      Sometimes fear of something will actually force it to happen… people often times do something that they understand could impact them socially. I’ve seen folks come out the closet and dive headfirst into depression and alienate themselves from their support group. In their own heads they think everyone abandoned them but in reality they closed everyone else out. Not saying that’s the case here but it’s so extremely common that it very well could be.

      Pro tip: the psychological research says say most children know their identify and/or orientation by the age of 5. Long before they express any sexual desire they are thinking gender and orientation-specific thoughts. A classic one is the "rescue" dream a lot of young boys have in the age 4-5 range, where they dream of rescuing a girl they like. (Again, completely non-sexual.) Gay men, for example, typically dream at that age of rescuing other boys. And trans kids who will, at some point in the future identify as straight males, are dreaming of rescuing girls they like.

    • @pointlessmike
      @pointlessmike 9 місяців тому

      @@David-iv6je Dreaming of which gender to rescue, or towards which parent your Oedipus complex exresses isn't indicative of transexuality. It's strictly about orientation. To say that a study shows something and/or something else... like that "and/or"... tells me there's no such study. You made it up. In order to have such a study at all, you'd have to ask toddlers about it, then ask them again 20 years later. And guess what, the result you get there would be perfectly true! Not because of anything fundamental about human psychology, but simply because of how primary socialization works. We knew whether we were boys or girls because practically no parent was brainwashed by libtards back then!

    • @u64770
      @u64770 Рік тому +3

      I guess I would qualify as a closed minded person. So I must ask, are you able to point to a belief that you have held, that you think is or was unquestionable by most if anyone, and changed that belief because of one of your friends, which shattered your most basic understanding of life? You are asking people to say that there is no objective reality, and yet take, or allow others to take, radical steps to change a situation (changing self and world concept, to then support that change through surgery and medical intervention). To fulfill the idea of a transition, you are asking people to accept that a child with a body that in every way known and testable (visually and genetically) is able to discern sexual identity without social or psychological influence. You are not saying, I'm a boy, but I like what the girls do, or vise versa. You are saying girls know what girls are, and boys know what boys are, and this has nothing to do with outside influence or their reaction to it. Forgeting concepts of God or religion, you are saying no one can identify what that child is except for that child, which should be possible even if that child was isolated from all senses of gender role assignments to gender identifaction. If children were treated as children only, not as boys or girls, the 3 to 10 year old could still say I'm "x" when all evidence points to not "x". But that is nearly an impossible scenario to construct. And you would need to also say society has no meaningful role to address the needs of those children based on there gender. That too seems unrealistic. Hygiene, reproductive capacity, nutritional needs, body transformation during various stages of development and the individual's vs a society's capacity to survive and flourish. Multiple areas of concern regarding the human condition are not to be considered, despite what seems to be clear evidence to the contrary. By extension, isn't that yet another arguement that suggest women are no different than men except for how the individual perceives things? I don't think that would be considered true. Then also, without artificial intervention, would the physiological life experiences of a transgender person match that one that isn't? And the idea that a hermaphrodite being assigned a gender role would be proof based on their best capacity for social integration is not uniquely different than someone who thinks, despite no physical situation deemed abnormal, they need such change.
      I suppose it is possible there is no argument I could make that would identify me as anything other than a bigot to you. But losing friends because you think they are doing something seriously wrong and would hope you can have influence to prevent them from making that perceived if not actual mistake seems at least a little bit troubling also.

      @@u64770 You don't seem bigoted to me. I can't say that I fully agree with all of the paradigms that you present here, but I think you actually sum up very well the implications (perceived or actual) that a lot of people might see, and why it might be so difficult for them to accept trans people & others' acceptance of them, even when it's your own friends supporting their own children. At the same time, though, if your own friends are unable to reconcile that you are making a decision to do what you believe is best for your own child, then maybe it's for the best to just let them go. Your relationship with your child is more important than your friends' acceptance, and you can find new friends who can offer the kind of support system that you truly need.

