I've read a book of a german guy who travelled the world with 50€. It took him 4 years to get around the world without using a plane...and his experiences were just awesome and inspiring. Doesn't always need money ;)
I just travelled for one year with 400$ a month, but I worked ZERO. So I'm sure you'll do it easily ;) In my UA-cam channel we talked about how to travel cheap, come say hi there, I'd love to have you in my community!
As a host since 2013 with now more than 1300 hosted nights I have to clearly say thank you, this is from a members clearly 1 of the best blogs I have ever seen.
Wow Rudolf! Since you're such an expert host, I would like to ask you some questions. I'm doing research about Couchsurfing. If you wish, send me a private message on Instagram, you find it on my UA-cam channel (or at @whatashamemaryjane). Thanks
if somebody is nice and hosts you, remember to show your appreciation to them. bring them food, spend time with them, teach them something valuable. CS is not free hotel. it's a community. hosted 4 ppl before the pandemic and had fun. :)
Spot on Alexander! I've hosted cs's from all over the world. First thing I look for is a full profile...don't be lazy! Then I look at pics, date joined and references. No references isn't a deal killer if they are relatively new. But they need a full profile. My biggest peeve requests are for accommodation just for sleep then they leave the next morning...cs is not just about accommodation. It's also about the exchange of meeting and learning about others...so don't be in a rush. Cs has been an amazing experience and I've never had one bad experience. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for this comment. As a future couch surfer, it is important to know the expectations of the hosts. Not to treat the host as just a free provider of accommodation. I'll get to working on my profile!
I think it supposed to be a culture exchange. Are you require to bring a token from your culture like a magnet from your country? Or something to see your appreciation. Take them to dinner or pay for an event you when too together? It is free for all? Just asking?
Hello my brother Can you add me on Couchsurfing and write any thing to complete my profile and also me i will do that in your profile. Ahmed Al Battashi
Alexander my boy you don't know how much trouble and efforts you've saved me, considering travelling but as everyone i am low on budget... like really really low so this really helped me out big time so thank you and be blessed!
I only had one photo on Coachserfing, for me, it was more to do with confidence. I didn't think of how it might look to others. After watching this I just uploaded some photos and feel great (I'm not that ugly LOL) thanks for giving me the push that I needed. The photos were a joy to upload because of the Couchsurfing memories that they are connected too.
I can't wait to make a profile this week. Just need to use someone's credit card tomorrow as I'm working for cash right now. I'm so excited to see where my spiritual journey leads me next!
This has been some of the greatest advice I have gotten so far. Thank you, Alex. I want to start traveling the world, but I am starting with learning America first, since it is my home. Haha. You have a great personality and I can tell you are genuinely a kind person and I aspire to be the same and just make friends wherever I go. Thank you for this.
okeylashawn thanks for the comment mate! I'm glad to hear of anyone starting their travel adventures, and especially finding out the beauty of Couchsurfing and meeting real locals. I wish you luck, you're gonna have some great experiences!
Thanks, Alexander for making the video! So inspirational and I learned a lot, even though I've been using Couchsurfing for about 4 years on a regular basis. You have such a positive energy and a calm manner. Further, I found it exciting to listen to you. I was sucked into the video at times. You also describe it in very detail and you make it easy to understand. Also, I find it cool that you put up the description in german. This indicates to me that you are a competent and organized person. You left a great impression on me. Cheers Max
If this video helped you either to have better travels or save a bunch of money, please consider giving a little back with a dollar on my Patreon! Thanks my friends : www.patreon.com/Travelbum

I went to Taiwan for a month and caught the travel bug. Now there’s a Covid bug going around and can’t travel yet. I think 2021 will offer better opportunity, 2020 was a bust for many 😤
Germany, USA, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Italy (my own country!), the Netherlands, Belgium...you name it! LOVE Couchsurfing and always had positive experiences!
Nice listening to your opinion about it, i dont couch but i believe in helping, so i open my home to strangers and becoming a friends. i host hundreds of travelers and it was an amazing experience. and still doing it. as my souvenirs with them i interview them about their travel and surf experiences.
Fiona Solis it's great to hear from the people in the world who are hospitable enough to open up their homes to strangers, and not just take advantage of it on the other end. Thank you for that!
I haven't tried this yet. Thank you for the great advice. I especially like the idea of meet ups beforehand just to make friends in the area or with the potential of staying with someone knowing that you both connect.
