Now this is a super group. I saw Rod a few times in that era, with Jeff Beck, and thought him one of the finest blues singers of his generation. Was saddened about his drift into more mainstream music but he still knocked out some classics. Peter Green was the finest blues guitarist I ever saw and would have paid good money to see him play with Rod in those halcyon days 😎
Peter Green also played with Rod in another band, Peter B's Looners, with Pete Bardens, Dave Ambrose and Mick Parker.... and later with Mick Fleetwood on drums.
I put this track on at a party the other night... The room basically stopped and all looked at me... Jaws on the floor... Smiles creeped up on faces and eyes half shut in awe!
Peter’s guitar work in this gem must be pointed out more, the wild dramatic tension expressing his soul as if making a cool speech to whole universe overriding all the well-known tecniques of rock, blues and jazz, timeless!

He did two great albums with Jeff Beck in TRUTH and BECK-OLA, and during that time recorded lead vocals for three tracks in a PYTHON LEE JACKSON session (April 1969) resulting in the later release of IN A BROKEN DREAM (1972) which matches this voice but in an even better song.

@@stevec2993 - Mike Vernon was producing the music for Aynsley in 1967 on Blue Horizon Label and this line-up was certainly the forerunner of The Retaliation. The album that was recorded about a year later had the new line-up with John Mooreshead, who had already replaced Peter Green in the band that became Shotgun Express with Rod (and Mick Fleetwood on drums), and Aynsley had also worked with Rod in the early days of the Jeff Beck Group (early 67) so they were all very much connected.

Rod was a great singer , check out his first 2 solo albums (on vertigo/mercury) and his work with the Jeff Beck group and earlier with Steampacket
