    I’m on my second Frontier with the 3.8 engine nine speed. Besides being slow to shift from first to second in manual mode and because first gear is so short, I have no issues with the nine speed. Mine almost always leaves a stop in second gear unless I’m leaning into from a stop. Downshifts when I want it to. Upshifts early when using light throttle. Downshifts multiple gears when you goose it. I have no qualms with the nine speed. On another note my 2024 gets better gas mileage than my 2020 did despite the 2024 being heavier and shaped like a brick in the front. I’m confidently sold on Frontiers as a former Tacoma owner.

      Exactly! Not saying I regret buying the truck by any means. But anyone who isn’t admitting these transmissions shift terribly is just denying reality. It’s impossible for me not to notice it every time I drive.

    Commenting late to the party but I’m actually going to look at a 2023 Frontier tomorrow (now mid March 24). I’m glad you gave a thorough review that a normal human being would give to his neighbor instead of these absurd off road bizarre and completely impractical reviews I see other people do, as well as always reviewing some type of $70,000 vehicle which is never going to happen for me.
    I will disagree about one point and that is the body designs remaining the same. My uncle was a tool and die maker for years at Ford back in the day of the 351 Cleveland and he has been passed away for many years, but I always remember him saying the reason that cars do not have quality is every model year they completely change everything and cars would be way more reliable if they would leave, the major components untouched and keep refining them instead of trying to make works of art for doctors wife to drive.
    I also work on air traffic control electronics and you don’t have a lot of problem out of your 1970s technology except for getting the parts, you get the problems when everything goes to software and there’s always glitches that need constantly to be updated. There’s something to the old saying,,, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

      @@TheAdamConners See that’s the things that I would have to have and my wife works for Nissan here in Tennessee and I’m debating but man it’s a hard choice. My Titan is a SV but it’s got the Rockford system in it, step rails on the side, 20’ wheels etc. It isn’t all that but I love it and it’s mine and paid for. So I’m debating because with all the upgrades I would want on the frontier it would make it unobtainable as far as $$$ I believe. My wife gets a good discount so we will see what they come back with. They want my Titan super bad which is making me think even more. Makes me think that they know something I don’t. If that makes sense!

    It’s true about the transmissions, my 2021 F150 has a 10 speed in it. I’d say 99% of the time it’s smooth. It does have a hard up shift or a hard downshift occasionally but it’s very sporadic that it happens.
    My 2016 Silverado did the same thing, 99% of the time it was smooth and then occasionally it would do a hard downshift, it was very sporadic.

All the “clunking” I described and pointed out is just normal shifting for these transmissions. We also chatted up about our Honda builds so I trust he knows his stuff. thanks for the review

    • @TheAdamConners
      @TheAdamConners  9 місяців тому

      That sort of works. You cannot override the computer though. So if I start out in 1 I can “shift” it as I please. But the computer will take over if I senses too low of an rpm. Sometimes it will even stay in a gear even if you switch to “manual” and make it shift. I’ve been going up a hill at 3.5k rpms in 5th and tried manually shift 100 times and it won’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@tonyc5907 I have no concerns about the engine. Staying on top of oil changes should get you well past 200 K on most motors nowadays. But I’m not a big fan of Mercedes and they apparently make the transmissions. The tech that checked out mine said Mercedes transmissions are in several different vehicles. They are kind of behind all this 9 speed and 10 speed crap. So not really sure what to expect there, but hard not to think issues will arise there before the engine. But that’s just my assumption.

    What Nissan doesn’t tell customers is that the Glacier White version’s bumper is more cream/off white and super noticeable in the sun. Look at the hood and the grill area for an obvious picture of the manufacturing flaw. I took my Frontier (155 miles or so) to the dealership to have them address it through my warranty. The DIRECTOR of the service and parts department stated that it’s more of a “condition” than an actual defect.
    Shame on Nissan.

    • @TheAdamConners
      @TheAdamConners  Рік тому +1

      That sounds very irritating. It’s not like you’re asking for a new motor or something. If the color is visibly off, then they should just put a new bumper cover on it. That’s pretty cheap all things considered.

    Surprised to hear your comments about the transmission. I've watched at least 100 reviews of the new Frontier and I've never heard a complaint about the transmission, most owners seem to love it. Yours may actually have a problem.

    • @TheAdamConners
      @TheAdamConners  Рік тому

      I wish that were true. I had a Nissan technician drive it and I rode along with him. I explained all the issues like it constantly wanting to downshift into a lower gear instead of coast, clunky shifts into 2nd or 3rd, etc. He said it’s all normal. That’s my complaint in the review. It’s not a specific thing with my truck, it’s just the nature of the beast with a 9 speed I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@Blue-moon12 I picked up a 2023 Pro4X a few weeks ago and this is definitely true. I wouldn't necessarily call it a defect, but it is really stupid shift programming. Funny enough, silly transmission behavior is one of the reasons I got rid of the Tacoma I had before. Don't get me wrong, I have no regrets with the Pro4X, it's 10x better than the Tacoma, in my opinion. Still, I wish Nissan would reprogram this thing to make it less annoying on my highway commute.

    Complaining about washing the wheels? REALLY. Get a round brush and live with it, but that is something that is rather obvious upon purchase.The New-new, is that a GA word of just a simple expression? There is NO speaker inside that area that on the Pro-4X is in orange. Hating the orange trim is a good way to reason why you did not want to spend the extra money. MY Sirius/XM is only $16 a month for just music. You have a lemon. My trans is ten times smoother at shifting than any of my GM trucks, or Ford trucks I have driven or Hyundai 8-speed trans. And I travel mountains that prove you live in foot HILLS. For one, the Teton pass....try that one on for size.
    Another video from an ill-informed purchaser who did not do his homework, did not due a test drive in the tiny hills and just wants to produce a video to complain and to show how sad he is in not researching or paying extra for some features he wanted, but after the sale.