      @@vondernacht Have you ever met any children in reality? Kids don't cry themselves to sleep _every night, over a long period of time._ If your parenting advice is: "ignore your child's deep-seated, obvious, and long-lasting unhappiness, because they're just whiners", I pray that you don't have any actual children. Are you the kind of person that thinks clinically depressed people should just "cheer up"? Is that advice you'd give to your own depressed child? Or do you just reserve your disregard for someone's personal issues in the case of gender dysphoria specifically?
      I mean, you're not even doing that here, to be fair - you're saying this incredibly weird and callous thing to _a parent_ you know nothing about, concerning _their own child_ you similarly know nothing about. You must be quite the skilled mind-reader, if you can presume to counsel a parent, this judgmentally, this self-confidently, from a single 5-sentence post, without knowing any details about the child's behavior, or how their parent treats them or their "fleeting whims".
      It endlessly fascinates me that the same types who tell other people they have never known, nonstop, in the most aggressive and hurtful ways, how to live their own lives and raise their own children, then turn around and scream that their own rights are being trampled upon by the mere existence of these other people, and that they pose a threat to others' ability to live their lives.
      But really, let's stop beating around the bush here: you used the term "fleeting whim". Is the problem that a parent is raising their child in the way that they perceive makes their child most fulfilled and happy, and that you take issue with that? Or is it that you think transgender people don't really feel what they feel, that they have "fleeting whims", and that their own wishes, personal expression, and whole identity, should be ignored?

    Bless Jon for addressing this issue. I am a 69 year old transsexual woman who started my transition in my late thirties, early 40s. I wish I had been able to express myself to my parents but that would have been at age 4 in 1957 and I knew enough to know how society would have reacted. Unlike most of my "sisters" I was not a fem boy and I loved playing football and other male activities. I dated women and was married in 1982 to a wonderful, amazing woman. I did inform her on our third date but ultimately she was not a "lesbian". We are still close and like family and her current husband is friends with me as well. But my point is that I knew at age four, in spite of enjoying "tomboyish" activities that no one was pressuring me to pursue, that I felt like I should have been born a biological woman. As I have grown I know that all earth connected cultures, who valued the spirit as much as the physical, had a productive role for what we now call transgender. In the end we are Not Man and Not Woman and both Man and Woman at the same time. We are Mystery Beads and that is the only truth that we really know, that other "normal" folks can relate to. We are not the norm but we are normal is my mantra. The bottom line for me is that, in this very dysfunctional culture where only male and female is accepted, I did not fine any peace until I embraced the Mystery. IN this culture, having the surgery was the only way for me to find peace and to say to the skeptic this "feeling" of being a "woman trapped inside a male body" is this strong in me that I was willing to give up my male privilege (and believe me I had plenty) to go through this cultures 'rite of passage', Now they are trying to take what the medical association suggested as therapy when they could not, try as they might, make this Mystery go away! As someone who deals with gender dysphoria, I've mostly accepted that I'm definitely wired different from the other people around me who were born the same physical gender as me. And I had to kind of figure a lot of this out about myself post-high school because of the ADHD medication I was being prescribed at the time. And I still sometimes struggle with feeling embarrassed about liking girls clothes and feeling confident in what to me is a wildly new world of femininity. It's a feeling that I still don't understand why I feel this way about myself, but I certainly wouldn't be able to explore it without my loving partner and my friends. For me, I'm not asking to be prescribed drugs or have surgery because I don't feel I'm ready for that, and maybe I never will be. All I'm asking for is for someone to listen to what I feel and help me through what is a very confusing aspect of my life, just like anyone dealing with any mental needs. I just want to be able to say, "Hey, I like bad-ass ladies, and I also like feeling like a bad-ass lady!" Wanting to understand WHY you feel the way you do shouldn't be something that is mocked, but something that is celebrated, because that is how we grow, both individually and together. The trans journalists association published a “style guide” in which they claim that they do not want these topics covered often:
      “coverage of transition-related care tends to focus on the potential risks of such care, especially when it comes to young people. Journalists should cover these stories with extra thoughtfulness and not overemphasize them.“
      When the topics are covered, the same document suggests that those with concerns regarding blockers and HRT for minors are “anti trans” and have a “fringe radical agenda.”
      Interesting, right?
      These so called “activist” groups (e.g., the trans journalists association) do not want dialogue or conversations on this topic. This in spite of the fact that the countries that have done systematic reviews of the empirical evidence for puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy for minors (Finland, Sweden and the UK) have backtracked on these interventions.
      Very interesting indeed.

