How does a Citroen Xsara Picasso which has covered more than 512,000 miles (or 825,000km) look underneath after all those journeys?

I used to have a 206 with a 2.0 HDi lump, this actual one I should imagine. When I bought it, the engine cover only had two fixings (don't remember which corners), so I took it off, but a couple of years later, I decided that it looked daft leaning against a wall inside my house, so I refitted it to the car. I started getting coolant warnings, and true enough, the car was steadily losing coolant from a bleed value on the right of the engine which, as it happens, had been disturbed and loosened by an unsecured engine cover (fancy that). I removed the cover, purchased non-OEM fixings (i.e. not made of chocolate), fitted the cover properly and never had the issue again for as long as I owned the car.

    Dear Reader,
This whole test, and everything Mr. UPnDOWN has detected is a testimony of the level of the technical skill and the professional attitude of a man that seems to own a SM.
By the way, do you know that SM in Dutch stands for Sadomasochism. Well isn't that a coincidence, that Mr UPnDOWN loves to endure the steps to make his SM somewhat more acting as a real driving vehicle?

My Xsara Picasso was low on coolant with no obvious leaks. It turned out to be failed O rings in the heater matrix - left hand side of the centre console behind the ashtray/cubby hole. It was leaking out through the chassis beneath the passenger's footwell. New O rings solved it.

Dont know if you are joking but there is a middle road you know... Tons of cars the same age with same milage have the potential to be just as good, and vice versa, Citroen arent any worse on average than lots of other cars. In the end, most people making comments about cars, and certainly everyone "mocking" cars, dont know the first thing about what they are talking about. Its one of those nice easy litmus tests. No brand of cars are all good, nor all bad. On average for british road conditions, cars are better and more reliable than ever.

Besides the rusty sills, I've seen far worse vans at work that are far younger with far less miles! Just this week I was battling with a 2019 Transporter 4Motion with 94k on the clock. The flywheel was rattling like mad, the EGR valve was knackered, the front crank seal was leaking oil at a very alarming rate, and the offside front shocker was caked in damp oily mud from leaking everywhere. At 94k! Not even 100k, never mind 500k! Oh, and the current Berlingos still use that gearbox (or a very similar one), and the nearside driveshaft seal still leaks for fun on those too.

Richard, my own Xsara Picasso was the same with the sills. Fortunately, I knew somebody who could do the welding for me so that was easily sorted. The engine cover on mine was also missing so I found one in a breaker. I agree that it looks more like a 150K mile car. My 2009 Mercedes W204 C200 has 218K miles on the clock but it looks like it has half the mileage.
