Holy crap you really paddled that wolf, I guess that's what you get when you mess with Team Eurogamer after all ... the butts fixation makes so much more sense now.
Thanks, Ian and Aoife! This was a ton of fun. One of my favourite games of all time, and it's still so much fun watching people go through the early areas! They really throw you in at the deep end. Everybody should give this a shot now it's free! It won't be for everyone but you might be surprised; I'm already seeing friends who thought they'd hate it start to really come around on it a few hours in.
Haven't played it for a year or so, but I'm pretty sure to perform a visceral after a stagger you don't do a charge attack, you just press R1. So: a) I'm wrong, b) Aoife doesn't know this/got it wrong accidentally, or c) she's trolling Ian at around the 25min mark. I hope it's c)
Use your switchy switchy to (a) unlock your fastest combos (R1 > L1 > R1 > R1 > L1) (b) Make use of the hard knockdown in long-axe's charge R2...it has hyper armor (so you can't get hit out of it), AOE, and knocks almost anything on the floor for easy okizeme
I am also a Filthy Inverter, but never before had I considered that perhaps I was imagining the joystick impaled in the back of my avatar's skull and that's why it's comfortable. Thank you, Ian.
Very late comment, but using this logic - meaning that the joystick is implanted in the back of the character's head - inverters should invert both y- AND x-axis. Because turning your head left would mean pushing the joystick right and vice versa. But most of them, like Ian, only invert the Y-axis. Which isn't consistent with their justification for inverting.
@@Paroex Because very few games let you do that. It's actually just aviation controls, like where joysticks were first used & from where gaming took the idea.
@@nightcatarts Absolutely, but in a game where it's allowed like Bloodborne, Ian's logic (joystick attached to back of head) would dictate that he inverts the x-axis as well. Which he doesn't. Inverting controls is 100% absolutely fine and no one should be lambasted for it. But the "joystick-in-the-back-of-the-head" argument does not hold water unless you invert both y- and x-axes whenever possible (like Bloodborne).
@@Paroex Your argument doesn't make much sense because to look left/right we rotate our heads left or right. You can't rotate an analogue stick, only tilt it, so tilting left or right is the most natural, just as tilting back on the stick mimics tilting your head back to look upwards. Though I only invert controls in first person games, where the view is very similar to real life, and use standard controls in third person games where you're controlling the camera rather than your character's direct view.
@@rosstee I think we're actually on the same page. What I said was that if one uses the stick in the back of the head-logic, i.e., tilting the analogue stick tilts the hypothetical stick in the back of the head, then for constency's same, both the X and Y axis should be inverted. I was only directing my comment towards those who A) uses the stick in the head argument AND also B) inverts Y axis only, and not X.
Ian, I've only watched five minutes of this so far, and I'm new to Eurogamer (apart from Aoife and Johhny's DS playthrough), but your arguments on inverting controls have won my respect already. Bravo. Been saying that for YEARS. You and Mike Channell should have t-shirts printed or something.
I definitely think Ian should give this a chance on his own time. I've seen many people who didn't like the previous souls games really like this one and it nails the iconic lovecraftian existential horror feel better than any other game or movie.
I refuse to believe it's Ian's first time after destroying the wolf so easily. He knew to strafe it and stick behind it like a veteran player. If it's his first time, he's gonna be the best at these games.
I just started playing this tonight, helpful to get a few pointers. 'tis quite obtuse in the beginning. Also hats off to Ian for spanking that first wolf, it et me in two eats.
I hope you two both realise what a wasted opportunity it would be if this "BloodBorne Late to the Party" doesn't transform to the new weekly "Let's Play BloodBorne" series! Ian already has the basics down and Aoife clearly remembers the in's and out's of the game. Maybe Johnny would like to join you for a few gravity experiments as well :)