    I remember literally not being able to stand existing because I was female. It wasn't because I was trans. It was because of what people told me about being a woman. But under different circumstances I might have misunderstood those feelings as meaning I'm trans. If someone mistakenly believes they're trans and they go to therapy to figure out why they feel the way they do they'll find out they're they're not really trans. But if a child who mistakenly believes they're trans has parents and a therapist that just " Believes the child is who they say they are." there is no one to help them figure out they aren't really trans.
    Maybe these two children are trans. I don't feel the need to prove whether anyone is trans or not. I just want people to take their to child to a therapist that will actually do they're job so the can know if they're actually trans. I want people to realize if you're just gender non-conforming you don't need to change pronouns or get any hormones or surgery. You can just be as gender non confirming as you want without transitioning in any way. If you really are trans and aren't just traditional masculine or feminine going to therapy to figure that out isn't harmful or damaging to who you. It's allowing you avoid harm by actually figuring out if this is who you are.
    You shouldn't just unquestionably accept what the doctor tells you about gender affirming care. If you or you child has gender dysphoria you need to do actual research. Saying that medical associations support it isn't research. It's an appeal to authority logical fallacy. You need to not just accept unquestionably what an article or survey says. You need to critically read scientific studies.

    I expected this video would answer some of my questions, now i'm more confused than when i started. How could a child of 3-4 years of age even grasp the fundamental idea of what it means to be a boy or a girl? How would they understand if something was "incorrect?" When you're that young, you don't see yourself as anything, you are you. Labels and their implications only really come in a ways down the road ie around puberty/ teenager years. The only possible way they would come to that conclusion when they're THAT young would be an outside source influencing them into thinking that something must be inherently wrong with them.

    From the ages of between 6-7 years old I understood that I wanted to be female. How I expressed it when I was 10-12 years old was through dressing up feminine in video games and at 12-14 years sneaking into my mother's closet. I was still a young kid who didn't fully understand it wasn't wrong in anyway to do that. I also was a huge homophobe and transphobe at 12 years old. But I can't really be blamed for that 100% because I was still a little kid. Around 15 is when I understood myself to be trans. I also thought I was Bisexual at 13. It really irritates me to see how people say that trans kids are invalid. Because I'm pretty sure wishing to be female, acting feminine in private and sneaking into your mother's closet isn't something a cis 12 year old would do. I do think to access these medications you should be required to receive counseling and understand what potential side effects which could come with these medications. It's ridiculous. Any age can develop mental illnesses and depending on the condition and age I see no issue with prescribing them the appropriate medication. HRT and hormone blockers have helped save hundreds possibly thousands of trans kids and adults.
    Lawmakers who have no medical experience should not get the right to make these laws. I could understand prohibiting HRT and Blockers for a trans 10 year old. But I would like to add this on. Most people under 18 who pursue these treatments have already undergone puberty as their biological sex. Some who get on this medication are post puberty. Some are 15 or 16. Very rarely will it be a 12 year old who seeks these treatments. So long as they are monitored and understand the effects, then why is GAC a bad thing? It doesn't make sense.

    So I will buck the trend here . What an adult decides for themselves is completely up to them.
    We don't let children decide anything for themselves of substance. If you have a child making a claim about feeling like a gender, different than their biological gender . I really don't see a problem with providing the mental support both from family and friends as well as well professional psychologists to provide neutral support appropriate to the individual needs . Interfering with a child medically is ridiculous. We wouldn't let a 5 year old decide their diet never mind decide on physical medical interventions.
    I never could understand why supporting a person's gender choice as a child and teen requires medical intervention. By all means let them dress and act within the gender they are most confortable. If you need to use different pronouns, ect be supportive , without being guiding .
    If you feel like a certain gender then I don't understand why you can't run with that without altering your biology.
    Let's get people to adulthood and then whatever physical medical changes they want to make . I have no issue with it.

