This scene actually was not part of the original movie script. But one day Bing and Danny were fooling around on the stage with the props and singing this song, and the director liked it so much that he had it put into the movie. And it's a good thing, because it's a really funny scene!
Crosby said he thought this scene would be reshot because Kaye improvised so much that he couldn't stop laughing. But the director loved it so much they decided to go with this version.
Cool, thank you didn't know that. I sent a copy or whatever u call it these days to my sister's. It got me thru this terrible Covid Christmas since I couldn't be with my girls.
I just love the ending when they're laughing. The director said this was the best of the takes since they were laughing so hard through most of them they couldn't even finish. Classic!
I think it works well. The character that Bing plays didn't want to do this, but because he couldn't stop laughing it kind of make it look like he did have fun doing it. So it works.
Bing was always the professional in all his works, while Danny appeared to adlib everything he did, so to see Bing actually break loose in this scene was a delight, thanks to Danny.
Yeah Danny had a lot of fun with this scene. This was actually one of the times when he just went all out and Bing lost his cool. You'd think they wouldn't have but I'm so glad it's the one they chose for the final cut.
Yeah, it was improv. Danny Kaye just decided to do it in this scene and Bing Crosby didn't expect it which is why its freaking classic. I love this scene in this movie its really funny.
Bing is obviously making actual mistakes in his lip-synching, but that works perfectly because in the plot, they do this so that the actual Haynes Sisters can make a getaway from the club, because their former landlord has falsely claimed they owe him money and he's brought the sheriff to arrest them. Bing and Danny would hardly have had time to rehearse this, so Bing not knowing the words correctly fits with the circumstances.
+hebneh if you have seen the movie they saw the girls and they were staring at there eyes the whole time and having an argument so they weren't paying attention to the words
IKR!!! I like the part at the beginning where Bing Crosby's character is all like "I'm going to murder you in your sleep" XD and when the other guy keeps hitting him in the gut with the fan and you can hear bing Crosby gasp every time, but the part where bing Crosby laughs at the end is the icing on top of the cake XD
Bing was uncomfortable with this scene and wasn't performing well, so Michael Curtiz told Danny Kaye to ham it up in this take. Bing broke up and Curtiz used this take.
Crosby's laughter and Kaye's giggle at the end are what really get me. The whole bit is great and I love this was improvised but it's just that laught at the end.
I read somewhere that the final sequence, where DK keeps hitting Bing with the fan was almost cut. But they liked how Bing was candidly cracking up . . . so they kept it! Great fun scene!!
Wow, to be 13 again! Ask older people like grandparents, what their fave movies are. There are lots of classics that are 100, 80, 70, 50 years old. Even your folks would have recent classic movies. It's ❤ warming to hear a young teen say that this is a fave movie. Keep your open mind & you'll experience some fabulous "old" things. From a creaky, old lady!!👵🏿👵🏻👴🏽👴
No matter how many times I watch this scene … it makes me smile and giggle Danny Kaye is living in the moment and making Bing cracking up for real, are priceless. Those real laughs and giggles are making it the best scene lol and thank you director for keeping this version in the movie. Then towards the end , Bing really pulled hard Danny out of the stage area too.😂.Reminded of a play I was and I told my partner in the scene to really pull me lol
I physically cannot watch this too many times. We just got the movie on DVD and I'm so excited!!!! But anyway I just love their faces the whole time; Bing basically has the look of "They don't pay me enough to do this crap." But Danny is more like "Yes! I get to be weird in front of everyone!!!" My kinda guy. XD ~:~
I think anyone who wanted to be in Show Business in any capacity after the release of this Classic Film should have to view can not view this film. Even the Casting was/is pure genius. RIP Danny and Bing.....They are/were Two of The Best Showman who ever lived:)❗️🙏🏽😇🤩😀😃😄😁😆🎼😂🙂🙃😉☺️🤣😊😌😍🥰😘😗😚🤝👍🤜🤛🏾🌝🌚⭐️💫✨🌟🌈🌙🌕🌎⛄️☔️❄️☃️🎄🍾🥂🎭🎤🎧🎼🎹🎨🎬🎫🎟🎸🎺🎷🥁🎻🎙🎥📽📻📺🎉🎊🎁🎈🎀🏆🎖🥇🏅♥️♣️♠️💎💌❤️💜❣️💖💘💕🧡💛🤍💞💝💟💓🤎💚💙💗☮️☯️💯✅🆒🎦🔟🎵🎶☑️
I'm with Isaiah Murphy! Why can't they make nice movies like that anymore? I just crack up whenever I see this scene in White Christmas!!! XD (we have the DVD) Love this video! TFS! ~Janet in Canada : ) xxxx
This moment wouldn't have happened in the movie if Fred Astaire had played Phil Davis. Fred Astaire was wonderful, but he was also a huge professional, and I doubt he would have come up with something this funny like Danny Kaye did.
I've used this number dressed as nuns for a show and people were rolling at when a certain gentleman arrived from Rome I pulled a pic of the pope out of my habit roars of laughter !!!!
Back in the 1960s I saw an episode of a TV program called "You Can't Do That On TV", and two women dressed as nuns sang "Sisters" live. I can't remember what city I saw this in, but it wasn't a national show.
This is my favorite scene in this movie! My sister and I are actually going to sing this song dressed as these guys during our choir concert next year!
@@NikkiDrawsStuff It went great! My sister and I bicker a lot which most of our school knows, so everyone in the audience was laughing real hard when we stuck our tongues out at each other!
I love this movie. It's -the- tree decorating movie. And this scene kills me every -single- time. And my daughters have started acting it out 😂😂😂 I made them use pillows instead of chairs like they suggested 🤣
The first time I saw this scene I was hysterical. I love that Bing cracks up and it wasn't scripted. And as another person said on here, this was not planned for the movie, but I'm so glad they put it in! I love Danny Kaye!

