I like your introduction very much, especially since you bring in prototypical operations and use them as a logical basis for the layout track plan. A simple continuous oval with a siding or two can soon become stale after building is complete if the layout is to be more than a child's toy. I look forward to the rest of this series!
Personally I just enjoy building the kits and doing the scenery so the operation doesn't matter to me. You should find out what you like doing and not worry about whether it's realistic or not and enjoy yourself as your hobby
Because of this series I started building my own model railroad layout. Great track plan to start with. I added 4 tracks for a shadow station underneath. Thank you for the inspiration Martin. 🙂👍
People need to watch lots of videos of experienced model railway builders and learn their techniques. I use Anyrail now as a first start, after deciding how big my board will be. I find it helps iron out problems and means I do not buy too much or not enough track. It gives you your shopping list.
Great! For those interested in ferry operation there exists a kit from Walthers for a railway ferry apron and a railway barge with 3 tracks on board which can easily be transformed into a ferry boat adding a scatch-built superstructure!
Martin, I found you here on YT from watching Luke Towan's channel. im strictly a devoted follower ( who supports you on Patreon) who loves following all you guys with your railroad layouts / ho scale dioramas, even miniatures... Also, this upcoming series looks exciting. It's a good example of why I happily support. Thz you again!
Hello Martin, this is very exciting. I very much look forward to your progress. New Year, new layout, new series, perfect. Please don’t take offense at the following. You are multilingual, and I have much respect for that. I barely speak one language. Lol. So a small correction..... a fr ight train would be something one might find on a Halloween train. Lol....... a fr hate train carries freight. Please take this in the manner it was intended. A loving correction. . I look forward to this series. See ya.
Perfect timing for me too Martin - Thanks. I have learning MRR lore from you for a while now, starting with the beautiful scenicing that you do. Soon I will be starting on my next layout and a review of basic concepts is great, particularly in a tidy, compressed presentation. Then eventually I can go back and build a beautiful environment drawing in part from your excellent work. Someday my Märklin trains will have a fitting world in which to run! and you will have helped immensely.
My track plans also consider time-period, season, and geographic location for the layout, to select motive power, rolling stock, structures, figures, and landscaping materials. A starter set or prototype is a great way to decide which items are period-correct for your layout; however, modern accessories aren't always available to compliment the latest model trains. Another consideration is the scale. N-scale is gaining popularity, at least in the USA, and more track can be laid in the same space, when N-scale is compared to HO scale...
While I wouldn't class myself as a beginner, I'm really looking forward to this series. The whole idea of the "ferry" is 𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑢𝑠 and has so many possible variations.👍👌😁 I also learned that Swedish railways run on the correct track - I didn't know that Martin.😁
Very well done, since I am in the starting phase( for the last 20 years or so) I will be watching your clips as soon as they arrive. Oh and I am glad I signed up as a patron, you're worth it! :)
Excellent video Martin, there is a lot in this that could solve a few of the problems I have encountered with my actual layout. I did not put enough thought into the fact that there has to be some kind of "flow" on the layout to have trains moving ini a close to realistic manner. But seeing this video has already given me some new ideas how to untangle a few of my "knots"
Thanks for the interesting video, I started one then got lost in the planning and haven't been back to doing it again, so hopefully these videos give me inspiration to start again.
Awesome. I had my model railroad layout built since 2019 but not quite content with my track plan. Looking forward to watch episode 2. I know, I want to change things. Thanks for your videos. Very helpful. Have a great weekend.
Just awesome and perfect timing! I am setting up my extented starterkit on my kitchentable and are highly interested in your shadowstation. :-) A big cheer from Germany! By the way, Märklin itself is making a series for beginners at the moment as a weekly „livestream“. Looking forward for the next episode.
Martin, as always your knowledge is exciting to model railroading fans. I look forward to learning some new skills and ideas for my ho scale railroad that is one year old now...finishing my rail yard and need ideas on operations. Best to you via Maine USA
I've always really enjoyed your videos, however this new series is just a cut above everything, not only realistic in size and budget, but very well thought out regarding operations and a functioning reason for the railway. so I'm dragging out my tt again (just dismantled my tt layout: I really needed this video beforehand!) and I've done that monthly patreon thing. it's funny, but I reckon that you could wire just the end loops as seperate reverse curves, therefore having the ability to connect both running tracks at the stations. Well done Martin, knew these Swedes would come through... :)
Hi Martin, I´ll stay tuned!!! A little bit I´am sad, because: "The whole thing would certainly have its charm also as an Z-gauge project"!!! But anyway, it´s always great to follow your modeling! Greetings out of my own little crafting basement, Olli alias "DER Z-CRACK"
Hey Martin. Al ready shared your video on danish fb-groups. Hope they will all subscribe to your channel. Personally I really enjoy watching your tutorials.
Hi there Martin, I'm just starting but i follow you for a longer time. Love your video's and i'm excited to see more from this Martin Town series! Keep up thuis good work!!! Best regards, Ed from the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
Love your channel. Your English is very good. Just pointing out something. Height = hite. Freight = frate. Why we do that with the pronunciation is beyond me. I’m also learning Spanish as a hobby and that make pronunciation much easier.
hey Martin, great to see these videos. I wish I could get Martinstown 2.0. something of Martinstown expansion or variation😜 or something totally new🙈 Just a compliment, but this series of yours is great. I love it but now I have ordered this set from Noch. Is there a delay. I think they're busy at Nor, probably because of Martinstown? 😜It will now arrive in late November/early December.
Hola hola, extraño en este tutorial el doblaje en español es una lastima....se lo fantástico de sus tutoriales 😪Ojalã pueda tener acceso a dicha I formación. Un abrazo desde Colombia.
Very nice video. Concerning the layout I’ve always learned that the outer curve in a dobbletack should be used for inclines whereas the innertrack should be used for declines. Your layout uses the steepest incline for the trains to climb, possible more than 3%. What is the reason for that?
Dear Martin, I have been following you for years, that will be wonderful again, do you also have a construction drawing and a shopping list, what to buy and maybe where? Thank you greetings from Rob
Excellent series Martin, didn't see all episodes yet but I really like the design. I had Minitrix DCC but meanwhile moved to the US, so make a start again with Kato N Unitrack. I was able to create the track in Scarm that was quite similar to your design without the dual tracks in the shadow station. That all with just one trouble point that was within 1-2mm, As I am trying to design in Scarm and unfortunately Kato doesn't offer the fllexibilty of Trix I run into trouble when creating the shadow station and end up with a gap of about 12mm for which Kato doesn't offer a solution. Probably go over it again and try to come to something with no gap or at least a much smaller gap. That brings me to a question, because of the elevation differences, a design in one plane probably wouldn't give the correct view and I wonder even if Scarm calculates the elevation changes during placing of the tracks. But how much slack would we have if the design doesn't turn out to be perfect? I'm more or less drawing the design to know what track to buy so I can not test fit at the moment.
Hi. How are you attaching the track feeder wires to main bus wires on DCC layout ? Solder to bus wire ? Terminal strips ? Or suit case connectors ? Thank you
MVH/ Philip
Ah, now I know why he uses the term "Prototype", I'd just assumed he was a C programmer .. :D P.s. intrigued by this series, hope the next episode is ready soon!
Hello Martin, I really hate to say it- but the link to your website seems to be broken or you moved the content. Otherwise great video tutorial like always. But could you please fix that link?
Do you ever get gunked up scenery from running the smoke on your trains? I’ve heard mixed opinions on smoke in steam locos and the smoke not being the best long term due to the oil residue getting everywhere.
Hej Martin, super fine video serie, og virkelig fin bane. Din video serie er fantastisk for alle nybegyndere. Bravo! Hvad med signaler, kunne du ikke også lave en video med hvilke signaler som skal bruges,. Mvh Thomas Heder, Aalborg, Danmark
A didatic explanation about Model Railroad, doing comparisons with a Real Railroad. Fantastic. Congrats!
Oh seems to be a good series!
I‘m excited
Hi Martin!
I like your new beginner serie. I think we all can learn a lot.
Greetings from North Germany. 😊