I've always assumed my preference for inverted controls comes from playing flight sims decades ago. Pulling the joystick back makes the plane go up, and afterwards that mechanic just felt right on other 3D games.
It's been a long time since joysticks were a common PC peripheral, they've kind of fallen of favour which may be why people don't us "inverted people" XD
I love both Bloodborne and Late to the Party but I had to turn this off after it became very clear that no one was ever going to tell Ian about weapon transformation, which is bizarre because Aoife mentions it at the start of the video. How do you get someone to play Bloodborne for over an hour and never mention L1 to transform weapons, how regain works, or how to perform visceral attacks (which is the primary purpose for guns in the game)? I was SCREAMING at my monitor.
The lack of regain attacks was what was killing me. It's the defining aspect of how dark souls and bloodborne are different to me (and why a lot of people who aren't dark souls fans love bloodborne). In dark souls, you get spanked, you retreat. In bloodborne, you get spanked, you charge in to recover your health.
I reaaaaally hated this game when I first played it last year. Forced myself through to the Cathedral Ward and just couldn't stand it. Picked it up again about a month ago and I adore it, for some reason. Just managed to kill Amelia and I have a lovely hat, so all is well. This should totally be the Let's Play after DS!
bloodborne is great and definitely a notch above dks3 in terms of map design but it still falls flat compared to the shortcuts and connections of dark souls 1. the shortcuts in bloodborne are ultimately limited to within their respective zones. there was never many scenarios where you realized you had gone through a whole new area only to end up back at the very beginning of the game with minor exceptions (the woods leading up to yosefkas clinic but at the back end of the building). ie: getting to blighttown the standard way and ending up in valley of drakes to realize it connects to new londo which then connects to fire link. that shit made the game super immersive. blood borne was very repetitive in its short cuts and i at least predicted two shortcuts, one at every midpoint and endpoint of a zone. with that said everything else was topnotch.
My second character I ran past the scourge beast (wolf) and dodged the huntsman (man beast) then pulled the lever then dodged him again then went up the ladder and lit the lamp then went to the hunters dream then got weapons and the notebook. With my first character I am new game +. Bloodborne is amazing and my favorite game. My favorite game used to be [PROTOTYPE] then the Darkness II and now Bloodborne. The Darkness II is not nearly as good as my top three games, Bloodborne, [PROTOTYPE] and Life Is Strange.
Tried playing it last night and just like Dark Souls, it was about as enjoyable rubbing sandpaper vigorously back and forth against my leg. I flat out don't understand the appeal.
Where are the good old days when they made you play "inverted" without giving the option to change because it was the logical way a gamer would react. Just like flight controls you know pull back and you go up push forward go down it's natural.
Jay was supposed to die to the wolf I can't believe you beat that thing I've tried to beat him several times I get him down to like a quarter and that's as far as I get honestly thought he couldn't be beat
I just started playing this game myself although it's been free for a few months now but I'm really confused about the what the business practices behind making this game free there are no microtransaction for any kind of in-game purchases the only thing that you can really buy for it is the guide through Sony I am ajan I don't look for imagine that there's a DLC or something you can purchase but that doesn't hardly seem worthwhile enough to make a free unless he wants to get everybody hyped up about it again because something else is coming out in relation to it
Father Gascoigne is NOT the first boss! Cleric Beast is, and i have no clue how SHE thought so, since she's obviously played this a ton unless she meant that its the first boss for HIM

