Sticky Rice Baba Cooked in Bamboo Tubes is a special snack from western Yunnan. It’s also known as Banana Bamboo somewhere else.
The bamboo we use has thin skin and a thick layer of membrane, with a bigger hollow space. Pour thick liquid of sticky rice with brown sugar into bamboo tubes, heat up and the membranes will wrap around the sticky rice baba closely. Take a bite and you’ll taste crisp bamboo membranes and sweet sticky rice with the fragrance of bamboo.

Bamboo is so great. My grandparents had it growing in their backyard when I was a kid and we would harvest some of the baby shoots. Mmm so good.

I love that she is living in a free zone world where she will definitely live 20 years healthier than all of us who live in this urban era of using so much microwave, and frozen food and soo much chemicals we consume on daily basis even the water here in new york is so contaminated. I wish this all comes back and we all start using same old cooking techniques and store food in glass or wooden containers and not toxic plastic usage.

It's amazing how all these different cultures and places have similar ways of making some foods. Here in India too we have a kind of pitha which we make using Bamboo sticks and putting glutenous rice inside and cooking it over hay. Love from India💜

we make those in Northern Philippines, I never knew it originated there. But without the fruits and we use banana leaves as a the cover on top. and we roast them instead of steaming.
