But the question of the day is: If I replace the front collision warning sensor, will the MALFUNCTION error and light go away? Or do I still have to go to Nissan where they want to charge me $2000 to "calibrate it?"
@@Airtouch67 Replacing the front collision warning sensor might resolve the MALFUNCTION error and light, but it's not guaranteed. The vehicle's system often requires calibration after sensor replacement to ensure accurate functionality. This calibration process typically involves specialized equipment and software that most dealerships possess. Update.after no contact from the dealer, I went there myself. And then told it's waiting for a part..What part I asked and was told , A forward lane sensor unit , the one in the windscreen.. I was told to expect the part next week..We shall see if it's this what's causing the problem. I still think it's the forward sensor behind the front Nisson badge..as both warning lights come on. And before I took the car to the dealers I had switched off the lane sensor and I still got the collision light on the dash
@sxythe1734 If your BMW is displaying a notification that the Collision Warning System is deactivated after a few minutes of running, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some steps to diagnose and possibly fix the issue: 👉 Check for Obstructions: Ensure that the sensors and cameras related to the collision warning system are clean and unobstructed. Dirt, snow, or debris can block the sensors, leading to deactivation. 👉 Battery Voltage: Low battery voltage can cause various systems in your car to malfunction. Have your battery checked to ensure it is in good condition and properly charged. 👉 Software Update: Sometimes, a software update can resolve issues related to the car’s electronic systems. Check if there are any updates available for your car’s software and have them installed by a professional. 👉 System Reset: Try resetting the collision warning system. This can sometimes be done through the vehicle’s settings menu or by disconnecting the car battery for a few minutes (ensure you know your radio and other electronic settings before doing this, as they may be reset). 👉 Check for Recalls or Service Bulletins: Occasionally, manufacturers issue recalls or service bulletins for known issues. Check with your BMW dealer to see if there are any such notices for your vehicle. Addressing the issue promptly is important for ensuring your safety and the proper functioning of your vehicle’s safety systems.
I’m going to try some of these tips out. The system works great for 10 of the first driving minutes but after 15 minutes the light comes on and the automatic braking is disabled
@ecoboostedfuze If the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) light turns on and the system disables after some time of driving, it could indicate a few potential issues: 👉 Sensor Blockage or Malfunction: The FCW system relies on sensors (often located at the front of the vehicle) to detect obstacles. If these sensors become blocked by dirt, debris, or snow, or if they malfunction, the system might initially work but fail as you drive. Checking and cleaning the sensors might resolve the issue. 👉 Overheating Sensors: In some cases, sensors might overheat, especially after prolonged use of the car. This could temporarily impair their function until they cool down. 👉 Electrical Issues: Fluctuations or faults in the vehicle’s electrical system could cause intermittent failures. This might be due to loose connections, aging wiring, or problems with the car’s onboard computer. 👉 Software Glitch: The system's software may have a glitch that causes it to shut down after a certain period of operation. A software update from the dealership could potentially fix this.
@connerthomas3840 don't worry about the "blinker fluid"-that’s a bit of a joke! Cars don’t actually have blinker fluid; it's a humorous term sometimes used in automotive circles. If you’re experiencing warning lights, here are some real things to check: Forward Collision Warning System: This light can come on if there's an issue with the sensors, possibly caused by dirt or obstructions on the front of the car. Give the sensors a gentle clean and see if the light resets.

Would disconnecting the fuse and just driving the car cause the fcw malfuntion light to go away? Or will it always be on if i unplug the fuse ? @@Dashboardwarninglights
@@killertofu Disconnecting the fuse will not make the FCW malfunction light go away. In fact, it will likely cause the light to stay on or trigger additional warnings. The vehicle's onboard computer will detect the loss of power to the FCW system and register it as a fault, keeping the warning light illuminated. To resolve the issue properly, you should change the fuse if it is faulty.
@Dashboardwarninglights the problem is my sensor is broke. I need to replace but I can't find he part anywhere or what it looks like. Do you by chance have a link to show what it looks like and where it's located on the car so I can buy a replacement
@jonitaite6800 Forward sensors are typically located at the front of a vehicle or machine and include various technologies such as radar, lidar, ultrasonic, and cameras. They are usually positioned in strategic locations like: Front Bumper: Common placement for radar and ultrasonic sensors for detecting obstacles and assisting in parking. Grille: Often houses radar sensors to aid in adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance. Windshield: Camera sensors for lane-keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition, and forward collision warning. Side Mirrors: Can contain cameras or sensors to cover blind spots and provide additional forward-looking coverage. Front Fenders: Sometimes used for side-facing sensors that still have a forward-looking component for detecting cross-traffic. These placements ensure that the sensors can effectively monitor the area in front of the vehicle or equipment to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

Use an OBD-II scanner to pull any specific error codes related to the collision and lane assist systems. This can provide more detailed information about what might be causing the malfunction. Some auto parts stores offer free scanning services, or you can purchase a scanner yourself.
👉 6. Investigate Warranty or Recall Options
Check if your vehicle is still under warranty or if there have been any recalls related to the collision and lane assist systems. If the issue is covered, the repair might be done at no cost to you.
👉 7. Consider Aftermarket Repair Options
If the camera does need to be replaced, you might explore aftermarket parts or a refurbished camera, which could be more affordable than the $2,500 quoted by Nissan. Just ensure that any aftermarket part is compatible with your vehicle and installed by a professional.
👉 8. Understand the Cost
If you do need to replace the camera, ask the dealership to explain why it’s necessary and what the costs include. Sometimes a breakdown of the costs (parts, labor, etc.) might help you negotiate or find a more cost-effective solution.
While the malfunction could indeed require a camera replacement, it’s crucial to explore these options first to ensure that the issue is correctly diagnosed and that you’re not overpaying for the repair.
❤ I hope you can fix it quick and that there is nothing more serious.

