Good review. Your probably the only review video on the mammoth i have found so far.

@@oldman2477 Thanks! Even Michael really hasn't explained just how unique this collar is, so I wanted to put that out especially, as someone who has other historical examples.

This was super helpful, thank you for posting! I was too slow with the most recent drop but hoping to snag a Mammoth when they next become available. I think we're a similar size too, and I had been planning to go for XL, but after watching this, I guess I need to go up to XXL. Would hate to feel constricted and lose the capacity to layer. Any reason you went for this over the beefier version? I worry a bit that the beefier version will be too warm. Any thoughts on that?

@@thomaschen4696 I bought this as an upgrade to a Filson Cruiser, which I use as a winter work jacket. The cruiser is unlined, and lacks storm cuffs, which makes the temperature range I can wear it in much broader. I have some jackets with storm cuffs, and they wear much too hot for anything above 20°f, and if you're moving around much, they're really only comfortable under 10°f, which is colder than Maine usually is during the day in the winter these days. I bust those out occasionally, but they aren't versatile. They're better for windy, chilly city walking, especially on the coast. Being able to unbutton and fold back the cuffs is also handy for wet or muddy tasks.

@@matthewsbernier Makes sense, thanks! I'm in VT so not dissimilar weather here. :) How are you liking that "map pocket"?

@@thomaschen4696 At this point, I consider it an indispensible feature in a cold season coat. Not only is it an additional wind stopping layer over your back that leaves your armpits more breathable on the sides, it's also incredible for large tool stowage when climbing a ladder. I've even taken 150' of rope and stuck it through, cimbed up with it, and tied it off. I also use my map pockets all the time for getting the mail in bad weather, or in the middle of snow shoveling when I don't feel like coming in yet. I can stick in magazines, large envelopes, even shipping tubes, and trust them to be dry. Mail that would have been drenched by the time I made it back to my door will have only as many drops as received headed to my map pocket.

Hello! How would you say the leaf mammoth is in terms of warmth and wind resistance? Would love a similar video like this one but where you discuss how the mammoth holds up in the elements! From the snow on the ground I would assume you live in a colder climate and perhaps similar to Scandinavia (where I come from).

@@wasz3890 It's very unlikely I'll make a video on it, since I'm not really a UA-camr or video maker, I'm just a guy who happened to have some other large collars lying around to compare. But, I'm happy to tell you what I know so far.
It's been pretty windy around here, but not all that cold since I got the Mammoth. We had a stretch of -7°f weather at night with highs of 5°f-17°f in the day, but lately it's been highs of 24°f-34°f, which isn't anywhere near the lower limit of this jacket with a sweater underneath. In fact, I have to remove the sweater to move around at all if it's near or above freezing, if I'm doing even moderate activity.
I dunno if you've ever worn the Filson Cruiser this is based on, but the Mammoth's leaf is a bit thicker, a bit more wind resistant, and a bit warmer. I used to wear the cruiser down to around 15°f with a sweater, 5° with a vest, or -5° with long underwear under the sweater. I reackon I can adjust all those about five degrees with the Mammoth's Leaf.

@@wasz3890 So, earlier I was out for about an hour, and the sun was starting to set, so the shadows were long. It was 17°f, and the wind was 14 mph with gusts of 24 mph. Under the Mammoth's Leaf I had a sweater on over a tshirt, and no long johns under my jeans. I was toasty in the sun, very slightly cool in the shade, and while the collar was sufficient, I did add a wool buff to protect my nose.

Now I’m worried, I have a mammoth coming in and my chest is 50in. If you got an XXL and only wore a 44 cruiser I may have no room to layer at all. I wish Michael sized his bigger sizes bigger based on measurements listed on site. Guess I’ll find out soon.