    • @wiema1555
      @wiema1555 Рік тому +2

      For the 5 year old, social transitioning will be enough (like the things you mentioned: cloths, pronounce, etc.), no medication needed. But once you get close to puberty and the body starts to develop, feelings of gender dysphoria might increase. Therefore professionals might decide to put them on hormone blockers (witch are reversible) to put puberty on pause. The prescription of actual hormones doesn’t get relevant until the teen years. A lot of kids go through years and years of gender care until hormone treatment is even considered.

    • @troyzieman7177

      @@wiema1555 First let me address the calibre of your comments . No insults or name calling or condescension.
      So no matter where else we may disagree on this topic . I wish to say thankyou .
      A few thoughts. So let's take pre puberty example , 12 years old , roughly . Would we let that person decide they were ready for safe sex ? How about entering into the contractual arrangement of getting a credit card ? How about a tattoo?
      We don't take kids too seriously in their ability to assess their desires and the consequences there of . For good reason.
      That is why we have an age of majority before we generally allow binding and non biding decisions.
      If someone is struggling with their gender identity. It seems too me our position should be one of support but not undue influence . I am concerned that declaring yourself uncertain , or asserting the opposite gender has become the fast track to allot of attention , that children at that age are quite susceptible too.
      Don't get me wrong I am not saying that gender dysphoria doesn't exsist . It seems to have exponentially grown in the last few years.
      Finally , if this condition is just a natural off shoot of human possibilities. That is, a percentage of people have always been this way throughout history . Why does is it require medical intervention to be affirmed ? It seems to me that if this is who you are , the full acceptance of that should be the key component. It is a psychological condition not a physical one .
      What an adult does , as long as it doesn't interfere with my rights and freedom of choice is ok by me .
      Kids by their very nature are in constant change . Even ideas that are maintained all through childhood and teenage years can be discarded or reaffirmed once you obtain some new experiences and maturity .

      @wiema1555 Рік тому +3

      @@troyzieman7177 Thank you for your response. About the decision making part: The child doesn’t take the decision to transition on their own (that would indeed be irresponsible). That’s why trans-kids need to see professionals, who carefully access what kind of treatment would be right for them. I get that a lot of people are concerned that trans-kids might regret transitioning. There is unfortunately never a 100% certainty that they won’t regret it. But the number of detransitioners is extremely low. It would be very tragic to deny a trans kid the care that they need just because of that risk. If waiting until adulthood for the transition wouldn’t have any negative side effects, that would be great. But if we wait until then, gender affirming care will be much harder and the body will have changed in ways that are difficult or impossible to reverse. And we know that transitioning improves the overall life quality. A lot of trans people have tried to accept their body, but that didn’t work for them. You can’t really change your brain and the attempt would be even dangerous (conversion therapy). Gender identity develops very early on in life and it is not something that we decide.
      And I would like to address the growth of the trans community: I actually don’t think there are more trans people. People are just less scared to come out, so more people are openly trans and therefore more visible. Think about the influx in left-handed people after writing with your right hand wasn’t discouraged anymore. There were not actually more left-handed people, they just were allowed to be who they are. The same way trans people are now allowed to be who they are (even if there is a lot of work to do)

      A child may be born shorter than what they might they feel is comfortable for them. Their desire to be taller doesn't have a physical solution you find solice and peace in other aspects of life .
      The consultation of experts to address the physiological aspects of gender dysphoria makes sense to me . The desire to take a normal healthy biological gender and mutate it from its natural course does not seem rational too me .
      All the medicines and surgery in the world cannot change your biological gender . You are simply masking a reality about yourself that is unalterable. If it is true that your claim that a persons brain has the gender it has , and any attempt to alter that is impossible or denial of truth . It would also stand to reason that a biological reality is also unalterable , it is also true and unchangeable.

      @@troyzieman7177 I don’t think the goal is to get the same body as a cis-person, of course there are limitations. But the body is the thing (or one of the things) that causes the gender-dysphoria. And there is also so many things attached to that, think about social transitioning, people are still gonna perceive you as the gender you were assigned to at birth and are not gonna “see” your real gender, which is then gonna make you dysphoric again. It is also important to note, that not every trans-person feels dysphoric about the same things or feels the same amount of dysphoria, so the need for medical intervention can alter from person to person. I think the gender-dysphoria part is especially hard to understand for us cis-people, because we simply have the privilege to not have it. Because gender-identity is something so deeply ingrained in our self it is difficult to compare it to dissatisfaction we might feel about certain parts about our body (like wishing to be shorter). Many trans people have expressed how absolutely necessary their transition was for them, and they wouldn’t have survived otherwise. The conversation on the trans-matter is often held without including trans-people and sometimes it is forgotten that they are the experts about their own experiences who know what is best for them.