First of all, thanks for the Video :) We're traveling by hitchhiking around the world since october 2017 and are using couchsurfing quiet often. It works amaizing and we love to meet the locals and have cultural exchange. One more tip: use PUBLIC TRIPS aswell!!! We had a lot of amaizing results with this function, too. So far this has worked especially well in turkey. Greetings from Armenia, Sina & Niels
Use public trips if traveling with another person or maybe as a male. DON'T as a single female. It doesn't always work out well. Contact people direct. Stay safe everyone!
Hey Alex, I just recently joined couchsurfing because I'm going to Kauai in a couple weeks and this is going to be my first solo trip. On the past on vacations I didn't know how I could connect with people. This video was helpful because the site is overwhelming at first.
Hey Alex, this is such a good video about Couchsurfing. In 15 minutes you were able to give all the necessary infos about it and even more, in such a clear way! Also, you have a very beautiful smooth voice, it's a pleasure to hear it 😄 Thank you for educating about Couchsurfing, I'm trying to spread the message and the values on my channel and I really appreciate the work you put into this video. Long life to Couchsurfing!!!
Thank you so much for all this advice. I am learning about Couchsurfing, and really appreciate your tip about becoming a host first. That makes a lot of sense. I'm looking forward to many experiences. Shanti to all.
Thank you so much for this video. I have always always wanted to travel and never thought that I would ever have the right amount of money. I am so happy to have found your video.
Currently building my profile, travelling solo for the first time come March of 2020 (to Japan) This video has been very helpful, putting things into perspective for me! thanks ^.^
This isn't the first video I've watched but thanks for the advice. I'm already mentally committed to starting my journey just need a starting point lol
Inspiring thoughts on how to do couchsurfing right. We did a little twist on how couchsurfing works normally: we started out by finding a host in the streets of Oslo 😂. Check out the video on our profile.
Thank you! You made my day, I just felt really good after watching the video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️ do good to people and they are gonna do good to you - that's the idea that I got from here 😉👍🏻
Remember to bring somrthing to share with your host. Something from your culture (one little group from Taiwan brought a chinese calligraphy set for me) or some food or maps/brochures/postcard from your last place on your travels (my favourite!) Offer to cook for the family, of read a story/play with the kids. For example taking children out to kick a ball in the garden whilst the parents cook dinner . . . It all helps.
Hi Alexander, My name is Danish. I am from Pakistan & travelled only 1 city in the town in the northern areas. I plan to set up my profile on couch serving because after I am done with my bachelors in Business, I tend to travel & explore different cultures and make friends around the world. Thank you so much for the helpful video I know it was made 3 years ago & living in the 3rd world country but want to explore.
You are an amazing guy, go ahead and good luck. Thank for those information about how to use better couchsurfing. My upcoming plan is to visit more than 10 country
after watching this I realize that the concept of Free is Elusive at best. What we don't pay in money, we pay in time & energy trying to relate and gain other's approval. It seems to get anywhere in the world, we need either something that everyone approves of which is money, or be a very approvable person ourselves.
Ay your hat is where it's at. Also nice recap. I've used Couchsurfing more than 100x and I can say you have covered the platform exceptionally well here. Be Good Eric
You've got some fantastic advice in here! Thanks a bunch! I'm working on creating my profile to go on a pretty big trip in a bit. I think this will really help. But damn, what's with the focusing on your camera? The 70D is usually pretty solid!
Awesome, yes you really should try it, it’s amazing. And yeah, I don’t have the canon 70D now, which has amazing autofocus. I was using the Panasonic GH5 and I’m still dealing with it
How do I let people where I'm planning on going? My wife and I are only interested in meeting other locals and travellers, is there a way to advertise where we're going to be?
Yes! You can post a "public trip". You describe briefly yourself and your trip and it will appear publicly on the page of the city you're going to visit, so that hosts who have time to host/show around to someone in those days can contact you and offer you their company. :)
Also, if you're only interested in meeting up and not being hosted, it's super easy to find locals. You use a new feature of the Couchsurfing app called "Hangouts". You activate it on the app when you're in the place and it will show you all the people nearby who have activated this feature as well. You can make a post saying "looking for a local to take a walk with" and they're free to contact you in the chat.
I'm seriously considering doing this now. Saw on the site that CouchSurfing is now under a lot of financial pressure due to Covid and it might not survive. So, any support people can give will be appreciated.
I would suggest that posing your attention on a good complete documentation such as a complete profile, accompanied with a well sorted photo folder cannot be wrong, interesting references will help, as if you have probably no references yet at least your profile should be interesting and inviting. BUT there is a huge BUT whatever your documentation and your previous references suggest you must endeavor to fulfill.
