My mother made me grow up listening to Elton, paying me a quarter to dance with her at times. Today I am with her playing this music for her. It's hard, she has Lewy Body Dementia, and at the end so to speak. Playing this song, as she sleeps, she still has an essence of herself, because she is tapping her fingers and moving her feet to the song. Thank you Elton for all the great songs, incredibly dear memories with my mother. Your songs are like old friends and hugs around our hearts today.

When I was a kid, me and my friend Kody used to go to his room and play his moms records. Mostly Elton John records, they were fun to sing along to, we would jump all over the place. We played baseball, football together, he was also at all my dirt bike races, he was my best friend since 3rd grade. We went on to high school, he was a bad ass at baseball, he had mad skills. I would have quit but he kept practicing with me, he made me good enough to keep it going, I was good enough to where we both had college interest. Senior year , we decided to focus on baseball, women and parties. That year was great, we both had the grades, college recruit would have been easy for both of us. Then I noticed he was being scouted by 2 pro teams, I was happy for him, it was all I could talk about. I noticed one day he had this look like a really bad feeling. There was a lot I didnt know about him, he was going to the doctor for depression, anxiety and he wasnt sleeping, he was also becoming more detached. Baseball was over, I had a few letters, he signed a pro contract ($750K 1yr guaranteed). It was almost end of the year, senior ditch day, we were at a lake having a good time, I stayed close to him, I kept finding him alone. He came up to me, it looked like he had snapped out of it, he wanted to swim out to this small area in the middle, it was a floating dock about 100 yards from shore, we did it all the time it was no big deal. 6 of us jumped in and swam over, I didnt see Kody. He wasnt with us, I swam back to shore, I looked everywhere for him, I knew where he was, I didnt say anything, I didnt scream or yell, it was already about 90 minutes since we had been looking for him. I jumped into my truck, went to a payphone down the road and called the police. They cleared us out, they found him, no alcohol, no drugs, he just drowned. To this day I do not watch baseball, I still have all my equipment but I never played again. I had a Ford F250 longbed 4x4 with a 10 inch lift, 44 tires. I went to a friends and borrowed his garage band sound system , I cleared it with his mom. After the funeral was over, everyone standing there, I cranked it and played all his favorite Elton John songs. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, I could bearly stand. I remember everyone singing along with the songs, I didnt know they were that popular. I wish we had filmed all the goofy shit we did when we heard these songs. This was the last song I played for him, not one dry eye. Also found out he had one more present for me, he knocked up his girlfriend, yep, a boy.I am his godfather. To me the thing that always stood out with Elton John is his way with melody and hooks. There's not a single line which is stale or bland or run of the mill. He squeezes real music out of every second of his songs.
I already infinitely loved this song as I have done for years like all of Elton's music, but to hear it in The Boys which is currently my favourite show made it even better!

This song is so sad for me. My uncle when he was 18 was in a car crash and sadly passed away but the friend that he was with survived it didnt hurt him any. The last words my beloved uncle said were,"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Every time I hear this song or think of it i crie. In didnt even get to meet him. Do y’all just feel the need to comment about your dead relative whenever you hear a good song? Because to be fair, no one cares until you brought it up.
This album means so much to me. I fought a long hard battle for my life in 2018. My mom passed in 2005 and this was album I remember listening to with her all the time. When I was sedated on a ventilator, this song stayed in my head. When I woke up it was the first song I wanted to hear. I swear it was my mom telling me she was with me, and to go back to where I needed to be. I found a pristine original pressing of this on vinyl last year and it's one of my most cherished records.
This song takes me back to time when I was a child and lived on my parents' farm, I used to listen to this song over and over again on top of a tree until the sun went down. there are things I can not live without, this song is one of them.
I was 18, me and my best friend Ricky Ranger (Rick White) went camping off the beaten path in California 1973. We were on leave from the Army and this song was on the radio. Ricky passed away, but that was one of the best times of my life camping in the California Mountains. I'll never forget it.
"Echoes" by Pink Floyd live at Pompeii might be the best "aah"s for me..... Also serious competition between Rammstein and Billy Eillish for the greatest "duh" 😂. Peace✌
This will always remind me of dancing around and singing with my mom when I was a kid. Thank God she raised me on the classics, and she still sings this to this day! She's going on 60.
Peter M The 70s are my favourite decade for music, but to claim that everything that came after it is shit is just wrong. So many great Rock, Metal, Punk, Pop, Hip Hop, Electronic bands have released stuff since then. From Kate Bush to Daft Punk, from Iron Maiden to Public Enemy, from Radiohead to Joanna Newsom, is there really nothing you like from after the 70s?

