I saw BB King interviewed on Good Morning America or one of those shows. The lady host interviewing asked him why it was that white guys couldn't play the blues as good as the old black guys. BB King set her straight and told her and the entire national audience how this white guy named Peter Green from England was one of the greatest of all time, and completely blew BB's mind, playing with more feeling than anyone he ever heard. Quite a statement from the great BB King. I almost couldn't believe what I was hearing, but it was Peter Green he was talking about, so I believed it.

Any wonder so many of us think Peter Green was the best English Blues artist of his day? Would that he had remained healthy and productive, evolving his talent even further. At least he's still playing, last I heard.
Yes, he is still playing but he is a shadow of his former self. Some of his recent gigs are all over UA-cam. Not saying they are bad but nothing like his old performances.
I'd give John Mayall the title 'Father of English Blues', and yeah, I should have qualified that above statement with best blues guitarist for Green, not artist. Too broad of a brush. Of course, all this is just my opinion and nothing more. Mayall I've seen perform - just last year - and he's still performing at a very high level with a lot of talent around him, as usual.

how do you spell Blues?...Green. What is absolutely amazing about Peter Green's music 45-47 years ago is now in 2015...nobody can touch it!....timeless now
I've read a lot of comments comparing this Fleetwood Mac to the Buckingham and Nicks era. I was fortunate to get to live during the entire span of this band's existence. I love every lineup in this band's history but I especially love this band and most especially this particular song. I listen to it a couple of times per month. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are, in my humble opinion, the finest rhythm section in rock and roll and this blues era they played in is some of their finest and most soulful artistry. What they play here is just a solid bedrock for an epic blues. When I think of how young they were when they made music with Peter Green, and made this music with Peter Green, I wonder just how it must feel after creating this piece? Does any other musical experience they had even come close to what was laid down here and in this time of their youth, or was it just another gig of many? How fortunate for them to get to create things like this in their lifetime and for me to get to experience it. One of the things I sense when I listen to this is that Peter gets to just completely let go and the music is channeling through him into the guitar and then sonically out into the world and into the future and to us, now and for as long as man has the ability to broadcast this recording. I listen to this when times are really good, and when times are like they are now in this covid world and it never fails to sustain me on a primal level. Thanks to all that made it possible for this to be here.
I too was fortunate enough to have witnessed the various iterations of Fleetwood Mac and I am right there with you! It was just magical watching Pete channel the music, feeding the band and the audience. I can't recall the tune, but Christine (might still have been C. Perfect) was singing such a soulful blues tune ... it was one of the most memorable performances I've seen.
Peter, I've read so many wonderful words about you in the two weeks since your passing. Truth is, that I could read a million more and I'd still fail to find the words for what you gave to us. Nobody touches your peak, or even comes close. Your soul laid bare on every note, we will miss you, The Green God. The best, of all time.
Lets not forget the great playing of Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer that made Peter Green's guitar playing sounds so rich & multi layered! Luv them all xx
Sometimes God gives us a gift in the form of a lost soul. Someone who is more than talented…..just pure genius. It’s like He says, “here, I give you this man for just a little while, and then I will take him back. He will do things that you cannot comprehend how it can be humanly done. But he will touch your heart and shake your soul, and you will know that I love you because of this gift.” The Great Ones never stay too long. Even though Peter lived to old age, his Gift was gone when was still a young man……..for all that I thank God we had him….if only for a little while.
I’ve studied a lot of guitarists especially blues guitarists for the last 20 years. Originally it was SRV that turned me on to the blues and he will always be that inspiration to me at a young age. Now I’m 32 and I’ve never felt so much emotion and tone that I connect with more than Peter Green. To me he just is the guitarist and artist I’ve been searching for in the blues for a long time. It’s a shame that he is no longer with us and I can never experience him or SRV Live.
Reflecting clearly on splintered nights Dreams of being, standing free Shadows dance in moonlit skies Music sweet till crystal dawn Echoing mysteries silent tears. R.I.P. Peter Green
It's the May Two Four weekend here in Canada, Friday night just getting under way. Lots of beer, and a few bowls, Winnipeg vs Las Vegas in the NHL Conference Finals, and the best of Peter Green blasting down the stereo. God Bless Queen Victoria.........
amazing piece here ,, these guys had a one of a kind sound... never to be replaced or imitated .. thank you all involved for getting this out there for blues and guitar lovers to treat their ears and mind to!
The sound itself is relatively easy to reproduce. Fender twin or an AC30, dimed, drowned in spring/analogue reverb. LIGHT strings; 9's at most. Guitar irrelevant. Slow, slow, quick with the volume on the guitar to control the distortion. As for the rest: well best o' luck wit dat! :) Be born a hated minority in a nightmarish post apocalyptic shithole (post war Britain) and spend every day trying to be a decent human being. Despite it all. There's a reason the 'white' British bluesmen were so good. They knew what slavery was just as much as their black counterparts. In almost every case I can recall whenever they met musically they spoke the same language and always knew it.
