      Amen. As implied by another commenter, might still be better to have applications ready to go if they change their mind about the job offer before your start date. Thankfully it hasn't happened to me, but I've had those jitters on what can go wrong

      That's IF the job is real. I just got a rejection in record time (a job where my skills matched almost perfectly), 48 mins from application to denial...that's GOT to be a record...which tells me they didn't even bother looking at my resume or application (because lets face it, why ask for a resume when they have you fill out everything in it already), ATS formatted, highlighted with all they were asking for and rejected right off the bat. Which leads me to conclude, it was not a real job.

      Interviewers definitely ghost you. But they will reply if you reach out and ask. They'll even give you at least part of a reason if you ask.

    I literally just walked out of a job interview at 10 a.m. this morning. It was a delivery driver position for an auto parts dealership. The guy walked into the room with my printed out application that I submitted online, and then he hands me blank forms to fill out. Like why? You have all my personal information, including my job history, references, and emergency contacts in your hand, and now you want a handwritten version? I got up and walked out, and I have to admit, it felt empowering.

    I had four interviews with the same company last week. Three of the four went very well; however, the bad one was really bad. The bad interviewer arrived late, never acknowledged they were late, never turned on their camera (virtual), never introduced themselves, and immediately undercut the earlier salary discussion by 15k. Fortunately for me, they were the junior person of the four (SVP / Director / Manager). They asked me four questions and wrapped up the interview. (Unprofessional) I will keep you posted as I expect to hear something this week. 🤞

    When they send out the rejection email the best way to pep yourself up is to say to yourself that you are too good for that employer and that they just couldn't afford you. Even if that's not true (it usually isn't) at least it feels good.

    • @JeffreyMcKeon
      @JeffreyMcKeon 3 місяці тому +2

      It still could be true though. I just had an interview I think went well but they're looking for 2 years of experience and I have 5. I'm asking at the upper end of the salary range. I asked questions about how metrics are measured and it seems like they're looking for more of a "pencil pusher" employee vs. "proactive" employee based on their demeanor. So it could be a matter of fit for what the hiring manager wants. I feel like most of them want the "don't ask questions" type, which in that case I'm not the best fit.

    I had went for a job a while ago for maintenance. Everyone loved me. The Maintenance Supervisor, the regional manager, plus my cousin's husband got me the interview so i came highly recommended. I was quite confused when i didn't hear from them a couple weeks later. I didn't pay it any mind until i found out through the regional (which i wasn't supposed to know) that they weren't going to hire me after so many affirmations. They pointed out something in my background, which i thought was illegal but it isn't. Jobs can and will discriminate against you based on background. It was unrelated to the job and was 10 years ago. Even after everything, unless i get a "You start X-day" I don't put too much enthusiasm in interviews. I have been qualified for a lot of jobs that didn't come to fruition solely based on criminal background. I was always told at the second/third interview that you were our first choice however blah, blah, blah. Hopefully, someday the laws will change for the better but even when I've gotten the things spoken of in this video, you can still be turned down, last minute.

    I've had instances where the interview went well and then the company either ghosted or strung me along. In the cases of having been strung along, I immediately recognized it after the first time and found employment elsewhere. Of course those other companies took offense and said I'll never be reconsidered for employment with them again. I told them in a roundabout way to get screwed.

    • @davidglad
      @davidglad 4 місяці тому +1

      It's happened to me at prior companies I worked for, where you wrongly believe they would have greater decency. If it wasn't for company directories, you'd think the hiring manager or somebody else got canned for why attempts to follow up were met with deafening silence. Which I thought that was the best interview I gave that year (of dozens) for a position I had a strong chance of getting. The competition could not have been that good to simply ignore me. (I sent a work Skype maybe a week later and an email two days later. At which stage I figured they'd get back to me if they had any desire.)

A lot of hiring managers have been taught how to front and put a facade during the interview process by smiling, being friendly, saying things you want to hear, showing lots of interested in you, and doing all the 5-things you mention on this video, and...getting rejected is the result! A lot of times, yes, you will get an offer after seeing all or most of these signs but not always.

      @lasurfette7830 That's bloody awful mate. Reading your comment unearthed an old memory. I remember getting a rejection letter by snail mail back in the day. However, the kick in the "you know what" was that the company used insufficient postage. I got a message from Royal Mail (in the UK) saying that there was a letter waiting for me, but had to pay the outstanding postage. Of course, I didn't know it was a frigging rejection letter! Only when I paid the remaining postage, did I find out what the it was. Essentially, I'd paid for my "get lost, we're not interested" letter from the company. The cheeky sods.

    I can't tell you how many times I've interviewed - and knowingly well - for jobs. The panel has acted very interested in my responses, or even told me things such as "wonderful" or "impressive." Then two weeks, four weeks, two months go by... Ghosted. Nada. Or, a rejection email so longer after the interview that I'd almost forgotten about it. The hiring world is collectively saccharine, and "who you know" is unabashedly valued far more highly than knowledge, talent and competency. Which begs the question, resumes are supposed to demonstrate knowledge, talent and competency, so why interview me if you like my resume but are going to hire the CEO's cousin anyway!?

I had all this positive feedback and on my way out the door, we shook hands and they confirmed that I was available to work the shift that was open. Needless to say, I thought I had the job. A few days later, I asked HR for an update. Over a month later .... I have never received a response. They never even sent me a rejection letter. It's soo depressing .... I logged into the app portal and requested that they delete my info. 😞

    Great context, I agree with all of those signs. But in recent industry controversial practices due to economic downturns, there has been multiple moments where I indeed got all the right signs you mentioned only to get a rejection. My presumption is that there were internal referrals that were heavily favorable due to nepotism and company policies to make the job public, despite the positive signs during recruitment OR the company itself may be participating in "Ghost Posting" of the job, to appear as though they are still growing to their investors - aka they really had no intention of hiring for this position.
    This is for those who are going through this process today and help affirm similar experiences, so don't feel bad or lose hope - keep griding it out. If the company values you, you will know and land the offer.

    With past interviews, I've often told my technical test results are the best they've ever seen, and the interviews are always affable and enjoy the conversation in the interviews, yet I've been the #2 or #3 choice every time in the past 6 year, netting me a total of 0 job offers. The reason I'm given that I'm not #1 is that I don't have enough time holding a job in the industry. It's the vicious cycle of needing a job to get a job.

Most jobs are the result of referrals, so if you know of a friend or family member who can vouch for your experience and refer you to a company, that might help you bridge the gap between submitting another application, and getting called for an interview. You will miss 100% of the shots that you don't take (MJ), so keep shooting, and eventually you will connect with something.