Good to see all the people are observing social distancing 😷
I’m Very much looking forward to this series Greetings from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
Und wir schauen natürlich bei Dir zu Tommy! Toll, wie Moba über alle Grenzen hinweg verbindet!!!
I am at the startup too. Lets rock that IKEA Railroad. :-)
People need to watch lots of videos of experienced model railway builders and learn their techniques. I use Anyrail now as a first start, after deciding how big my board will be. I find it helps iron out problems and means I do not buy too much or not enough track. It gives you your shopping list.
I started my railroad today. Good timing. Thanks.
This is exactly what I needed at this point. Thank you! (Went to IKEA yesterday)

Nice to see the different ways to use or enjoy the model clearly explained.

Denna serie skall bli riktigt kul att följa
love the new series. I will need to convince my loved one that we need the get a house soon ( live in a apartment i Karlstad). Take care!
My track plans also consider time-period, season, and geographic location for the layout, to select motive power, rolling stock, structures, figures, and landscaping materials.

I just bought 3tables fron ikea. 120x60cm for my N-scale layout. Great idea

Finally .. the idea i needed.. :D.. had a layout like this on my mind the entire time.. but needed an layout idea ^^ thank you .
man my first set was one from trix, I really love the way their C-rail uses the marklin system but you can run 2-rail loco's
Great video, Martin and a great idea!
stellar series!
You deserve more followers. Love your videos!! Marklin fan.
Happy New Year from Ulm, Germany! Stay well!
Great work! Looking forward to the rest of the series!

FANTASTIC video made for nobs just like me 😎
Yes yes yes! This is AMAZING! Thanks so much for the amazing content
What a great Project! My layout is based on the same „IKEA“ Tables. Just an easy and cheap way to start a layout :-). Greetings, Micha!
My new layout will be a small town with a Rail Road Museum with scenic trips for tourists and some small industries.
Great project Martin.
Love this concept. Really looking forward to see what Will be happening. :) and a happy new year to you.

Wow! Amazing and very interesting!
going to really good to learn from, thankyou
Do you plan to install a linkspan for the train ferry? It would look very nice. Many Danish club layout have train ferry scenes.

Nice with a new video tutorial!, but do you also have a tutorial on how to get money so you can get started😂
I think you need to go watch Budget Model Railways channel for that. :)
Awww yeah!!!!
Amazing.
Ah, now I know why he uses the term "Prototype", I'd just assumed he was a C programmer .. :D
P.s. intrigued by this series, hope the next episode is ready soon!
Google for “proto87” or “proto4” (or scalefour). 😉
Wow nice video pakistan