Awesome video! Would you recommend to pre book hostels if you're backpacking europe (for the first time)? Or just try luck with couchsurfing and if not get a hostel? Cause IDK maybe booking in advance allows a better price and to pick a nicer hostel. Thanks!!
Only in the big, main cities that are always crowded. Besides that, I don’t usually precook. Unless you have nothing sorted for tomorrow, if it’s one day ahead and you have the time, check out some prices and book a day in advance
thanks for the video alex, couchsurfing its give a lot of help to meet people around the world to exchange deferent culturs ❤️ i am new in it iam from algeria i have one review from a friend brasilian i met him in cairo i opned my home to travelers iam waiting for you to come to algeria and i will host you alex
hahaha I was watching your video because I love couchsurfing, I've hosted a lot and when you said " I saw your picture from venezuela" I was like OOOOHHH MY GODDD hahaha, because Im from venezuela... really good video by the way!
Hey Alexander i m started couchsurfing since 2Months but i m very luck i host 2times in a week one frm germany lady and one from Malaysian man so they given me good reference and i post all pics of my pics couch gallery so its better to post all all experience by pics
I did a lot of couchsurfing and similar things in former years. Next week I will start to Tanzania and I would be interested to hear if anybody has experienced coach surfing in Tanzania for meeting people. So probably I could profit from his experience. You will find me in the couch surfing list, and I would be grateful to hear.
thank you for this! I have been meaning to move out and travel for awhile, cause I have only been in like two states, but I am beyond clueless with no plan hahah ! your so awesome for making this video, and you somewhat look like Mac miller lol.
That’s awesome, I just watch the last video on $1000/mo. I started using the couch surfing say and it automatically charge me $60, which I did not have at the time, so I offloaded my app. But I did meet a world traveler and actually drove her up the coast of California. She is the one who told me about the app to begin with. I do want to experience the locals though, the culture, the tour guides, to meet people. That’s cool. But how do you around the $60 fee? That’s steep
I don't know how that happened, you only pay that to get verified, which you really don't need to do. I haven't been verified all these years. Can you contact them? I mean, it is good if you continue to use it a lot, I'm sure you'd get hosts easier with verification
Awesome information video... Looking into going on a cross country adventure via hostels and/or couch surfing... Maybe sooner than I had originally planned_ as in, within next couple of weeks. Any advice? Mexico to Canada via 2650-mile Pacific Crest trail I have slated for 2020 or 2021
+malcolm weeks awesome, I'm glad to hear about an adventure like that. I suggest making your CS profile now, and trying to connect with some hosts early. See if you can set something up ahead of time, fill out your profile completely. I'm sure you'll be able to find some hosts, and then, great new friends for a long time
How are you able to travel for so long and have a job to come back to do you bring your work with you? I’ve always wanted to travel but never know for how long I’d really be able to without affecting my work
I had to get a type of job that would take me back easily, or work for yourself. You know, the jobs like Uber and those types that you can work whenever you’re back, and leave when you want. Or just work online
Northern Sailor hey mate, actually I'm not sure how to get around that ha..what I do is, I spend half my time in Schengen, so basically Western Europe, and then half my time in Eastern Europe. There are some amazing places on both sides, so if you want to spend 6 months or longer, I suggest doing the west then the east, or back and forth. Then it'll start over after those 90 days
As Alex said both Western and East Europe are amazing so you can wander 3 months in the west and then another 3 months in the east and then you'll be all set for another 90 days in the west is that's your wish.
I come from a country that require a visa to go to europe for a short time (even for a day)....and in order to get that visa, we should provide hotel booking proofs and a reference paper from our hosts, like 2-3 months before our departure. Can couchsurfing hosts provide those letters 2-3 months prior? Because I'm not sure if they want to (cos they haven't meet me yet), or even if they do, 2-3 months seems far too early to be sure whether they can provide the couch or not (maybe they'll be out of town or something). What do you think or recommend I should do about this? Thanks
if you join this site is it necessary to host as well? was just told about this site so im finding out as much as i can and see if this is what i could do, i like travelling but not sure if i am ready to host anyone.
It is not mandatory to host. I would think 98% of people on this platform don't host also. It's just a nice exchange if it is possible for one to do it. If not, just be a great couch surfer!
Hello Mr. Alexendar actually I just join in couchsurfing. So how can I get references and requests and how can I will become a good host?...........I will wait for your answer. Thank you from India.
