CLIP DESCRIPTION:
George (Gary Sinise) takes a dead mouse away from Lennie (John Malkovich), causing Lennie to cry, but promises to one day buy him a puppy.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Gary Sinese directed this respectful re-telling of John Steinbeck's classic novel, with Sinese as the wily George and John Malkovich as the brutish, simple-minded Lennie. Set during the Depression era, the film opens as George and Lennie are running from a woman with a torn dress, who has sent a gang of ruffians to chase the two out of the county. After a long bus ride and a ten-mile walk, George and Lennie arrive at a migrant farm in California's San Joaquin Valley, where they seek work. George dreams of putting together enough money to buy a small piece of land where he and Lennie can build a home; he hopes that in California the two can realize their dream. Unfortunately, the foreman of the ranch, Curley (Casey Siemaszko), enjoys tormenting Lennie, while Curley's frustrated wife (Sherilyn Fenn) entices Lennie with her sexual allure. George warns Lennie to steer clear of Curley's wife, but Lennie follows her to a barn where a tragedy occurs and George and Lennie's dreams are shattered.

SAME
RBDphilosophy same here!
RBDphilosophy When George said he is going to have to sock you to Lennie everyone laughed, sounds so wrong.. 😆
RBDphilosophy Same
same
I always pictured Lennie being much taller, but the acting is on point.
Agreed
I imagined George short and a little chunky
+Burnt Toast George is described as very tall and overall a big man in the book. Lennie on the other hand is described as stalky.
MoldyUniverse No, he isn't, I have no idea what version of the story you've read.
Well unlike you, I have actually read the book and will provide evidence of my claims. www.cliffsnotes.com/literature/o/of-mice-and-men/character-analysis/lennie-small
Somehow I pictured Lennie bigger.
+Dr Poonlover A lot of people did. But I don't think there was an actor his size back then...
+Madyson Weaver there probably was, but not a very good one
+Senator .SmellyPants there is NO WAY you think he's a bad actor. hes BRILLIANT. the original mocked Lennie, not this one
+Dr Poonlover Me too!
Dr Draconian Lennie is big and strong that likes to pet soft things
I hope everyone did well on their english exams!!!
lol
Omg ur a wizard how did u know I had an exam on it 😂😂😂
because we all do at some point?
maybe?
might be newer to the curriculum?
something like that
OMG lol
Hahaha
I'm not going to lie, I absolutely loved this book.
I know right! The book was so good that I read it twice already!
I'm not going to lie, this is definetley me when I'm driving.
Kbear2097 I loved it too.
I cried reading it it's amazing
Omg I love Of Mice and Men too!
Knowing the ending just makes this opening so damn depressing
Ikr
that's what I thought
I started crying in class when I read the ending. I kinda read ahead ;-;
@@lizziecornwell6717 I want to read a head but I stoped my self
I know right 😭😭
I open up the of mice and men book and some guy wrote inside it "Lennie dies lol"
woof
oof
spoiler lol
Oofus
That happened to me once when I was got a library book
“First chance I get I’ll get you a puppy.”
Lennie: **sobs harder**
The way he cries breaks my heart.
Lennie's adorable 😭

+Mathew_R1 Tnx ? 😂
+Itsleilaniii no problem, boo 😍😍😍😘

@A Troll gcse english is so good learning about lennie killing the dog i laughed and him throwing it but him killing curlers wife i cried
This makes me so sad tbh, partly because I know the ending to the book, but also because I loved Lennie's character.
When reading this book, I had such a soft spot for Lennie! And now... I WANNA HUG HIM😭
SAME HERE!!! :D
He'd kill you people!
jonathan abeles not on purpose
He didnt mean no harm honest to god he didnt
Jasmine.. if you are soft.. he'd pet your head off.. that's a one way huggin' hun.
While reading the book, I imagined Lennie sounding like Forrest Gump.
Hol up Lieutenant DaN
Same
Unholy Giraffe both clever people 😉
Me too
funny bc lieutenant dan is George
Watching in 9th grade English class.Who else?🙋
me🙋
Me!🖐🏻
Me😂👌🏼
Me too!! lol
we're reading it in English 9 right now. gonna watch the movie after finals.
When the movies were as accurate as the books
Animated 34
Well you ain't petting no mice when you walk with me.
@@dilbertdoe601 He said that when I read it 😂
Yeah same
Lennie ain't big enough
@@lanceryderwilson8618 they probably couldn’t find an actor both good enough and big enough to play the role. You have to make compromises like that with live action
George was almost like a father figure to Lennie I think. always watching out for him but disciplining him when necessary. I loved the book
Older brother more like
Older brother. That's what Steinback was aiming for in the book
Single mom more like
It was hard to understand the meaning as a kid, as I'm sure that's for most. But what's interesting here is that Lenny was actually showing more remorse than an adult with a functioning brain did.
