care of yourself. People say dumb things and don't understand. ❤
@@rocioaguilera3555 thank you💖
@@arcticgoddess they do, but they usu. mean well so I just thank them for their sentiments💖
I’m so so sorry for your loss!!! 💔
Go Phabeni! We love you! Pls grow to a big and healthy elephant 🙏
So difficult to watch 😢. So sad and upsetting. Come on little one, you have a wonderful future ahead with a loving family. ❤
I’ll continue praying for the little baby, and the whole herd and carers.
So relieved he drank all his milk! Poor baby. He is so lucky to have such a wonderful team in his corner.
The medication in the sedative may also have anti-anxiety effects, so that, maybe, he felt less stressed and was able to refocus on drinking milk instead worrying about where his mother is.
He so wants to be with the herd. Poor sweet boy.
Thank you so much for your support ❣️🐘
Could it be that he's not drinking because he wants to permanently be around the herd? He's such a little warrior and I hope whatever is wrong comes right
Agreed..they should try different tactics with this little male
I wondered the same. Khaniysa was separated from a Herd and dependent on only humans longer due to her wounds healing so she adjusted differently.
Phabeni was able to go to the Herd sooner. He seems to be more Elephant dependent. 🐘
Poor Adine. The strain of worry is obvious on her face and in her demeanor. She loves this baby bull so much and as she says they are so fragile. 😔🙏❤️
Dr Rogers will make phabeni better, lots of prayers for all at herd
We may not be there physically with all of you and Phabeni but our hearts are there feeling all the emotions of live, concern etc. Thank you for bringing these magnificent animals into our homes as individuals.
Baby elephants are so fragile. I was glad to read that Phabeni seems to be doing a bit better after this treatment. I'm praying he pulls through.❤🐘
Come on baby, you are surrounded by love, dont give up¡❤Gracias!
We are grateful for your kind donation.
I hope that memories of being abandoned didn't stir in Phabeni when he had to stay at the nursery for treatment. His reluctance at leaving the herd was palpable. 😢❤
He wasn't abandoned, he was stolen!
@@tessdurberville711 Really? By whom?
@@tessdurberville711 for goodness sakes get your facts right, he was found along either left or wander away from his herd. He was not stolen, just get your facts right! Don’t go making statements when you don’t know the facts or truths. HERD people Adine and carers would not steal a calf! He was a rescue and that is what HERD is all about, they don’t breed but these Ellie’s actually bond together, they don’t breed Elephants but rescue.
@@tessdurberville711 and you know this how? He was found alone with no signs of any herd nearby... stop trying to make this rescue place look bad for things you make up
@@tessdurberville711 I have no idea who may have once stolen him, I'm simply appreciative to the max that The Herd rescued him. He has a chance to live a marvelous life ñow.
It was so good to watch him drink the milk after his drip. Keep on getting better seuntjie.
Beni so loves his adoptive family. Praying he makes a speedy recovery so he can be with his loving family all day, every day.
Amen. ❤❤❤
Absolutely. He does for sure needs to be with his elephant family but, I pray they make sure he’s completely well before releasing into the elephant family permanently.🤞🏼🙏❤️🐘
Amen to that prayer 🙏 I believe they will keep him in the nursery for a while, because Phabeni is still under 12 months. And he gets his milk bottles throughout the night. So it could be a while before he is ready to join the herd full time. He is a strong little Bull, and I am praying that he will grow to love his milk bottles as much as Khanyisa does! 🙏❤️🐘
He knows he's an elephant and wants to be with his family🥰. This stubborn littld guy is well aware of where he belongs!❤️
At least Setombe has witnessed the Herd team do so much good for the orphans that she knows he's in good hands❤
He is a stubborn and determined little fellow. "I want to play with the big elephants. The vet is boring".
😂 So right. 😊
What do you want him to do cartwheels and a little comedic act s/
I agree he is a stinker -later for the vet , he says ,take me to the big guys my family is waiting
OH MY WORD 😭 crying throughout. Precious Phabeni you are in my prayers several times a day. I cannot even imagine how hard this is on all of you there at HERD. THANK YOU for all of your hard work. Blessings of health for our little Bull 🐘🙏🏼🕉️💜🐘🌻
Un énorme bravo pour tout ce que vous faites avec tant d’amour et de respect pour ces animaux merveilleux
Merci 🙏💙✨🌈😍🥰💙
Hearing him call out to his herd was heart-breaking. Poor little guy. 💜💜💜
🤍🐘
He just wants to be a normal elephant, bless his wild heart.🐘
A huge shout out to Dr Rogers... THANKYOU ❤
I am glad Phabeni considers Adine one of his mothers❤
ADINE-- YOUR PATIENCE WITH MR. DEFIANT IS AMAZING!
😊😊😊❤❤❤ Agree 100%.
Thanks to Dr. Roger's and team, Adine and careers. And to all followers of Herd for their prayers and positive energy may Phabeni thrive with his herd. Thank you. And like you I love this little guy. 🐘❤️