When I was first with mick I used to make breakfast every Sunday for his friend and his girl. A nice fry up then Pete’s nails long he wouldn’t play but she the black girl cabbie could sing or sure! That night Mick played me the blues part of his like that i really knew little about. My jaw was on the floor, his eyes….We’re crying a LOT. PETER was everything to Mick. He took every bit of Peter’s heart and stuck it in his chest. Peter let Mick feel it out for himself like good teachers do. It was learn by example how deep this goes…for you. Everyone is different. Always grateful always gracious and always gone before you’d know it. It was such a special connection I don’t think words could begin to tell the story they shared. Suffice to say I’m glad I saw what I did and that only touched the surface. This was deep really deep. Pete’s protégé and Mick was his most comfortable there I think. Hadn’t heard this one. I’ll pass it and the comments on to him. Hell love it. The video is surreal and fits so nicely. Dada dada. xxx Mrs Tweed
The melancholic majesty of Peter Green. Stirs and satisfies the soul simultaneously. An absolutely uncompromising musician in a brilliant display of prowess and emotion. Thank you for posting this masterpiece.
I sat for about 5 minutes thinking how do I put into words what I have just listened to and what each one of them notes made me feel individually but I can't. if you know then you know
Friedrich Nietzsche.... The slow arrow of beauty. The most noble kind of beauty is that which does not carry us away suddenly, whose attacks are not violent or intoxicating, but rather the kind of beauty which infiltrates slowly, which we carry along with us almost unnoticed, and meet up with again in dreams; finally, after it has for a long time lain modestly in our heart, it takes complete possession of us, filling our eyes with tears, our hearts with longing. Wonderful piece of music...
This song/performance is amazing. I haven't been playing Peter Green in a year or so and just put him on today. This song is like definitive...you want to know what the Blues is? Here listen to this. So beautiful... so sad. the pacing of the music... so gorgeous. How amazing... this song captures everything there is heartbreaking about loving a woman... and losing her. OK... Done.
Peter Green took this B B king song, and turned it on its head. The original short song is great, but this version is brilliant. No wonder King held Green in awe.
This song is just the best! No one has a patch on greeny!! I love to watch the video also it goes great with the song, the pictures take your mind wondering!
Rather than crying that his career was cut short by his use of mind altering substances we should be grateful that he blessed us from 1966 to 1970 with the best music from that period. There seems to be an endless amount of his genius on display with newly found concert audio to choose from. This proves that quality trump's quantity when it comes to Peter's mastery of the guitar. RIP Peter.
The best bluesman ever. Saw him with The Bluesbreakers and the original Fleetwood Mac many times in small Clubs and Halls on the side of pubs and with the Splinter Group many years later. Black Magic Woman is one of my favourites and I gave it a try out at New Years' Eve Karaoke but to my horror, I had to sing to the Santana version. OK in its own way but not a patch on the original.
The notes he doesn't play are as good as the ones he does. Greeny is the real deal. I could listen to him forever.

It was just magical watching Pete channel the music, feeding the band and the audience. I can't recall the tune, but Christine (might still have been C. Perfect) was singing such a soulful blues tune ... it was one of the most memorable performances I've seen.
It doesn't get any better than this...genius, pure genius.
Gone...but NEVER forgotten...
R.I.P.
THE GREEN GOD!!!
Still cry...He felt every note. His soul came right out of those beautiful, perfectly understated, and timed notes.
My favorite blues band ever I can't get enough. ...I love Peter green!
S A MA- S A M A , Rogelio!!!
I believe Greenie will live on forever with his work from the 60's. Such an incredible human being...
I’d agree just couldn’t be so long considering the fate of the Planet
Mac's drum work, mostly the snare work is so overlooked on this.
Their timing and chemistry is phenomenal.
Incredible musician and a guitarist !!! His guitar play hits my soul every time I hear him.
Peter Green's fleetwood Mac was the best FM.
is there any other brother?
I didn't know there was any other Mac.
this was the best Mac love roumores but early mac the best
96.5 or Capitol?
+Stephen Lacey I have to agree with u.
Un blues profondo, deep, che si eleva ad una dimenzione cosmica.
Ovuque tu sia, Peter, grazie per questi tredici minuti di assoluta purezza.
Haunting!
Imagine finding a drummer and bass player willing to play a tune like this today.
good point! if I could just freeze time!
J Gutierrez klasse
P Glenrothes good luck!
Let me know when you do! I am looking myself!
it's not culture... it's a joke!
SRV, Clapton, Jimi, Page, Beck, and everyone else, get in line- behind Peter Green
Oh oh, here we go!
Don't forget Roy Buchanan...one of the unrecognized genius s of the blues!