That's not even it he just likes to touch soft things, it's literally the reason he gets in trouble all the time
Lennie is the most benevolent character in the book. His dream was literally to feed rabbits alfalfa and candy- he loved to help other people and other things
I don't think he's showing remorse in the slightest, he's just upset the mouse is gone and he can't get another.
Bro, no.
He’s a child. He’s not emotionally developed. His toy was taken away so he cried. Simple.
When I read this in 12th grade english, I pictured Lennie's voice being deeper.
Sameee
+Evan Rivet You read this in senior year? Strange, I read it on 9th grade. California here btw.
+marchveris im reading it in 8th grade
True, same
I read this in 7th grade
Tom hanks should have played Lennie's part, and then he'd shout "LIEUTENANT DAAAN!!"
Yes xD
We've just started reading this in English. Only just finished chapter two though, so I don't really wanna risk finding out the ending, but yeah. I was thinking that he should play the part in a film of the book.
OMG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhaaaHHAHAHAH IM DYING
Tom hanks is one of my favorite actors! Xxx
Actually snorted with laughter
Deva Putra Wardiman idiota
The book should have been called Mostly Men and Barely Mice, with Hint of Woman.
It was called of mice and men because in a Shakespeare poem it said a line regarding jobs or somma then it said of mice and men. But still that's funny
It's called Of Mice and Men because of what was said in Burns' poem--that of mice and men things go awry, meaning that dreams don't always work out like they're expected to.
Jeyd Banti Don't you mean the saying "The best made plans of mice and men" or something along those lines?
Riley Walker exactlly
Jeyd Banti Shakespeare?? Lol naw mate, ROBERT BURNS.
No matter what year it is, there will always be someone saying that their English class brought them here.
For example, in this year (2020), English class has brought me here. We finished reading the book.
Lol I’m here in 2021 trying to write an entire essay that’s due tomorrow for 9th grade Pre AP English
George found a deadmau5
You mean Lennie??
So Lennie has a mouse in his pocket? And Woody has a snake in his boot. Well then i think there's mouse in my boot and a snake in pocket.
Illuminati
I read this book in high school in the 1970s. Never would I’d ever imagine I would be the mother of Lennie. I’ve shown this movie to him and he knows what is happening. I call my little grandson George because our Lennie is blind and deaf and autistic. John Steinbeck really understood and experienced the human condition in all it’s sorrows.God bless everyone.
Poor kid, I hope someday we'll be able to at least cure the blind-deaf part.
how does he know what’s happening when you show him a movie that’s all audio and video he’s blind and deaf
@@joshmeagher2024 bruh that is indeed some bs isn't it huh?, using mental illness for gaining internet feel bad points lmao
I have an autistic boy too, he's non-verbal. Watching this and crying. Much love you ❤️
Awwwwwwh I feel so sorry for lenny I just wanna hug him
Condiering my cousin is disabled if rather not you use that type of laguage towards disabled people. Get some respect and be a real man.
Charlie Kelly its ok charlie i get your "its always sunny" reference
TehPyyRo Look at you, white knight.
Charlie Kelly That fucking killed me. +1
Lennie*
Lennie is so adorable I just wanna jump in and give him a cuddle
Omg same i love him smm😭
Just don’t let him pet your hair
I love this version of this story so much. Gary Sinise did an amazing job directing this movie, and he did a phenomenal job as George. Portrayed beautifully. I've seen this movie about as many times as I've read the book, which is like a hundred times! The score is beautiful, and so heartfelt.
okay first things first , lennie is adorable and george low-key fit
Mood
Bro u here for ur English assessment not to crush on them lmao
High key fit
@@twlve5657 is she your friend lol
Lennie sounds like Adam Sandler in real life.
Except it’s actually John Malkovich!
Shampoo is bettah! I go on first and clean thah hair! NO! CONDITIONAH IS BETTAH!!! I GO ON AND MAKE THE HAIR ALL SILKY AND SMOOTH!
@@coryboy345 Hey if you're gonna quote classic lines from classic movies, at least be accurate.
"Shampoo is bettah, I go on first and clean the hair."
"Conditionah is bettah. I leave the hair silky and smooth! "
"Oh really, fool?"
"Really!"
I'm studying this for GCSE english. I can't get over how sweet and innocent Lennie
is. I love it
gcse english? I did jekyll, macbeth and inspector, but I covered omom during yr 9
@@tastethedifferencecheesepeople do study different things for English lmao, I did a Christmas carol, blood brothers and a merchant in venice
How could George stay so firm with him i would of given in
Phoebe Dowling Disease-ridden rodents aren't a good thing for anyone.
Its weird how Lennie's last name is small and he's not small, HE'S TALL
I love Lennie, always feel so sorry for the guy.
I always imaged Lennie's voice to be just like Bill's from King of the Hill
same
accurate
true
This movie and book had me crying like a baby omg the way George loved Lenny is the same way I love my kids ... their friendship was just rare and beautiful especially back then George and their dream was all Lenny had and vice versa
This movie made me cry several times,
When the dog got shot.
The ending ):
And this scene because i was attached to lenny
Robloxian Studios So much foreshadowing in this though, right?