Hi, can you host people where you are in India? You should make a CS account, put some photos of your couch, a nice profile, and get started. Be a really good host and you’ll start getting really good references. Once you have 5 or more positive references, it should be much easier to host or be hosted
I've been couchsurfing in the US (east coast) quite a bit and being European I was surprised by how welcoming Americans are. To me it's way easier to find hosts in the US than in Europe for example. If you keep getting rejects you can send me the link to your profile and I can give it a check. It's also important to write a good couch request, I have a video on how to do it here ua-cam.com/video/PVXewFRRuhw/v-deo.html. I'll also publish a video about "How to get accepted on Couchsurfing" in five days.
Nathan Kim If you're staying with a host for a few days, you can leave your stuff at their house while you're out for the day. Couchsurfing is all about building trust, and you will feel just as if you're leaving some things at your friends house

It's good info guy I am indebted to you.I simply love to travel around India .I don't have out of India travel experience. But love to enjoy.
Hey Alex! Thanks for this tips, I like all your videos. You seem to be a really nice guy I wish I'll meet people as you are during my future trips xx
Thanks Alecia! I’m glad to hear that and thank you for watching my videos. Good luck with your travels and meeting good people
Ay your hat is where it's at.

Be Good
Eric
You've got some fantastic advice in here! Thanks a bunch! I'm working on creating my profile to go on a pretty big trip in a bit. I think this will really help.
But damn, what's with the focusing on your camera? The 70D is usually pretty solid!
Awesome, yes you really should try it, it’s amazing. And yeah, I don’t have the canon 70D now, which has amazing autofocus. I was using the Panasonic GH5 and I’m still dealing with it
You are amazing
And am lucky person coz I see your videos and got a lot of advices from your experience
Best wishes
TAHA FROM IRAQ ❤❤

Good! You're welcome, have fun on CS
Couchsurfing is the absolute best
Would need a covid update ^^ I'm just discovering your chanel and about to do a world tour now ahah
I'm seriously considering doing this now. Saw on the site that CouchSurfing is now under a lot of financial pressure due to Covid and it might not survive. So, any support people can give will be appreciated.
Very helpful video indeed!
Great Advices, all stories was right ! Thank you Alex.
toom tuche good luck Couchsurfing!
Loved the Italian one.. Greetings from Egypt
Cool man. I like the way you explain things.
Thanks mate 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you for the good information!
@@AlexanderTravelbum Great, thanks!

Couch surfing be like: Upload resume here lmao

thank you for this! I have been meaning to move out and travel for awhile, cause I have only been in like two states, but I am beyond clueless with no plan hahah ! your so awesome for making this video, and you somewhat look like Mac miller lol.
Pay good luck! And thanks for watching. Wish you the best with traveling, and hopefully some Couchsurfing
thank you and yes couch surfing sounds so fun, too excited!!:)
Thank you for helping me with this today bit. I’ll look into to more. I didn’t realize that. Blessings 💜
When he sat down on the floor at 3:13 I felt that he really wanted to help me and be closer to me
That’s the truth
Great video!
Thanks
#Travel With Joy 🇺🇬✈.
Thank you for sharing.
Great Information. Thank You!
Lynette Cheo thanks for watching my video!
I'm sure you'll be able to find some hosts, and then, great new friends for a long time
Merry Christmas sir 🙏
Thanks a lot!
You really a nice guy,i am think i join to couchsurfing to...nice video!
Thank you! Yes you really should join
In Singapore, Couchsurfing is banned, so are Airbnb. Very sad though. A great way to meet friends.
Really??? I've never heard about it! Are you sure about this? Can you post some reliable sources? Thank you
Thank you so very much. :You are very helpful. :O)
You're welcome! Good luck Couchsurfing
Ok my big question, and its a lil unrelated, how do you get past the 90 day visa thing for Schengen countries?
Thanks
How do u manage to show ur bookings ? during the immigration if you are doing Couchsurfing??
Thank you so much this was really helpful 🤗
Happy to help! 🦕
Hmm think I'm better off staying w airbnb, I live in a town house and I do have a futon but its in my loft room.
if you join this site is it necessary to host as well? was just told about this site so im finding out as much as i can and see if this is what i could do, i like travelling but not sure if i am ready to host anyone.
Alexander Travelbum ok thank you sir.
what about US couchsurfing community. ? All I keep getting is rejects . Should I buy $60 verification.
What should I do with my stuff I don't want to lug around? I haven't done couchsurfing yet.
Nathan Kim If you're staying with a host for a few days, you can leave your stuff at their house while you're out for the day. Couchsurfing is all about building trust, and you will feel just as if you're leaving some things at your friends house
Thanks.
