I noticed the significant hesitation when they were taking him to the vet with two mares. He really hesitated as it was the first time he had been in the trailer and not the only horse. I am sure that was in his mind, and he definitely did not want to leave. Of course if Oliver grows another 6" they may have to have the roof on the trailer raised.
All that work on ground manners paid off with Oliver's first trim. What a good boy he was. Colt and the ball at the end was hilarious. Colt immediately appreciated the entertainment value of the ball. And then that kick at the end. Omg, so funny!
I had the most fabulous horse I've ever had many years ago. He was a SHIRE & QUARTER HORSE cross. He stood 17.5 hands, I trained him to be a saddle horse for trail riding & endurance rides. We rode the TEVIS CUP every year, seems like he barely even had to breathe hard, he always topped the vet checks, too! He wore such massive shoes I had found an actual REAL BLACKSMITH who came out to my place every 6 weeks & he literally FORGED & MADE SHOES FOR MY HORSE from size 3 draft horse 'BLANKS'. The heel & toe of the shoes were custom made every time specifically for my horse & the kind of rough mountain trail riding I did back then. He never threw a shoe or ever had a shoe come loose. They were as set as they were the very day they were made & put on, no matter how many miles we rode in the 6 weeks between 'pedicure' appointments. Rain, mud, snow, it didn't matter we rode at least 6 out of 7 days a week. At least an average of 25-35 miles a day. That seems like so long ago, well I guess it was. Give you a hint, I was never charged more than $20 for the job to be done. Ranch call & all. There was a forge & anvil mounted to his truck bed so that he was completely mobile & could go anywhere up the steep mountain roads where I lived! I really miss those days. My horse lived to be 36 years old & was in fantastic shape! He looked like he was built from the ground up. Sort of like looking at a massive tree grown from the root up!! He would go up, over or through anything I asked of him without a second of hesitation!! Best horse I've ever had!!!!
@@donnasmith9939 THANK YOU!! Yes, a very cool memory. However, we spent so much time over that 36 years together riding, living, just becoming as one with each other. I always knew that all I had to do was THINK about what I needed him to do & he was doing it before my thought was complete. For example, riding in the dark of night on a barely-there deer trail with next to no moon light, yet I trusted my faithful horse absolutely completely. I knew that he could detect the deer trail FAR BETTER THAN I EVER COULD! So, just trusting him, giving him his head, knowing that he knew how much I trusted him, he ALWAYS GOT BOTH OF US SAFELY TO OUR DESTINATION. Never even a mis-step or stumble either! Fabulous trail partner for many, many very happy years!
36! Wow. That's amazing to me! Wish that I could see pictures of that mix. 17.5 that's an amazing size to someone my size. 36 is practically a life partner! You were a great steward for your trail pal. I never had the opportunity to have a horse, my cousin was the horse woman in our family. I just got to be the cannon fodder for training! I can't tell you how many trees I got drug through and under. All in all, I actually loved all the parts to caring for horses.
Olivers kick at the end was priceless.Colt went running away. Oliver is just a gentle giant. Becca your such a big part of the horses. It's nice to see. Glad Oliver Did so well. Colt looks to be an instigator.
I don’t think Oliver would have been as good as he was without Gerrard being there, he trusts you and he knows that you care about him, Oliver was brilliant at having his feet done, That Rooster had a lot to say🐔🐔. Well done to Junior for his hard work. Thank you guys. Xxxxx
I'm sure you're right! After such terrible abuse and illness, to be saved by JR and his family, working with JR every day to establish trust, and being treated so well by him, with his training being based only on kindness and trust, I'm sure they have a very strong bond of love. And being in a strange place, I'm sure Oliver is very much looking to him for familiarity and safety, basing his own mood very much on his "dad's."
Oliver is such a good boy, thought he did really wonderful with the farrier. The Amish farrier was impressive to be so young, he seemed to be a fine young man and patient. That rooster just added to it! Oliver is a sweet soul and ended up with a family that is great! Colt was so funny with the ball! God Bless and Love Y'all!! Thank You!❤❤❤❤
I have see Amish work their animals very hard, I feel sorry for Oliver, He will probably be worked very hard by them, plus not all take good care of their livestock.
I could watch Colt playing with the ball for an entire video. Looks like Oliver was walking better after his visit to the Ferrier. Looking forward to seeing Oliver get his shoes.
What a good boy he was, he has such a gentle temperament. Unless you’re going to do a lot of road work with him you could leave him barefoot, it might be better for him.
I agree unless he has hoof issues. My old mare had front shoes & none on back feet for spring, summer & fall. Then snow shoes in winter bc I rode her alot. She loved romping in the snow. No flies, not hot.. Rode bareback to be warm.
Loved Colt playing with that ball that was bigger than he was!! And the ending when Oliver booted it was priceless!! Oliver was so good at the farrier, and Junior really did a good job on his feet. It was interesting to watch Colt examine the ball and find out that he could make it move. I hope eventually we can watch a soccer match between the boys!😅😊
I admire the fact that the Amish teach their youth this type of marketable skill from the time they're old enough to understand the lesson. It quite apparent that Junior has an amazing skill and a deep understanding of horses.
Nice that the farrier allowed the filming. Good to see how well behaved Oliver is - lots to learn. Colt and the ball were hilarious. That kick by Oliver was a nice finishing touch. Nice video - thanks for making it!
I laughed when Oliver put his nose into the camera because it was like he was saying, " Amish. No filming!" Oliver deals with paparazzi, make no mistake! Then little Colt learning about the ball was so cute and funny. Its so nice to look at Oliver without wincing like I did when when he came out of the horrid place you rescued him from. Hey, us old timers don’t like to back up either, Oliver, I completely understand what you’re feeling. You’re looking so much better and things will come easier for you, you’ve got a good home now. 🥰 🐴💕❤️👍👍
Oliver did quite well considering the Rooster crowing LoL 😮❤ I loved to see him almost playing with his huge ball but Colt was encouraging him LoL! Thank You for Sharing anothe milestone in Sweet Smelly Oliver's Life!❤❤❤
JR as a retired farrier I can say that with a young horse leave them untied and stand holding them on the same side the farrier is working. So if the horse blows up you can pull the head towards the farrier and he or she can get away!

please thank the young man for allowing us to see what a farrier does I learned so much. What an art form his work is
Oliver deserved a treat for being such a good boy and the farrier was so patient and gentle understanding exactly how young Oliver is.
I know very well that you will getting Oliver cleaned up 😊❤ your doing great Job on Oliver.
Every time he goes on the trailer he must worry that he's gonna loose his nice home again. Coming home again must be a huge relief for him
I was thinking the same thing,I wonder if he thinks he’s leaving again. Poor fella!

A good farrier would have no problem with Clydesdales. Many moons ago t worked with shires an we had no problem getting a farrier!
The smaller the pony the more they feel the need to compensate by asserting themselves. Thus their ornery streak!