Would this be activated if you LKA camera/sensor was stolen or removed?
@rustyshackleford4876
The forward collision warning system typically relies on sensors located in the front of the vehicle, separate from the lane-keeping assist (LKA) camera/sensor. While removing the LKA camera/sensor might affect other safety features like lane departure warning, it shouldn't directly trigger the forward collision warning light. However, it's best to consult your vehicle's manual or a mechanic for specific information about your car's system.

@@Dashboardwarninglights thanks
But the question of the day is: If I replace the front collision warning sensor, will the MALFUNCTION error and light go away? Or do I still have to go to Nissan where they want to charge me $2000 to "calibrate it?"
@@Airtouch67 Replacing the front collision warning sensor might resolve the MALFUNCTION error and light, but it's not guaranteed. The vehicle's system often requires calibration after sensor replacement to ensure accurate functionality. This calibration process typically involves specialized equipment and software that most dealerships possess. Therefore, it's likely you would still need to visit Nissan or a qualified technician to calibrate the sensor properly. This ensures that the system works correctly and safely.
@@Dashboardwarninglights Well I bought my Rogue brand new and honestly it's NEVER worked correctly. So basically it sounds like replacing the sensor is a waste of time. Nissan has this programmed so that you have to take it to them anyway.. $2000.00 for a part that costs $50 bucks on e-bay. Never buying a Nissan again. Lesson learned here. Apparently MILLIONS of Nissan owners get this Malfunction error, and Nissan is doing absolutely nothing to help resolve the issue.
I have a 2019 His son Leaf.
My lane departure light and collision warning light come on together.
It's under a warranty with the Main dealer. Twice now I have picked the car up and told multi fault codes have been cleared and it's ok to go.But after driving for around two miles the problem returns.
So it's back with them for a third time. I have take photos of the dash, because when you switch off the problem cleares..Getting fed up of being fobbed off now.
I asked about a faulty sensor, but was told the sensors are ok...
@GaryRobinson-sm8tz Since the problem persists even after the dealer has supposedly cleared fault codes, it's important to keep pressing them for a proper solution. Your idea about a faulty sensor could still be valid, even if they've told you the sensors are okay. Don't hesitate to ask for a thorough inspection and perhaps even request a second opinion if necessary. Your persistence will hopefully lead to a resolution.
Thanks for your prompt reply..Car has now been sitting at the dealers, for three days and not moved as I have a tracking on it..I have a fourth car but not fit for purpose as I can not get my sites mobility scooter in the boot..I now await a call and see what they have done..
That's ment to read a Hired car.
We wait ...
When i start my bmw for 4 minutes it says nothing and then i get a notification that my Collision Warning System is deactivated
@sxythe1734 If your BMW is displaying a notification that the Collision Warning System is deactivated after a few minutes of running, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some steps to diagnose and possibly fix the issue:
👉 Check for Obstructions: Ensure that the sensors and cameras related to the collision warning system are clean and unobstructed.
@ecoboostedfuze
If the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) light turns on and the system disables after some time of driving, it could indicate a few potential issues:
👉 Sensor Blockage or Malfunction: The FCW system relies on sensors (often located at the front of the vehicle) to detect obstacles.
The blinker fluid is low
@connerthomas3840 don't worry about the "blinker fluid"-that’s a bit of a joke! Cars don’t actually have blinker fluid; it's a humorous term sometimes used in automotive circles.
If you’re experiencing warning lights, here are some real things to check:
Forward Collision Warning System: This light can come on if there's an issue with the sensors, possibly caused by dirt or obstructions on the front of the car. Give the sensors a gentle clean and see if the light resets.
Can i just discconnect the fuse and not use it ?
My brother wanted to reset the code for me by disconnecting the battery. And hook it back up. I would not let him. That would ruin any warranty I have! Even though I trying fight mine. But I think it’s dangerous in rain etc! Who knows! Dealership acted like it would be!
@sherrid5315 Right
Would disconnecting the fuse and just driving the car cause the fcw malfuntion light to go away?
Where are the forward sensors?
@jonitaite6800 Forward sensors are typically located at the front of a vehicle or machine and include various technologies such as radar, lidar, ultrasonic, and cameras. They are usually positioned in strategic locations like:
Front Bumper: Common placement for radar and ultrasonic sensors for detecting obstacles and assisting in parking.
Just change or charge your battery easy fix
I clean the camera....and start the car...symbol was not on dashboard😊
@user-ck5kp9dn3k I talked about this video in Steps
Since you cleaned the camera and the light is no longer on, it suggests that the system is back to normal operation 👍
