    I am incredibly tickled that Ed Suominen has worked with evolutionary computation in the field. I would love to hear him talk about how it's used in modern engineering!

      As long as the religious are as confident as they are in how evolution is "just a theory," not much will change. It's like they're mentally prepared to dodge a correction of their mistaken definition and just act like 'yeah I was told you'd say that, so I KNOW it's bullshit.' Blah blah...

    “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

    Behavioral Psychology has long since replaced both religion, and philosophy. Only patient, and sober science can explain why humans invent gods, and rule books for moral behavior. One thing is for sure: Humanity is sovereign. WE determine our future. We will redesign our own biology, and the future world we live in. We can create, and recreate systems that serve us in so many ways. Science will continue to shape us, redesign us, and improve us both physically, and mentally. >IA< has already multiplied out ability to process huge amounts of vital data. Life will only get easier, and better, with less pain, and and more individual freedom.

    LMAO!!! Our cat was in the house but we couldn't find him... we heard him, but had no idea where he was. We were flipping beds and looking in every room in the house. My wife even started crying saying maybe the devil took him... at that point I lost it and started laughing my ass off! He had managed to open the bottom drawer on my wife's chest of drawers, climb in and I guess the drawer closed on him.

    34:56 If you listen to the podcast, you can get the expression that the USA is a theocracy like Iran. Teachers afraid to teach science in science classes. In Europe that kind of theocratic regime is unheard of. Maybe in some religious schools, but not in public schools.

      After a millennia or two of having religion decreed for everyone by Monarchs, the foundation for colonization was allegedly to escape being forced to believe another way. So, you can't REALLY say It's all on us. Our European ancestors left European religious persecution only to turn around and establish - or attempt to - the same thing, here. How ironic.

    I recently wanted to charge up my wireless beard trimmer, so I plugged the proper end into the trimmer, and couldn't figure out why the L.E.D. wasn't coming on to indicate it was charging. I tried pulling the plug out of the trimmer and plugging it back in, still no light. As I was trying to figure out what was wrong and looked down beside me, I hadn't plugged the other end of the cord into the wall. That's why it wasn't charging! Why do so many other atheists get so hung up on this label? I honestly don't get it. Trying to avoid the term doesn't matter to god-believers. To them, you're still an atheist even if you don't want to use the term. Not using the label just helps to continue the stigma of it. If they're acknowledging their disbelief to themselves and being public about it, how is using the word "atheist" is the one step too far?

      Actually, from what I understand from what I've read, humans knew the earth was round. Fishermen and sailors watched the stars and knew this. Then, along came Christianity that made it a sin to be caught star gazing and spread horror stories about an edge of the earth and sea monsters, making people afraid of passing over the horizon. After all, you don't want your flock learning new things. You don't want exploration or discovery, no. Science is the enemy. It was all in the church's best interest to dumb down society, and they did.

    The human brain is around 80% - 90% water... Coffee is a mild diuretic - personally I can't drink it because it dries me out - so if you maybe drank more water & less coffee, your mental acuity might show a significant uptick.

    • @KemaTheAtheist
      @KemaTheAtheist 10 років тому

      1.) It's not enough of a diuretic to cause dehydration unless you're already close to being dehydrated in the first place.
      2.) Drinking water to be slightly less dehydrated doesn't come close to a CNS stimulant (caffeine) in terms of uptick in mental acuity

      ***** So how much coffee do you drink, per day?
      Have you missed the fact that humans evolved drinking WATER, not coffee?
      Of course our bodies function better by drinking primarily water, rather than trying to obtain most of our body's needs for water from coffee, soft drinks, energy drinks, supposed 'electrolyte' drinks, & so on...

    • @KemaTheAtheist
      @KemaTheAtheist 10 років тому

      "So how much coffee do you drink, per day?"
      A lot
      "Have you missed the fact that humans evolved drinking WATER, not coffee?"
      Have you missed the fact that coffee is mostly water? For a lot of people it doesn't even act as a diuretic. I very rarely drink plain water. I have a soda stream at my desk. I make it a liter (~34oz) at a time, and that liter gets only ~1.4 oz of *diet* soda syrup.
      If I drink the entire thing, that's 1 liter of water, 20mg sodium (i.e. electrolytes), 120mg caffeine, and minor amounts of sucralose, flavoring, citric acid...
      Please find me a single source that would say that 120mg of caffeine would act as enough of a diuretic to counteract the fact that I just drank something that is 96% water...
      "Of course our bodies function better by drinking primarily water"
      ROFL. It works even better when you add in the fucking stimulants...
      Just the fact that you used the phrase "supposed 'electrolyte' drinks" tells me that you have no fucking clue what electrolytes actually are and how important they are to cell function.
      As a biologist, it's pretty clear to me that you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. Seriously, do you even think before spouting such easily debunked tripe?

    Ahh yes, genetic algorithms... Throw in an algorithm that creates additive trees and feed it some sequenced DNA, a weight matrix and you'll shit bricks if you're a creationist.
    Another thing is looking at god in the context of overfitting. I don't think it'll be easy to be a creationist engineer after these 3 things.
