Bro I wish I woke up at 5:15 , I’m already at work at 5 . It’s all about prepping, having food ready , coffee, clothes , gas in car , makes mornings smoother
I just started construction approx. 5 months ago. I have never done construction before, and most of the time is spent sweeping the floors, keeping the job site clean, and basically finding stuff to be active with. I usually wake up at 6, leave by 6:35, and get to the job site by 7. The company I work for is brand new, approx. 2 years old, run by 2 brothers who have 40+ years combined between them. I learn a lot, and tbh there are days when the task they have me do extends through the whole week. There are some days when I have just enough work for 1 day. When it rains, there's barely any work because the mud becomes a safety hazard. Hell, there are days where I get sent home early because everyone else has their responsibilities and I've finished mine (whether it be sweeping floors or doing tasks like installing door knobs, base molding, driving from one job site to the next, etc) and am now waiting on them for an opportunity to arise. What I'm saying, is we've seen him work 1 day, but how about we also entertain the fact that the 1 day he recorded, isn't everyday, but perhaps the 1 rare day in the week where there is barely anything to do? Construction isn't at all like I thought it was, at least on film. Its hard work, and living next to a lake makes it unbearably humid, but the people are friendly, the supervisors give you shit, but in a friendly way, and you learn valuable skills that you can use wherever you go or wherever you live. Soon, I'll be tasked with doing more important things, but as far as I know, the construction you saw in this video is the rarest day you can ever get.
Rare is right, and on one of these rare works days I took the opportunity to make a video about it. Maybe the title lead to a lot of people being mislead to what they were actually going to watch, but regardless construction is tough. How are you handling it? What type of work do you do? It sounds like carpentry maybe?
@@TylerSchwab I'm actually a general laborer, doing the odds and ends my contracting company doesn't see the need to pay for like sweeping floors, picking up garbage, and building miscellaneous items inside the buildings. So far its not so bad, but I live near a lake so...the humidity is god awful lol. I do hope to go into plumbing, carpentry, or hopefully an electrician.

My happiness in construction differed job to job. One they had me and another guy mixing cement, moving the bricks that were just jack hammered; easy stuff like that. The foreman was really cool and everyone was chill. That was actually sad to leave the site when it was finished. The same cannot be said for waterproofing basements, though.
Funny thing is he hasn’t realized that the reason he’s changing crews is cause the guys he just bought frosties for were sick of seeing him take a cut of their job

They sent me to apprentice for this one shop once. The guy tells me my job is to help the electricians keep the floor clean. Apparently they were laying off the laborers. So one laborer throws his hard hat two inches from my head and threatens to kill me if I touch a broom. I was an apprentice learning the rules so I just didn't touch the broom. When the owner asked why I didn't clean the floor I told him a laborer threatened to kill me. They layed him them off and tried to get me and the other apprentice to clean things up. A wireman who just transferred over told us we are not helpers we are electrical apprentices and that other job was for the laborers. So we didn't clean up we installed electrical work until we suddenly got laid off. I remember them accusing us of some awful stuff just because I showed up on time to learn how to do my job. Laborers get it tough.
Yea, well come to the milenial gen, even if this is real and he has the job, maybe the big union outfist are, having to outfit themselves for the common, UA-cam pecker boy always filming shit...

If you're still considering, keep in mind that your life will vary tremendously depending on what trade you do and what industry you work in. Our on-site electricians and plumbers work 9-5, while other places can have you pulling loads of overtime (and the associated extra money too).

Love the comments below, i don't necessarily get involved with the politics of people, I attended My civil construction course and now actively seeking a job for it, but damn its hard the course only went for 5 weeks and only had 2 weeks of skid steer/roller operations while the rest was theory plus 2 days of traffic control. and in those 2 weeks it was limited use for the bobcats because there was 17-20 people with only 3 old bobcats with a 15 minute rotation. I picked up the skill real quick because i play a lot of pc games for eye-hand coordination. But having only 2 hours on the bobcat and an hour on the roller just doesn't fit the criteria when employers are looking for minimum 2 years experience so its kinda fucked for new people trying to get in. I was aiming the John Holland company thats developing the underground metro tunnels in Melbourne but they require people with experience in some sort of construction industry. But i'll figure it out. hopefully

Nice! Pretty accurate depiction of what working underground utilities is like. Everyone who's hating on this video don't really understand this type of construction. You end up doing a lot of running around, getting things organized, picking up fuel, loading/unloading tools and materials, waiting on machines to dig, waiting on machines to backfill, etc... The only people on a job like this that don't ever (hardly) stop are the hoe operators. I've been on jobs where we had 2 hours between cuts - literally "work" for 1 hour every day, rest is waiting.
This is the type of guy that is so useless we just send him on blank errands because there’s nothing for him to do and we’re tired of seeing him standing there doing nothing. Edit: all the laborers replying got butt hurt
He's probably the least experienced and still coming along. Everybody needs a gofer, it's a valid role so someone more valuable doesn't have to do that job.

Don’t miss those hours, don’t miss the weather, don’t miss the 30 min lunch, don’t miss my sore knees and permanent scabs on my shins, and don’t miss the minus 30 to 40 degrees Celsius working outside 40 feet in the air. It was a good learning experience though, I recommend every young man atleast try one trade in their early working years!

I dont do what this guy does but I respect what every person does that contributes to building (construction ). Every trade does their part, and without one trade, your buildings that you shop in, receive healthcare in, live in, curse the owner in, workout in, do recreational activities etc...wouldn't exist. I would like to mention, that if you do not want to go to college or cannot afford it, then you should apply yourself to a trade in construction. Get with a company that offers an apprenticeship opportunity. You.can choose a trade that has a top.heavy brawn versus having to use your brain as much. Or you.can get into a trade that requires more smarts with less use of your brawn. There are also trades that require you to be able to use both. To have a company pay for your schooling while you work is amazing. The best part is, you can quit at will (they may penalize you, as they are paying for your education in exchange for production.) and do something else. You'll also be exposed to.all of the other trades on the job which may spark interest outside of what you are doing. For instance, I started in the field doing duct work for a mechanical company and now work in the Elevator trade. Apprenticeships are where it is at. If you go to and pay for college, don't be the cut that takes BS classes and lands a job at Starbucks. Go big. But the work ethic these days is garbage and is dying. It isnt that hard to shine. Think about that and apply yourself. There are loads of opportunities out there and construction has many options and career opportunities to choose from. Good luck

U r civil engineer?

I picked up the skill real quick because i play a lot of pc games for eye-hand coordination.