I did not know that. Thats awesome, just figures some of the best movie clips are the impromptu lines and scenes. Thank you for sharing that tidbit.
Even better is when they filmed this scene, Danny kept going off script and Bing couldn't stop laughing.
I had to watch this in High School for History Class. My whole class and I laughed at this scene!
And you know that Bing is truly cracking up, because that laughing face is definitely NOT “a Hollywood face.”
@@robinrubendunst869 It looks like Bing and Danny had fun doing this classic routine!!!
Crosby said he thought this scene would be reshot because Kaye improvised so much that he couldn't stop laughing. But the director loved it so much they decided to go with this version.
1
And Crosby was such a serious actor. Kaye definitely brought him out of his shell in this scene
William James I wouldn’t say he was a serious actor, he was when he had to in movies, but look at the road movies or his early Mack Sennett comedies
Bing was a pefectionist. Director made the right choice, certainly!!!
@@ModernBingFan but he was usually the “straight guy.”
I love this scene. If they had reshot it, it wouldn't have had the same sense of fun. I love Bing's genuine laughter at the end of the number.
Joe Libby how are you verified?
They did reshoot this. But the director loved this version much better
I watch for that laugh every time I watch
Bing is trying (and failing) so hard to keep it together, and Danny is LIVING for every moment 😂
Fun fact, the last part where Danny k hit him 3 times was unscripted. So their reactions along with the crowds were everyone's reaction.
Apparently half of this whole scene was improvised
Cool, thank you didn't know that. I sent a copy or whatever u call it these days to my sister's. It got me thru this terrible Covid Christmas since I couldn't be with my girls.
@@taegan1831 the entire thing was. Bing and Danny Kaye told the director they wanted to do something and the director went with it.
I could tell because even the camera man was laughing
I just love the ending when they're laughing. The director said this was the best of the takes since they were laughing so hard through most of them they couldn't even finish. Classic!

My favorite part is at 1:28 when Danny Kaye hits Bing Crosby you can hear him lose it and it's hilarious.
They were not actually singing, they were lip syncing to a record.
Bing is obviously making actual mistakes in his lip-synching, but that works perfectly because in the plot, they do this so that the actual Haynes Sisters can make a getaway from the club, because their former landlord has falsely claimed they owe him money and he's brought the sheriff to arrest them. +hebneh if you have seen the movie they saw the girls and they were staring at there eyes the whole time and having an argument so they weren't paying attention to the words
Danny's getting so into this.
I always liked the way Bing pointed his toes....SWEET ;0
I think the best part of this scene is the way Bing cracks up at the end
Stephanie Whitaker the other guy's name is Danny Kaye
I don't think Bing was expecting that last bit, and that's why it was so funny. 😂
Best scene from any 50s movie. Pure gold.
This scene makes me laugh everytime. It’s just the best. Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye were absolute legends.
I nearly fell out my chair LMAO!!!!
Why can't all movies be this good?
Hits harder in post Pandemic times
What really makes this good is that it is so out of character for Bing Crosby. One of my favorite parts of the movie
not really, you're talking about the guy who made all the Road to movies with Bob Hope. shit was crazy in those things
Bing was uncomfortable with this scene and wasn't performing well, so Michael Curtiz told Danny Kaye to ham it up in this take. Bing broke up and Curtiz used this take.
The funny part was the end of the song. Danny wasn't supposed to be hitting with the fan like that.
This part never gets old LOL
Danny ad-libbed the smacking of the fan to Bing just to get a rise out of him. I glad this take was used in the final cut.
I know I've seen this movie 75 times in 60 years... what a classic
I’ve seen it 5-6 times in 10 years
Crosby's laughter and Kaye's giggle at the end are what really get me. The whole bit is great and I love this was improvised but it's just that laught at the end.
this is the best scene in the entirety of movie history
Look at Bing's face, he's cringing while Danny's having a real ball with this! Even Danny's like, "Lighten up!" while hitting him with the fan.
He's not cringing he's laughing
Danny's face when Bing said the wrong line at 1:20. The best.
I love Danny's facial expressions 😂😂
Terrific entertainers! I'm lucky to have lived at the same time as such talent.
Me too! Because we’re living in a tough time where Star power doesn’t always translate into a worthy product.
I read somewhere that the final sequence, where DK keeps hitting Bing with the fan was almost cut. But they liked how Bing was candidly cracking up . . . so they kept it! Great fun scene!!

