As a Japanese speaker (second language), I can confirm that yes, Shirabe Jisho is _extremely_ useful. It’s a phrase book that has just about everything you need as a quick, go-to reference point.

Two amazing people on opposite sides of the globe are German and Japanese, with deep roots in history and culture. I an currently studying Deutsch via Duolingo and would be happy to learn Japanese but i think its alphabets and structure us not easily taught via an app.

When you really think about it, when you learn a language you should follow the same principle as that of native children learning it. They don't start reading or writing before they are already speaking. For me it was so much easier to learn kanji and reading when I already had a decent grasp on the spoken language.
I feel like Nihongo con Teppei is more challending than the Japanese with Shun podcast. Somehow many people feel differently about that and I feel kinda gaslighted 😅 Aside from that I also prefer the Sayuri Saying Everyday Japanese over the Yuyu podcast. It's so interesting to me how impressions of what's helpful to learners varies that much

As guy from Egypt who started learning Japanese 2 months ago and i was struggling at the beginning because these text books and practice sheets aren't supported nor available in my country, nevertheless, I found this video quite helpful and efficient way of learning. Gained my respect .👍🏻
I didn't use them and I learned just fine. Spending all day doing grammar drills is not as useful as actually watching Japanese media and seeing the grammar being used by real people.

As someone who is fluent in Japanese, Duolingo does not do a good job at explaining grammar or pronunciation. I recommend Migaku Learn much more as it's a handmade course with high quality grammar and culture explanations.

I have heard Textbooks are not the best because they often teach unnatural and robotic sounding Japanese which is unlike what Native speakers use in their day to day lives.
It's true. The best way to use textbooks is to focus on learning the grammar concepts then watching real Japanese media and UA-cam videos to see how real Japanese people speak. Don't waste much time memorizing textbook sentences or doing grammar drills.
