For me this is an underrated show. MITB was short but fun, Edge vs Foley was great match some of the spots were awesome, Shawn vs Vince was a fun match not amazing but solid. I think the world title triple threat is potentially the best match under 15 minutes. Finally I personally enjoyed the main event very underrated however not many people like it but that's just me. Overall a fun show.
I wish everything worked out for WWE. If Eddie didn't die, this would have been a truly memorable Mania. Eddie vs. HBK, and Kurt vs. Taker would have been classic.
You say WWE didn't take Henry's heel push far enough but maybe that's not their fault since they had Huge plans for Henry to face batista at GAB 06 in a revenge match since Henry injured Batista in their fued in late 05/early 06, but Henry got Injured by tearing his patella tendon in two shortly before their scheduled GAB match. a shame since that fued had potential to be awesome and maybe if Henry hadn't gotten hurt he would of been world champ at some point in 2006.
I was similar to you in that I didn't care about WWE from 2005-2007. I kept my ear close but didn't get upset if I missed a show the results didn't surprise me. I liked the EG Tribute with Rey Mysterio. I also liked Edge vs Foley made Edge a Tough Guy. Mickie James vs Trish Stratus showed me that if you correctly build a Divas match I can care about it. Vince McMahon vs Shawn Michaels was an awesome match and exceeded my expectation by leaps and bounds good match. John Cena winning surprised me and Triple H played his role perfectly and I felt WWE tried to correct the Batista is the number two guy and We want you to know Cena is our Guy.
Another notable thing from this WrestleMania is the teasing of DX throughout the night from HBK and Triple H, which would lead to the DX reunion later that year
The only problem I had with this show were the main event matches, the triple threat match could have been longer IMO...Triple H v Cena could have a been better with the build up leading with the tournament, etc....It was a good show otherwise with two memorable hardcore matches lol
WM 22 is a personal favorite to me. It was the last WM I watched strictly as a fan and before I knew what the IWC was (it was actually a happier time for me as a wrestling fan really). The show didn't feel like a big Mania (most of the matches had "blah" build) but its a fun watch. HHH vs Cena (despite probably being their most basic match) was great for me.....I will never forget the look of shock on the fan's faces in the crowd when Cena made HHH tap out.....truly hilarious lol
Edge/Foley was INSANE......! C'mon, a Spear through a FLAMING table???? One of the coolest spots ever. Edge has at least 2 of them at 'Mania (you know the other one)! HBK vs Vince was basically just Shawn beating the holy hell out of him. The splash off the huge ladder, through the table with Vince in the garbage can just the absolute exclamation point.
I've always wondered if wwe was originally going to have taker win the rumble and face kurt angle for the world heavy weight title at this WM but then because of eddies death they gave it to Rey and had taker win the rumble the next year and the World title from batista.
Miles Marable i thought it was eddie was to beat batista for the world champion on the smackdown before survivor series 2005 then he was to keep the champion until mania where taker would have beat him

This match right here proves why hbk is called mr.wrestlemania. He made that match against a non wrestler better than the matches with actual wrestlers.
There were two matches at this Mania that I truly felt were both equally the match of the night. And that's the Foley vs Edge hardcore match and the Vince vs HBK street fight! That hardcore match was crazy awesome, and with a flaming table finish to perfectly cap it off! HBK vs Vince was so much fun and entertaining to watch! I always loved watching Vince get his ass kicked!
WM22 was such an odd mixed bag for me. I remember watching this live and thinking it wasn't going well at all. Foley/Edge certainly had me entertained, as did HBK/McMahon, but overall it felt dull. Almost like it wasn't even Wrestlemania at all. I, too, hated the build of the World title match. I didn't like the finish either. Rey won because of Eddie's death, which is a shame. Mysterio is a talented guy, and a world title victory should have come organically, but instead it was rushed to give him that great moment, which ironically ended up being not so great in the end because of how it came about. Henry and Undertaker really underwhelmed me. The tag title match was a bust (Can you believe Carlito and Masters were getting built to be "big" stars? Never liked either of em). I have no words for Booker T/Boogeyman. Stratus/James was pretty good, awesome storyline and build. This MITB was phenomenal and really my favorite match of the card. Doesn't even come close to matching the first one of WM21, being one of my favorite ladder matches ever, but RVD was the right choice and the match itself was full of cool moments and spots. Pretty unforgettable match, with some amazing things to come as a result only a few months later down the road with RVD winning the title from Cena in one of the most rambunctious crowds ever. I could go on for days about HHH/Cena and how much I despised the finish and result of this match, but instead I'll leave it simply as underwhelming and disheartening. WM22 happened at a time where I was absolutely on fire as a wrestling fan. 2004-2006 were my personal prime watching years and I will never forget them. 2007 was a much different story, as was the latter half of 2006.. Excited for the WM23 review, because man.. that show.. I have a lot to say about it. Both positive and negative.

While this would’ve been cool and they could’ve done Edge vs Cena as a solo main event which they never got but probably should have. But Edge vs Foley is so memorable and was so important in Edge’s career that I think they made the right call

The reason that the WWE booked Rey so poorly to have him lose to Randy, then get a triple threat at WrestleMania, and to have a 10 minute match, was done on purpose to keep Cena in the main event, because Cena needed to be in the main event for WWE.

Not that good of a Mania. My Interest sank too Jeff, after SummerSlam 2005 i thought the Toothless Agression Era with the Brand Split and all was not that good anymore. Money in the Bank was Ok, Foley & Edge was great, Trish and Mickie was good, Shawn & Vince was funny. But Taker and Mark was eehh, Rey, Randy and Kurt was uugghh, and Triple H and Cena was Solid but at no point i thought Cena could outwrestle Hunter, like the crowd did.
I remember really hating this mania. Not just because of the matches but the build of the matches and the matches we got. Mark Henry vs Undertaker? Boring feud and build. Rey being shoved down our throats and a crappy build, not interested. And at this point I could not stand what Cena had become. Loved his Rapper gimmick but that had been gone for a year and now he was boring. And Vince vs Michaels was not what I wanted to see.

HBK vs. Vince McMahon is one of my all time favorite Mania matches. Hilariously fun, and JR did a tremendous job making it even better.

one thing I remember from this wrestle mania was that god awful triple h entrance.
That water bottle ruined everything IMO. They should've given him so kind of fake golden chalice or some shit, or skip the water part altogether.