The funniest part of the movie! I’ve seen this classic 5-6 times in the last 10 years
White Christmas is a wonderful movie!
this video gives me so much serotonin like they’re just goofing around and having so much fun🥺
This is one of my favorite scenes. It's hilarious.. and I think they're not really acting here; they're genuinely having fun and cutting up.
classic and brilliant...the whole film a treasure!
My beautiful daughter now 17 in 1 week use to dance to this song when we were based in Germany 🇩🇪, she was just a little over a year old 😇😻🙏❤️✝️👯♀️
This little number is adorable!😍
Who thinks Loki and Thor need to do a cover of this??

Theresa Colella definitely!! And tony and Bucky will be the one playing in the orchestra!! LMAO!!!

Grew up watchin this with my mom. Favorite Christmas movie!
I can see Harvey Korman and and Tim Conway doing an impression of this 😂😂😂
That would have been quite a sight to see if they were still alive right now!
Spontaneous and pure fun.
My daughters know this by heart...LOL! Watched it every year since they were kids...Classic...
Danny's having so much fun XD
This song made this one of my favorite Christmas movies.
Had to watch this in 2024!
“Hey, we're a smash. Let's take a bow!”
“You crazy? We'll be takin' a bow down at the jail house. Come on."
😂😂😂😂
This was my favorite scene!
this is the best part of the movie, and we all know it 😆

I love White Christmas! Oh what I would do to live back then when people were sane and decent and life was good.
I did. It was great.
Danny was so natural in this scene 😻
I love Danny Kaye. I was 7 in 1981 and that's how it began. So funny and really talented.❤️
They look like they were having fun. I love it.
it was the first take, bing could bareley keep a straight face and the audience was told it would be a retake of "sisters"
My childhood local library had a VHS of 'White Christmas' and this was far and away my favourite part of the movie. Thanks for posting it!
Hmmm don't be tricked people; I think they may be lip-syncing. ;P

its great how they just lose their shit at the end

One of the Best parts of the movie other than count your blessings!!!!!!!
They look like they were having fun
they walked so rupaul’s drag race could run
One of my absolute faves
Danny Kaye was so good in this!!! 😆❤
My first movie with him was either Secret Life of Walter Mitty or the Court Jester. Took me a year after both to stream this one
According to the story this was the best take they could do because Bing kept cracking up...
I had such a crush on Danny Kaye when I was a kid.
Love you Danny!
Danny Kaye was really getting into the dancing!
I know they didn't have time to, but who wishes they'd have worn the dresses?
0:27 Danny's face!! 😂
At 1:20 Bob almost says mister instead of sister.
@crownmehufflepuff the character hes playing is named Bob
Christian Mag yes! And he wanted to do another take but director said "no"! It was so funny the way it was no need for a do over!
Lol loved how this was actually them with their open choreography, and probs them really laughing at the end
Danny was really expressive. Freaking hilarious!

I love this scene, and the wearing those sock garters,it's hysterical!
I love how Danny is clearly having the time of his life 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Beautiful 🙏
This was the first lip sync battle, before there was Lip Sync Battle. And these two have won.
i just love this film I hope they put it on over Christmas in the uk
I loved this scene 😂😂
It was sooo unexpected, really hilarious LOL
My sister and I do this duet every year. 💗🎄 👗 🎙 👗🎄💗
So much laughter abounds!
The time for you has come: to lip-sync...FOR YOUR LIFE! 👄💃

This movie made me love Danny Kaye.
😹 always me fave part o' this movie!! sent link to me sis on her birthday, as she loves it, too❕ 🎂
Hilarious..still, after I’ve watched this movie for 60+ years!
I love the Old MGM Era Movies 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
trinibwoy27 Not that it matters much, but this was from Paramount Pictures.
Mauricio Durón Well thanks for correcting me. My bad. Still I love these old era films. I love the dancing especially
trinibwoy27 The best of times, trini! Regards.

Love this film.
Idk y'all, I think bing was having fun.
Not as much as Danny! XD
~:~
Natalie Harshman oh well of course ! I don't think that's possible to have more fun than Danny ! ;)

yea

No respect for the classics
What a genuine laugh!