Watching Ian slowly killing the werewolf when this is supposed to be his first EVER time playing Bloodborne, made my day!
Congrats Ian from 2020!
Only Ian could spank the werewolf to death in a fight you re supposed to lose
Ian playing Bloodborne. This town's finished!
... he killed the wolf without a visceral?.. Father Gascoigne might as well hop on into one of his graves and save everyone else the time..
"Its how necks work" Inversion now actually makes a lot more sense to me now. it is still wrong but I understand it.
The second you guys said "A Sexy Vampire", i thought SEXY SEXY KATE BECKINSALE :D
SEXY SEXY KATE BECKINSALE, LOOKIN' SEXY FISTING A GIANT PIG~
Bloodborne didn't take into account Ian's mega pimp hand.
The bath messenger is so cute. Good work on the werewolf btw!
Holy crap you really paddled that wolf, I guess that's what you get when you mess with Team Eurogamer after all ... the butts fixation makes so much more sense now.

kills the wolf first try?? nice
And did it by spanking him...who knew that was the secret to success? XD
dat wolf got rekt XD my jaw dropped a bit with awe, well done Ian!
Dark souls ain't shit. Bloodborne is dope.
I'd just like to congratulate whoever set up the lighting in the new studio. Well done!
C'mon Aoife! He asks if there are grenades and you didn't tell him he already picked up a molotov!
Basically screaming at the screen every time Ian picks up an item and doesn't press "X" immediately!
OCD going crazy!
*Ahem* Between 6:17 and 7:42, the legendary spanking-the-werewolf incident!! This never gets old; so good that I watched it twice in one night. X-D

After the dark souls let’s play, this has got to be next for Aoife and Johnny
Hey, isn't that the save couch from Ico?
Use your switchy switchy to (a) unlock your fastest combos (R1 > L1 > R1 > R1 > L1) (b) Make use of the hard knockdown in long-axe's charge R2...it has hyper armor (so you can't get hit out of it), AOE, and knocks almost anything on the floor for easy okizeme

1:07:50 Boulder Dash!
Just started this having put off playing it too. This is helping my initial clueless playthrough too!
I refuse to believe it's Ian's first time after destroying the wolf so easily. He knew to strafe it and stick behind it like a veteran player. If it's his first time, he's gonna be the best at these games.
I didn’t know there was a “no items under the trees” alarm in this game. Brilliant, I want to play it now!
I never thought about how your neck moves when looking up and down...
Well done to Ian for getting a Goldie Lookin’ Chain reference into a Bloodborne video.
6:17 Mastered Ultra Instinct Ian.
Always be circle strafing.
So. I'm 29 minutes in and Ian has not transformed his trick weapon even once. Did you guys forget that was a thing?
Ian, you did really well! great video, guys
My one regret is that Johnny isn't here to shout "Beast! Foul beast!" as he so clearly loves doing over in the Dark Souls run.
This was greatly entertaining, you two could easily make this into a great series.
I came for the Bloodborne, but I stayed for the spirited defense of Y-Axis inversion.
Has anyone mentioned that the axe transforms?
Aoife did when Ian was choosing his weapons, but not much was explained about the possible benefits.
Checking this out after it was recommended in the live-stream.
For the love of God show him how to equip pebbles and molotovs!!!!
Oh I can't wait for this ! She's called Sadako in the original.
"What if I. ...
(*bang*...8 dmg)
shoot him in the back ..."
"Oh God."
I love how Aoife remembers the path to the Pig’s butt perfectly, but have no idea that shortcut to the lantern is right around the corner
I went to Yharnam - as a bit of light relief after Los Higos.
Is it just me or do the guys with guns look like an undead Slash?
That really was a paddlin’
This is gonna be good
Hey! Really loving all your vids so far! Can you guys do a Katamari Late to the Party? I would love to see how you get on with that.
Grant us eyes! Grant us eyes!
I just started playing this tonight, helpful to get a few pointers. 'tis quite obtuse in the beginning. Also hats off to Ian for spanking that first wolf, it et me in two eats.
Bloody hell, good work Higton! It took me sodding ages to get to Father Gasgoine.
Oh my god he actually killed the wolf
Rolling through barrels would literally be a Barrel Roll lol, Star Fox anyone? lol
No es tan tarde, yo recién lo juego en pleno 2020 xd
The durtle of dark souls kills the "supposed to lose" fight with his bare hands first try! Someone has been "gitting gud".
Bark Souls is looking good.
Invert Y Gang! The way games are meant to be played, indeed.
I just stoped the video when He spanked to death that werewolf, is he Jesus?
Ian laid his holy hand (many times) on that werewolf's ass.
I'm an inverter, too...
I am as well but only in first person games, where you directly control the character's view rather than a camera.
is it just me or is Ian better than Johnny and Aoife at these games?
He grew up playing stupid hard games. Aoife and johnny played simple things like resident evil and crash bandicoot
WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID IAN SURVIVE THAT FIRST WEREWOLF
THE POWER OF A DAMN GOOD SPANKING, THAT'S HOW!
I feel like I can never kinkshame again now
1st try he beats the wolf? I need to git guuder.
Aoife saying "Hiyyaa" doesn't feel the same without Johnny joining in... :/
Oh yes, I'm gonna enjoy this one.
"i don't keep an eye on my stamina enough" if that means"i'm blind as a bat " then yes.
The town is rough. I allways play Souls games with a shield. I feel naked without it and get clusterf'd. lol
I just started this game. You definitely feel more vulnerable, but hopefully I can get used to it.
I'm with Ian here - inverted look is the way to go. That IS how necks work.
what?are you an alien or something?if i turn my head left i'm looking left.
x-axis i leave alone. y-axis i invert. up/down gets inverted. left/right stays the same.
Joe Curran I do this as well, it's just comes natural to me. I can handle inverting x as well but yeah.
I've always assumed my preference for inverted controls comes from playing flight sims decades ago. Pulling the joystick back makes the plane go up, and afterwards that mechanic just felt right on other 3D games.
Ian Higton, games media's idiot savant.
Woot woot! Team inverted! Screw all you strange people and your "normal" camera controls.
It's been a long time since joysticks were a common PC peripheral, they've kind of fallen of favour which may be why people don't us "inverted people" XD
Ah, my bad! I'm glad they're making a bit of a come back :D
Yeah, those of us that played a lot of flight and air combat sims with flight sticks will always prefer inverted. Literally the only way to fly :)
Ian's explanation is the first time I've ever understood why people like inverted camera.
That’s what you get for messing with one-quarter of Team Eurogamer!