Ridiculous comment.
He's definitely on the same list of great blues rockers, along with Roy Buchanan, Mike Bloomfield, Jeff Beck, and a few others.
Best white blues player
You forget how fucking great he was....then you listen to this and just bow... UN-real.....
Amazing musician, great singer, too! Thanks for the music with heart and soul, Peter. RIP ☹💔⚘
Lets not forget the great playing of Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer that made Peter Green's guitar playing sounds so rich & multi layered!
Luv them all xx
ANGUS CARNEGIE absolutely!
Rest in Peace now Pete. The Green God, Greatest Of All Time. 🎸🎸🎸
Some will say we effectively lost this man many years ago. Maybe that's true. Wherever you are now, RIP fella. HUGE respect.
I don't think even Greeny can repeat this song.
Sometimes God gives us a gift in the form of a lost soul. Someone who is more than talented…..just pure genius. It’s like He says, “here, I give you this man for just a little while, and then I will take him back. He will do things that you cannot comprehend how it can be humanly done. But he will touch your heart and shake your soul, and you will know that I love you because of this gift.”
The Great Ones never stay too long.
Even though Peter lived to old age, his Gift was gone when was still a young man……..for all that I thank God we had him….if only for a little while.
You can see why BB King told Clapton & G. Harrison, back in the 60's that Peter was the
Best of the English Blues guitarists!!!!
MLC
I’ve studied a lot of guitarists especially blues guitarists for the last 20 years. Originally it was SRV that turned me on to the blues and he will always be that inspiration to me at a young age. Now I’m 32 and I’ve never felt so much emotion and tone that I connect with more than Peter Green. To me he just is the guitarist and artist I’ve been searching for in the blues for a long time. It’s a shame that he is no longer with us and I can never experience him or SRV Live.
Reflecting clearly on splintered nights
Dreams of being, standing free
Shadows dance in moonlit skies
Music sweet till crystal dawn
Echoing mysteries silent tears.
R.I.P. Peter Green
Peter Green's voice is perfect for blues.
So many greatest musicians have allready left us, including Peter Green. Rip
It's the May Two Four weekend here in Canada, Friday night just getting under way. Lots of beer, and a few bowls, Winnipeg vs Las Vegas in the NHL Conference Finals, and the best of Peter Green blasting down the stereo. God Bless Queen Victoria.........
For sure ! Zep owes their fame to this band. Thank you for opening my world to this guys sound. So chilly
amazing piece here ,, these guys had a one of a kind sound... never to be replaced or imitated .. thank you all involved for getting this out there for blues and guitar lovers to treat their ears and mind to!
This affects my soul beyond words! Such soulful and heartfelt expression.
I just discovered this. Knew there was a Fleetwood Mac before Nicks and Buckingham, but never heard the music. This is incredible!
Try -I've a mind to give up living- New Orleans and stockholm versions EQUAL this, honestly
Pure beauty.
Magical. Peter's guitar singing omg
You gotta be BORN with that kinda Soul . . . my heart just cries out
This is just goddam epic
The melancholic majesty of Peter Green. Stirs and satisfies the soul simultaneously. An absolutely uncompromising musician in a brilliant display of prowess and emotion. Thank you for posting this masterpiece.
Could chill and listen to PG all night . Genius.
2 IPA's I was gonna go to bed but then heard this.... getting another beer and playing this song on repeat until I see the bottom of the can.
Amen to that brother! I've had one more than I wanted, and it's all due to this song.
They just don't make 'em like they used to.
Thanks, i think he is the most talented guitar, songwriter singer of the guitarist, he very brilliant
Please don’t ever take this down ❤
RIP Peter Green. Love all Fleetwood Mac but the blues years are my favorite.
love this song and Peter Green for all his work.
It doesn’t get a whole lot better then this, RIP Peter Green
Wow...This is pure magic. Absolutely beautiful.
I sat for about 5 minutes thinking how do I put into words what I have just listened to and what each one of them notes made me feel individually but I can't. if you know then you know
"WOW" says it for me
R.I.P Peter, you were amazing ❤️
Peter Green plays guitar with his heart, and eventually with his hands. the best of all guitar's masters
OK... Done.
Love this!
Peter Green took this B B king song, and turned it on its head. The original short song is great, but this version is brilliant. No wonder King held Green in awe.
R I P WITH THE REST OF THE BEST
This song is just the best! No one has a patch on greeny!! I love to watch the video also it goes great with the song, the pictures take your mind wondering!
Words can't express how i luv this song & Peter Green,am also a massive fan of John Mayall
When I get to Heaven Peter Green and Roy Buchanon had both better be there. If not I'm leaving.
Peace.Blues Gods, Peace! Thank you.
Blues me please! So much emotion in every note! Timeless music Sir! Left us way too early!
RIP Peter.
R.I.P. Peter Green, see you on the other side.
