    Omg best sphero review. I have been looking at getting one for a while, but most reviews didn't explain what I needed. This did. Thank you so much!

      2B looks like it'll be cool, but it wont be waterproof. The lack of wireless charging is what helps 2B's price.

    Sphero 1 is still around for a lower cost option, and they'll probably refresh the robot at some point, that's when we might see a price drop on sphero 2. Considering all the apps you can play with, I don't think it's a bad price.

      If your daughter is interested in tech or programming, Sphero has a pretty great educational tool kit. Aside from just being a fun toy, I think it's a great way to test those logic skills.

    My daughter and I made a drone with wireless camera and cheese bait for the dog. This drone was made well enough to allow Sphero 2.0 to tow the weight of the K'Nex carriage that held the camera, 9v battery, and cheese deck ... moving on and off carpet.

    Idea: Luxor Sphero. A game where you can create your own custom maps and use Sphero as a pushing scarab and you use your i-pad or phone to look for matching balls that your scarab shooter has. Quite fun once you get a hang whith how to augment your reality.

    Next version needs a camera.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy

      I've seen people hack the Sphero hardware to make it more of a segway or roomba-like robot, while adding cameras.

  • @SomeGadgetGuy

    Orbotix actually had a dismantled Sphero on display that had a camera attached. While the case spins around, the internal hardware is balanced like a segway. Think a hamster in a ball. The hamster doesn't go spinning around inside.

  • @SomeGadgetGuy

    To be fair, there's one minute and 50 seconds worth of video showing Sphero in operation not counting static shots of sphero and demonstrating set up, or changing color. Gonna be doing a little more with Sphero as I go through the apps from Orbotix as well.

    I love hearing someone say "Growing up on a Nintendo.". I grew up and started on the Telstar console in the seventies. It only worked on a b&w TV and took 8 DD batteries. From there I went to Colecovision, Vectrex, Vic 20, C64, Amiga 500, NES, SNES, original Gameboy and onto the PC then PS1, Xbox, and so on. I completed the original Ultima series in the eighties on the C64. I was already in the military for three years by the time Nintendo came out.
    Good video tho, Juan. I was living in the past for a moment there. Heh.

      Aw thanks! Glad you enjoyed! That swimming bit blew my mind. For water like that you're supposed to use a nubby cover to give Sphero better traction, but this little bugger is powerful enough to overcome the jets on low in that hot tub even without the cover. Pretty rad. I'm getting another Sphero for my Nephew.

    I just watched your review on ScienceFiction.com. It wasn't posted there, so don't worry about having to hunt it down. I like your review of Sphero 2.0. Keep the good tech reviews coming!
    How I found your review of Sphero 2.0 was actually by going to an article on ScienceFiction.com that showed how people can make their own BB-8 droid from Star Wars: The Force Awakens by decorating a Sphero 2.0 ball to look like BB-8.
    What I would like to know now is has anyone thought of or tried to make a Baymax from Big Hero 6 using a Sphero ball?
    Baymax and BB-8: both marketable and lovable characters.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy

    We've tested it on all kinds of dogs. We've shot it with birdshot at close range and it doesn't penetrate the shell. You'd have to sit there and hammer at it with a hammer to crack the shell. We use a drill press to open them for testing. There's a video of us shooting Sphero with a shotgun here on youtube.

    This thing would freak people out where I live. I wonder what people
    s experiences & reactions are with it in public. Most people would think it was a ball on the floor and if it started to move on it's own going back and forth without any obvious person controlling, they would be really freaked out hah

    Have they taken down most of the sphero apps? I can't find most of the ones they used to have.

    Can you only get it online or can you get it in shops?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  11 років тому +2

      I know they've popped in brick and mortar stores around town, but I don't know if it's consistently carried by any retailer in stores. Buying online is probably the easiest way to grab one.

    •  10 років тому

      You can buy one from apple store, But it does not look so good in my opinion.

    IDK if I should get the revealed version or just the normal version. The revealed version shows the internals but then it looks like a DIY thing instead of something you paid $120 for.

    So my birthday is coming up and I don't know what I want. I just checked Vat19 and it came up with this! Question: which is better, Sphero 2.0 or Ollie? I don't know which one.

    • @BeesUSA
      @BeesUSA 8 років тому +1

      PokéCards // PokèTV Ollie is basically just a Rc car so get sphero instead

    I would like the Sphero being used as a gyroscope controller because some of my apps are hard to use when you have gyroscope controls enabled.

    The augmented reality zombie bashing app *really* needs to have a Google Cardboard option added. How much fun would it be to see your zombie infested living room covering your entire view? You could even have the controls still using the roll & tilt method, so you just tilt your whole head to move.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  6 років тому

      Vousie V or at least ARCore support so the zombies could better interact with the real environment...

    Sorry didnt make that clear you don't need to do the thing when you open and close the app like test if it goes forward in settings there should be an option or read the instructions
