  • 👉 Learn about the parts of a parabola. A parabola is the shape of the graph of a quadratic equation. A regular palabola is the parabola that is facing either up or down while an irregular parabola faces left or right. A quadratic equation is an equation whose highest exponent in the variable(s) is 2.
The parts of a parabola include: the axis of symmetry (the line passing through the vertex of the parabola to which the parabola is symmetric about), the vertex (the point at which the parabola turns), the domain (the set of possible x-values of the parabola, usually all real numbers for regular parabolas), the range (the possible y-values of the parabola which is usually the region above the vertex inclusive or below the vertex inclusive for regular parabolas), the x-intercepts (the points where the parabola cuts the x-axis) and the y-intercepts (the point(s) where the parabola cuts the y axis.

I did 3 things that really helped me with my math classes, 1.) Find someone or group to study with and do your homework. Very helpful to learn from and makes studying more enjoyable. 2.) Practice extra problems, or redo problems you already know the answer to, just copy it down and then check it. Keep working the problem till you get the processes right. 3.) summarize all the key processes, definitions, equations on a sheet of paper and try to write and make connections amongst them

Seems that the pedagogic method is to teach quadratic equations before the student has any knowledge of calculus. This then requires rote learning respecting finding the vertex and further rote learning as to how to determine whether the vertex [ extremum ] is a maximum or a minimum. Using calculus y(x) = a ^x^2 + b*x + c. dy/dx = 2*a*x + b and d2y/dx^2 = 2*a. At the vertex dy/dx = 0 so at the vertex. 2*a*(xV)+b = 0, xV= -b/( 2*a ) and if d2y/dx^2 > 0 then the extremum is a minimum and if < 0 then a maximum. No rote learning involved.