he look liks a thin version of Bryan Cranston
He killed the werewolf.....By spanking him.....
You just ruined the game for me
Very late, i was late as well, i beat it though! Alone
When u play bloodborne youre still a human afterall
bloodborne is great and definitely a notch above dks3 in terms of map design but it still falls flat compared to the shortcuts and connections of dark souls 1. the shortcuts in bloodborne are ultimately limited to within their respective zones. there was never many scenarios where you realized you had gone through a whole new area only to end up back at the very beginning of the game with minor exceptions (the woods leading up to yosefkas clinic but at the back end of the building). ie: getting to blighttown the standard way and ending up in valley of drakes to realize it connects to new londo which then connects to fire link. that shit made the game super immersive. blood borne was very repetitive in its short cuts and i at least predicted two shortcuts, one at every midpoint and endpoint of a zone. with that said everything else was topnotch.

I did Dark Souls 1. Hated DS 2. Played Untitled Goose game after that. Who is with me on this?
Amazing: Aoife remembering pig butts but not the shortcut to Gascoigne. Quite telling actually. In a good and a... kind of bad way?
If nature intended games to be played inverted then inverted wouldn't be inverted it would be default.
I play inverted it all depends how you see things, like imagine you had a joystick in the back of your head you would have to press it up to look down
Better late then never.
Yep. I just started my first play through last night.
Better Late than Never! Enjoy the game :)

Smurph Ftw scrub
Hellooo :) New viewer here. I feel like the braces would just get caught on everything (door handles, claws, etc.). Does look good though.
Need a hammer try to get the boom hammer
Check out some of the speed runs that do the entire game in just over 30 mins!! 🙊
EMBRACE THE INVERT

But, but... the same tiny couch?!?!? The horror, the horror!
Also non-inverted Y-axis players are lizard people, it's a sure sign. Just sayin'...
oh my god of greatest doesn't characters at least in that werewolf he's kicking his ass nobody survives that long

Father Gascoigne is the second boss btw.
Not in this playthrough.
You bunch of misfits!
Well, Cleric Beast *is* technically optional...
I'm pretty sure the two bridge werewolves are the true first boss.
THIS IS LITERALLY BLACK MIRROR EP1
Father Gascoigne is NOT the first boss! Cleric Beast is, and i have no clue how SHE thought so, since she's obviously played this a ton
unless she meant that its the first boss for HIM

Bloodborne, the Dark Souls of PlayStation exclusives.