His cries kill my soul ..i imagine thats how he cried when he lost his mom 😢❤ dear God please give this baby a miracle and let him live. I remember Fenya may she rest in peace 😢🙏🕊💕
Ah you guys did such a good job in the treatment. Everyone quiet and working gently, with no loud noises and Adine's constant touch. Thank you for all that you do, yes he is a precious little guy!
It is difficult to hear how frustrated he is.
Look at that sleepy eye, those pretty toes, that fuzzy baby hair on his head. So sweet a little baby Ellie
patient.
Thank you so much for your support ❣️🐘
I can hear worry in Adine's sighs. Adine know that people are praying and I know God loves this little guy!
Oh dear, little sweetheart really wants to be with his family. Thank you for the update on darling little Phabeni, been checking daily for more news since the last video. Glad to hear he's still been going out with the herd even though he's not 100%. And thanks for sharing the video showing Dr Rogers visit. I love how quiet everyone was around the little guy even though he was sedated. Praying that dear Phabeni keeps getting better and builds up his strength 🙏❤🐘❤
I looooove phabeni. He just 2ants to be with his 'parents', in their comforting embrace..nothing beats that much as he looves his human family
Hats off to you Adine.❤
It is a job of a lot patience.
You are truly blessed 🙌
Come on little guy, you’ve got this! Sending much love and strength from Yorkshire,UK.
Please don't forget that they need money for the Solar panels and Wind Mills to help them. Money for the vet bills too. Thank you again for all your help 🙏
Maybe feeling him when he's with the Herd.
@muffassa6739 I think they do. There must be a reason for what they're doing. LoL. Well, of course. 😅
Thank you for your love and care for this special little angel.
I see in Adine's face the concern for him. Blessings and prayers for Adine and the Herd team Can't imagine the 24/7 hours involved .not to mention the worry and heart ache. Phabeni!! You are loved❤

He didn’t want to see Dr. Rogers. He knows the doctor is going to prick him with a needle again. He’s not crazy. He doesn’t want another needle.
PS I feel badly that I didn’t say Bless You To The Whole Team There! You are all Angels for these very smart magnificent creatures!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
A world of love and prayers are surrounding our darling Phabeni with light toward a speedy and full recovery.
I never imagined that I would be so emotionally invested like this. His cry hurt my heart. We all want Phabeni to get better. We are all so worried about him. Phabeni is a fighter. He was saved for a reason. ❤
He just loves his Ellie Family ❤

Phabeni is such a good boy; I know this so emotional for all of you. He's so cute and very intelligent. Love the trust/bond he has with you Adine, Owen, Stavros, Khensani, etc. Dr. Roger and his team are so gentle and attentive, ensuring all is well always. All of you are where you are suppose to be life. Many hugs and prayers always...

Everyday 🙏🏼for baby Phabeni’s health. He sure loves his mama & family❤❤❤
Poor Phabeni. He was trumpeting because he was sad and mad he could not be with his family. Thank you to his human family for helping him get onto the road to recovery.
Such beautiful, love and devotion for precious, Phabeni, thank you for sharing and get well super soon, sweetheart!
Little fellow. All too human behavior, and I am not projecting. His screaming is the best compliment to the herd actually. And when there's a follow up, implies he's still around. Cheers!
Praise the Lord! He is drinking his bottle!
So glad he drank his whole bottle
He has to drink it all the time not only once in the Blue Moon
👍
Lots prayers & hugs for Phabeni, hopefully Dr Rogers did his magic for another treasured baby. Thanks for sharing Adine 👍
That a sad, lonely, lost little ellie boy could touch millions of people worldwide is truly amazing. With such love & mass prayers for him, Im sure he'll be okay. God bless his carers & supporters...

Sweet, precious little baby Phabeni! We all love you so much and are so worried about you. Please, get well!!!❤🩵👶💪🤞🙏🍀🍀🍀🍼🍼🍼Thank you Adine, Dr. Rogers and everyone who helps you through these difficult times!🙏🙏🙏
I wish I was there holding him. Precious is the perfect word
Phabeni has never been that interested in his milk bottles not like Khanyisa who was grabbing them as soon as she could!! Hope he gets better soon!!🙏🙏🐘🐘🐘❤️❤️😃😃💯💯💯 It could be he just doesn't like the milk in the bottles, maybe smaller amounts more often?!!!🐘🐘🐘or is he teething?
They should let Khanyisa drink her bottle in front of Phabeni to motivate him.
