I agree with the judge, I think he should have opted out of this repair from the beginning. I do the same thing with collision repair. If a car is 15-20 years old I usually always opt out. In rare instances I may agree to repair if the customer will sign a document that there is no guarantee. Also on all our estimates it clearly states that upon repairing the vehicle we may find worn or damaged parts or parts may become damaged during the repair process that we will not be responsible for. You have to protect yourself because these old cars are nothing but trouble.
I have a 20 year old car. My mechanic told me that the air conditioner could be a nightmare because of exactly these reasons. He would not tear apart the dashboard because that could cause more problems. He explained that leaks can occur with the new stronger pressure. It happens. He is not going to tear apart unnecessary parts and pieces, causing me a higher cost if not necessary. It is the chance you take on fixing old cars. I get it. However, the time lapses were outrageous.
I watch a lot of scambaiters on UA-cam. There have been a lot of scammers using the names of legitimate businesses and innocent people who have no clue that it's happening in their scams. Innocent people are losing business because victims are leaving bad reviews of them, not realizing that the businesses are also victims because the real scammers use their names.
There was a case on People's Court where a woman was suing a person by the name of x (don't know what it is now lol) and before it began Judge Milian asked the plaintiff what 'x' looked like. Before the defendant was brought in, and when he came in she said it's not him. A great example of that in practice. Although, if I remember correctly, by the end the plaintiff still wanted to pin it on the defendant anyway because she probably knew she was never going to find the person imitating him again to be able to sue and get anything. I ~think~ it was over concrete work on a back patio or something like that.

I work for a home warranty company. These contractors KNOW all those parts will begin to fail once the proper pressures are restored. So the contractor should have quoted a repair that included all of those items pertaining to the coolant system as a preventative measure because they’re highly likely to fail once the compressor is installed.
It’s always good to have an idea on how repairs work on cars. Not necessarily how to physically fix it but to know what is needed to repair it. Never take another person word about your car whom you can’t trust.