But calling a biological man that transitions into a woman a trans women would imply they are on the other side of or across from a woman which would mean they are actually still identifying as male which is biologically true, yet I don’t think that’s the terminology they should’ve adopted if they truly want to claim they are women too. Replacing gender with man or woman has a different meaning altogether when you have “ trans” in front of it.

    This immediately made me tear up. I cannot imagine having to change your mind about something that you know everyone will shun you and your child for and potentially hate and having the bravery to go through with it.

    I have to wonder how much of the depression and suicide we hear about comes from a lack of acceptance and understanding from people close to these kids, let alone the state, rather than from the "dysphoria" itself. It starts with parents. If a young person feels a certain way and is consistently discouraged from feeling that way, or shamed for feeling that way, or worse, especially from parents, I'm pretty sure that's the effect that will be most devastating.

      Family acceptance cuts the depression rate by nearly half, although that is usually in addition to affirming care. Still, if you looked in the mirror every day and saw a stranger and never felt like yourself (dysphoria) you still wouldn't be happy.

      The way parents treat their children is extra important, because American kids seem to be very restricted in their movement. Dutch kids can easily roam around at a young age and get some independence. When you're confined to the house and car, with parents that don't accept you, that's like prison. ua-cam.com/video/oHlpmxLTxpw/v-deo.html Not Just Bikes on raising happy kids.

      So rather than going about to try to make them accept themselves for what they are it is better for them to go along with their delusion, mutilate their bodies and give them a lifetime of physical suffering, resulting in their sterilization, and giving their parents and then they themselves thousands upon thousands of dollars of medical bills for life so that the doctors and hospitals profit off of their suffering? If a person is confused you straighten them out with truth and help them to understand, you love, honor, cherish, and respect them through the truth, not through capitulation to delusion and lies! It is not loving to someone to play to their confusion and destroy them! Many more people who have so called transitioned have committed suicide than those who were denied the transition! Satan is the author of confusion! Truth is truth, and EVERYTHING else is a LIE!

      No adult, no doctor, can possibly ethically make that decision for a child. This is strictly an individuals decision that can only be safely made when they child becomes an adult and has the mental capacity to understand the complete ramifications of these medical decisions. I think deep down you all know it too but it's easier to cave to all the extraneous details.

    As someone who wants to always err on the side of compassion, a sincere question: Why and how can we trust kids with making irreversible life-altering decisions that come with serious surgery before the age of 18? Why do we deny children under 18 the right to make choices about so many similarly permanent procedures?

    • @uwumachine
      @uwumachine Рік тому +2

      There’s a misunderstanding here that’s rehearsed a lot.
      No ten year old is able to walk into their primary physicians office and ask for a 5mL vial of estradiol valerate and a 3 month supply of testosterone blockers. Before children have access to any affirming care, they are often intensively screened by professionals for sometimes years before they even get to touch puberty blockers (still reversible), let alone hormones or surgeries.
      These processes are intensive and while, yes, there are anecdotal situations of doctors rushing this process for vulnerable people, the majority of times this is not the case.
      When we stop trusting our professionals, and would rather lean on politicians who wrongfully lead us to thinking we have a choice in these families’ lives, we damage them and replace their credibility with our own enthusiasm. ‘Let kids be kids’ needs to be recycled back at the adults who use them as pawns for their own conservative beliefs against the trans community, the doctors, the educators and the families that love these people.

    Trans kids know what they are at very early ages. Because it is not about sexual attraction, gender dysphoria is about the expression of the self at the most fundamental level. The questions, “Who am I, what am I?” You can see it when you witness your baby notice their hands and realize that hand is their hand. That discovery of selfhood, like when I was 3, I remember smelling a yellow rose and realizing what my nose was for.
