I have both , waterproof and breathable. The reality is wear merino wool sock and have a boot drier and there is no issues. I do not have stinky feet at all.
Boot drier is key. My boots are waterproof and at the end of the day they come off my feet and directly on drier until morning. I have the maxx drier xl and it runs for up to 3 hours and has heat option. I've had it for years.
I live in Florida and wear waterproof Redwing CRV boots 7 days a week, along with Redwing medium weight socks. My feet are dry as can be when I get home in the evening and the boots don't smell either. Always get 2 pair of boots and alternate them.
1: Wash your insoles every so often. Once removed, scrub with a toothbrush and detergent. To dry start at one end using your thumbs press down as you progress to the other to push out as much water as possible. 2: There are many shoe dryers but have not used any. Cause of the smell is bacteria due to moisture so drying should keep odor at bay. 3: Deodorizer spray/powder. I've tried many sprays with chemicals or essential oils and all failed. Powder, I'd pass. It's a mess during application and leftover powder in your socks retains moisture. Out of all the sprays minus clear gear and sweat x that I haven't tried, Armorpur worked. It's developed for body armor. No matter what I tried on my vest nothing worked from sprays to cleaning the panels but when I finally got my hands on Armorpur, the smell was neutralized. Remove your insoles, spray with armorpur and allow the boots and insoles to dry.
Unrelated question. Does anyone make a modern version of the military surplus bunny boot/Mickey mouse boot? It seems unanimous they are the best boot for seriously cold weather, but nobody has recreated them. Also any thoughts on arctic type boots? Baffin boots are my current favorite. Thanks!
I’m in Asia and it’s freaking humid and hot here. No problem wearing Gore-Tex boots. The problem is the socks. I avoid wool socks. Those make my feet stinky. Normal sport socks are ok.
you should do a review of the timberland super boot 40 bellows (if you haven't done one before), your video on the original timberland boots did well albeit a little controversial :) but it is an interesting boot and I think it would make for a great video.
Totally appreciate your knowledge and insight. Thanks for bringing it.

Once your boots get a little smelly... What's the best way to get the stink out without harming the boot?
