One thing my dad will never let me forget...Having him take me to see Beetlejuice at the theater. He absolutely hated it, thought it was the dumbest thing he's ever seen. He still talks about it. I actually thought of buying him tickets to the Broadway Musical last year for his birthday as a joke. I still kind of wish I could have seen his face.
I saw the musical last summer. I thought it was pretty good.
The guy with all the buttons in the first ad is Ramblin' Rod! Watched his TV program all the time as a kid growing up in the 80s. Had several classmates that managed to get seats in his audience, and my 2nd grade class sent him a big package of buttons to add to his collection.
Loving the Halloween special!! Thank you for the additional videos.
it puts a smile on my face during these hard times every time I watch these commercials
ahhhhhhh yes, the "Public Library" family of brands. big fan!
0:30 - Something tells me after this was filmed, that kid tore off that Atari shirt, and spent hours in front of his Nintendo...
@@Yo_DynamoJoe And would anyone really take that boxing game over Mike Tyson's Punch-Out back then?
The man wearing all those buttons in the Kids Readathon PSA reminds me of those old cars that are almost completely covered in bumper stickers.
That's one dedicated parent if she got out of work early to give her child peanut butter in the Jif Commercial.
I think I would be creeped out by Aunt Jemima's head coming out of the clouds as if it were the sun, even if it summoned pancakes to rain down on my plate and cleared the sky.
@21:30 I recognized this music and it took me a moment where I know it from; Rhino DVDs used this music, I remember specifically from the old MST3K releases.
Thanks! I was wondering where I had heard that music before, and I remember them from the numerous MST3K DVDs I used to have.
That UFO looks like a chicken pot pie.
"Beetlejuice" had a VHS release in 1988. NOW (since September of 2020) there's a 4K blu-ray release.
I saw "UFO Cover Up? Live" when it was live. Actually, I recorded it via VCR so I could zip through the commercials. That tape wouldn't have that today (maybe too worn out by now) after I've seen it a couple times.
RiP Cub Foods. My older sister and her then-boyfriend/later husband (now widowered) would have been working there in 1988.
It's funny how the Irish Spring is spraying out water at the actor.
"Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game."
How appropriate, you fight like a cow
That guy at the beginning is the all-time flair king at Chotchkie’s.
I never had any idea that ShoeSource went by different names in different parts of the country. They were always Payless ShoeSource here in Colorado. Sadly, no matter the name, they’re all gone now.
Holy cow that War of the Worlds promo was genuinely scary.
I remember the US Video Game team put out videotapes that had tips on how to play NES games around this time!
Finally the music at 21:30 was used on the logo for Rhino Home Video (I know this from their MST3K DVDs!)

"UFO Cover Up? Live", hopefully the most embarrassing hour of Mike Farrell's life. Because if anything tops that....
Funny there's Atari ads as 1988 is when the NES started picking up speed and the Master System was just out
All the Atari games they're trying to promote here are crap compared to what Nintendo and Sega are releasing at the same time.
Happy Ann Halloween 4 Oct 21 1988 32 years ago today.
UFO Cover Up Live-did Geraldo Rivera host this..?
Quaker Extra-Godspeed,Wilford :(
GI Joe's Winter Sports & Warehouse Sale-when your'e there, ask for the employee named "Snow-Job"..he'll give you a discount on heavy coats
War Of The Worlds-loved the first season, hated the second where they killed off half the cast..(R.I.P Jared Martin)
UFO Cover Up? Live was hosted by actor Mike Farrell.
I remember when i was a kid if other kids saw you wearing pro wings they would make fun of you, also i wonder who was the lucky woman who won the two mazdas in the Woman's Day Mazda way instant game?
Taco Bell make a run for the border then make a run for the toilet
Wow, no wonder Atari's two late 1980s consoles were neglected. Their ads are boring and the games they're promoting are old. Meanwhile Nintendo was bringing out the Super Mario and Legend of Zelda sequels while Sega was publishing Phantasy Star.