Saw Rocketman with my daughter last night. We talked about not forgetting your roots. Return to the plough. Be true to yourself, as you heal your past.
This movie started so many great conversations with my mum. Stuff about how sexuality was hidden and how many rockstars used got drugs. You know a film's fantastic when it can still be entertaining 30 minutes after the credits roll
I'd be honored if some Elton John fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of LEVON and ROCKET MAN on my YT channel in tribute to the masters of 20th century composition and lyrics (Elton and Bernie Taupin). Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace.
I absolutely ❤️ love Elton John, he’s got it going on still today. Back in the day when he sang all of these songs, that’s when I fell in love with him. I was young back then, now I’m 51 and I REALLY love these songs still. To me if a songwriter, singer had really good songs in the 1970’s and those songs are still popular today, that’s incredible talent!!
EJ Sutton I'm very sorry for your loss and may your father rest in peace but I'm just curious what do you mean they played it at his funeral? Did they play it in the church? I always see comments that say please play this at my funeral and they just make me wonder because I never heard songs played in a church at a funeral before. The mood is usually too solemn. Just wondering is all. My condolences and may your dad rest in peace. ✝️
There's 2 kinds of people. You either came here for nostalgia, or you came here after watching the Finale of The Boys season 3. Both of these parties can agree on something: This song is incredible.

Elton and Bernies song about the perils of fame. You wish for it ,but when you get it you realise it's not how you imagined it. A wonderful song which holds beautiful memories for me. God bless you Elton and Bernie.
The fact that Bernie and Elton made it through this hard moment in their collaboration, and produced THIS gem of a song as a result... WOW. Takeaway: We can all get through whatever the fuck it is we're going through. (And lord knows we all are, am I right?) This is tragic. Gorgeous. Hopeful... Full of so much gratitude...
They played this song on the plane while I was traveling to my new work assignment 1,495 kilometers away from home. This song kinda made me emotional and brought me to tears while I was on the plane because of the thought I will be so far away from home. But then I again, I just focus on the great opportunity I was given and the thought that I may be able to give my family a bit of an easy life. So yeah... hanging on, for whatever the future may bring.

I’m 17, Elton is a legend !
To me the thing that always stood out with Elton John is his way with melody and hooks. There's not a single line which is stale or bland or run of the mill. He squeezes real music out of every second of his songs.
Brilliantly put!

When are you gonna come down?
When are you going to land?
I should have stayed on the farm
I should have listened to my old man
You know you can't hold me forever
I didn't sign up with you
I'm not a present for your friends to open
This boy's too young to be singing, the blues
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road
What do you think you'll do then?
I bet that'll shoot down your plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics
To set you on your feet again
Maybe you'll get a replacement
There's plenty like me to be found
Mongrels who ain't got a penny
Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies

Do y’all just feel the need to comment about your dead relative whenever you hear a good song? Because to be fair, no one cares until you brought it up.
@tristanmarroquin102 you are a worthless individual
This album means so much to me. I fought a long hard battle for my life in 2018. My mom passed in 2005 and this was album I remember listening to with her all the time. When I was sedated on a ventilator, this song stayed in my head. When I woke up it was the first song I wanted to hear. I swear it was my mom telling me she was with me, and to go back to where I needed to be.
I found a pristine original pressing of this on vinyl last year and it's one of my most cherished records.
My mum passed away in 2012, and she loved this song, so every time I hear this, I think of her. Old songs always hold memories for us.
So sorry for your losses. I’m sure it’s not easy to go through something like that, but you are in my prayers.

As a kid growing up in the 1970's, Elton John was all over the radio. Elton was to the 70's like Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna was to the 80's.
70s were better all the other stuff after is shit
enmaxus that's right
Peter M most is definitely there have been few exceptions !
