Watching you makes me realize how much I'm looking at my relative and virtual mirror. I always assumed everybody did the same. Almost literally eye opening, I gotta make a conscious effort to focus on the track more. Thanks for the great video as usual Dave!!
#22 here. That spin on the fast right hand kink was so bizarre. Tried to save it but at least I hit the barrier side on. Still had to pit for repairs. That final turn got me and so glad I wasn’t alone in that all week. Only 1 time I spun there in a race this week, of course it’s when you’re recording for the whole world to watch! Lol😂
Hello Dave, I personally do like what you did here, where I can see where you're looking. (Should do this myself one day and compare.) Thank you and keep it up !
Very good showcase. This will help those that don't know where they should be looking during the race. It does seem a bit inaccurate, like just a few centimeters off where you are actually looking, but it gives you a general idea and that's what matters most imo.
Thought this was going to be an April's Fool Video based on the thumbnail, but I do like this format. I haven't seen any other racer use this, so cheers!
OpenTrack and old PS3 camera work brilliantly. A camera used for tracking like the PS3 move camera seems to track better than a video camera like a web cam.
The screen going off is unlucky , happened to me while i was on the way to win my first race , but for like 5 seconds ... I ended up third , and here i am member for 9 months with 0 wins :)
It's interesting to look at the eye tracking if a little distracting. I think there's a margin for error though. What really interested me was your heart rate monitor. How is it being displayed on screen? I found it fascinating to witness it jump up at the start of the race and elevate at certain points.
I just love the Barber track, however never raced it during my iRacing years, but instantly grabbed it in the rFactorCentral high years when it was mod named Birmingham MotorPlex. But hey what's with the graphics? Looks like iRacing 2008 - any improvement on the board speaking graphics? Otherwise I'm OK with that. Think I'll rejoin iRacing for next winter seasion, looks interesting using Beam Eye Tracker. Wandering if a plugin tool to my Quest 2 could do similar.
I use Trackir wireless and works great for Truck sim's as I run a single 48" 4k (can't afford 3 LOL), but for racing my thoughts are triples or VR, so I am a huge fan of the wireless version of Trackir
Just recently upgraded to the Samsung G9 57" monitor and using it with Tobii 5 Eyetracker. You do not need triples, the immersion is similar to VR with such a large single screen and this combination. While it has its own software for various games, it works really well now with recent updates with opentrack software for many PC sims. User can apply curves to vary how the headtracking sensitivity operates to their liking. @Dave search on YT for recent videos others have done regards the Tobii 5 with the new mount it can be placed closer to user and also now works with large screens. Some of the benefits with the Tobii 5 is that it is infared so works in the dark or bright lit rooms and again nothing to wear....
Usually when the display goes blank or loses sound temporarily it’s your HDMI/Display Port cable slowly dying. With digital signals you don’t get snow, it cuts out.
Yes I've noticed glitches when I have HDR turned on in windows too so no doubt the cable. Need to find a decent one as this on in an Amazon 'certified'
I tried in iR and camera moves to much any tips how to get working like yours ir you used default settings with opentrack? On RF2 it worked really well
I use to but recently change to track only head cuz with glass seems gaze tracking lost precision. To me, playing in a single TV, is the best option to see edges on turns. Thanks for the video. BTW i turn off circle overlay.
This is great. It also occurs to me that you could edit a race replay and literally image a pointer/red dot onto the screen where you're scanning and looking the entire race. IMO that is the only way to really get across just how far down the track eve everyone still in sub 1500 iRacing are not looking.ha At some point talent comes into play, but vision is massively important obviously
Tobi Eye Tracker is great on MSFS and wish it wouid support iRacing without a number of hacks. That would be ideal to look left/right on a single screen. No need for hats etc.
@@davecamytMy monitor has a feature that turns off the screen if it detects static electricity to safeguard the components. Just something else to think about if there's anything near your's that may be able to build a static charge. Love the channel.
I'm a little confused on the purpose of the eye tracking software. I must be missing the point. Okay, so it can track your eye movements. What does it do with this information? I don't understand how this helps anything... Can someone explain what the purpose of this is?
I think it's just kind of an educational gimmick (don't mean that in a negative way) to show what Dave is looking at in a race. I don't assume it will be a permanent thing, just to show off the technology. Can't say I've seen these used for a racing game before, but they're a cool way to learn what people are subconsciously doing while they game so that you can learn what they're checking without them needing to actively be describing it.
@@Tapport it also allows your character to look all around you in the cockpit aswell depending on if you're glancing to the left or right. I presume Dave had this disabled but you can effectively look at your left window and your characters head will turn to the left.
What's the focal point of the circle overlayed? It seems a bit difficult to tell where your eye focus is relative to your peripheral. Of course peripheral vision is gonna be hard to tell but understanding where the tracker is placing the center of your eyes would be really good. Great video btw
I can't for the life of me get down below high 1:29s on that track, tried the merc and the porsche. I'm faster in the porsche but just can't get there. The merc feels way faster but not accodring to the times.
Dear Dave, yes #6 is driving different than you in that corner. But you are not allowed to drive through him xD You must react to the drivers as they move, not as you would move normaly in his position. In reality he could have much worse tires, or other setup and so on. Please dont use such an excuse, when you make a mistake.
I wasn't making an excuse I was providing a reason. There's a distinct difference 👍 Fixed setup, same tyres and his pace through there on the previous lap was good. I saw no reason at the time to take any more speed off the car, which was a misjudgement on my part. Hence me saying it was my fault about 5 times 😁
You made a mistake because of the screen going off. That cost you time. He took your spot fair, square and clean. It’s your job to do the same, no matter how he decides to take the corner. Still, he was taking it away from the racing line, so you should expect him to go slower than you if you are on the racing line. I guess what I’m trying to say is: Own your mistakes and don’t make others suffer the consequences of your cable choice 😅
AYYYY Dave did it!!!!!!! Thanks Dave!
You're welcome mate 😁