Exams tomorrow and I'm screwed af
How did the exams go?
Yeah I wanna know too.
Lol 6 months ago.
+Alisha mine are tomorrow lol
+Emily Cottingham I passed them all thank god for this video, I would of failed otherwise
From the book, I love how Steinbeck shows a strong sense of isolation with just a place George and Lennie travel to. Soledad.
You will learn to appreciate the lessons in this book as you progress through life. Amazing read.
0:55 turn on captions you'll thank me later
Thank you XD
I hold his book dear to my heart. Sometimes Theres a thin line between loving and destroying.
When every comment is all about English Related Literature Subject
john malkovich just crushes this role, amazing
Me watching the night before my English exam having done zero revision:👁👄👁📝
Same 😂
I swear to god George is so fine
Currently going into year 10, decided to come back for the memories, loved this book
I can’t help but feel sorry for Lennie when he cries :( I almost tear up myself
Of Mice and Men is my favourite book since I was around 11 and I’ve always found Lennie so adorable 🥺🥺🥺
This is probably honestly the best or one of my favourite stories ever read.
English lesson brought me here. What the characters are saying is exactly what they say in the book.
''You gonna give me that mouse or am I gonna have to sock you." Really got me🤣😂
1:06 top 10 saddest moments of all time
I remember reading this at school. The movie was a good rendition, but I have yet to see the original. It is a film about loneliness and the need to belong in the time of desperation (it was the great depression), and the finding of companionship between two men that was rather like brotherhood. It is deeply moving and sad mainly because of the lack of understanding of Lennie's condition and the overwhelming danger it puts them in. John Malcohvich delivered a great performance.
George was kind of mean, but when Lennie started crying about the dead mouse, 🐁 that was hilarious.
What's so hilarious about this scene, you freak?
I just wanna give lennie a big hug 😭😭
This is one of the few things English at school gave me, what a film
A really amazing and inspiring tale of friendship and tragedy brought me here
I may be here for English, but this is a damn good movie
Didn't understand this book when I had to study it in school.. looking back its themes are written so subtly and analogous to real life
George: *yeets mouse *
Lennie :*internally screams *
good luck in English guys! my test is on monday!
after reading the book, i could not even watch the whole film. i had to keep pausing it every time because i would tear up after every word lennie would say
Just finished reading this at school. It was brilliant! However we're not doing it in our exams because it's not "English" it's more American slang. 😒
Jack Budd That's too bad. It was the way people in Salinas Valley in the 1930s.
⭐ຣhαчடα⭐ we are doing an assessment next week though, but not a GCSE exam
I first saw this when I was 8. Never felt that Lenny or anyone else with that condition was the object of ridicule. Thought nothing of it. Then my 10th grade English teacher told us all "Please. Be kind to Lenny." I tried so hard not to laugh out loud. I put my head on the desk and covered up. The teacher told me to watch the movie or get detention. I told him I'd take it.
This scene was sad, in both the book, and the movie. We watched this in class (Yay, more people from english) and I went 'Aww, Lennie don't cry.' under my breath. I was mad at George for a while after that, honestly.
This is late but sometimes you have to be tough in order to get a point across. As someone who adores Lennie's character, this scene broke my heart. But I understand george had to do it because it's a dead mouse and Lennie could get sick. It could've also been perceived as strange by then boss and the other ranchers when they arrived to the ranch.
Idk what you guys say, I love Lennie, it’s not his fault for the things he does, besides that he is a cutie 🥰
You're a young soul, and your heart is in the right place. Read more books! There are other great books out there that will really move you and improve you as a person. Look up classic books and contemporary books to read.
@Bubble pop
Straight fax.
Was it just me or were everyone's classes laughing their heads off when Lennie cried 😂😂😂
plot twist: i didnt come here for an english class
God isn't it weird how year nine English brought so many people to this video. 😂😂 Hopefully we all pass
Lennie I thought would be bigger, I thought George would have more of a high pitched voice
God i love the book and the movie. Classic literature
Always love it when there is a good movie to go with the book your reading in english.Takes a double lesson to just watch it.
I like how I can relate George and Lennie to Drake and Josh as Lennie Being Josh And George Being Drake (almost)
The guy who acts Lennie is a savage he plays the part like a legend and it ales me feel sorry for him I would have let him keep the mouse
John malkovich. You never heard of him?
Steinbeck is the best. Excellent performance from Sinise and Malkovich. Watch it over again and again and again.
We all imagined lennie to be bigger but if you think about it, if he was like above 300 LBS he wouldn’t work cuz he couldn’t move well. So I guess this is reasonable.
I read the first chapter of this and cried and idk what the hell im gonna do if we watch the movie in class because I will cry for the entirety of it. I know what happens in the end and Lennie is such a gentle soul and I just feel so bad for him🥺🥺🥺
There are um....sadder scenes....lets just say it gets..dark
I didn't expect that I would enjoy this book as much as I did
I always imagines Lenny being bigger and maybe a different voice but George seems to fit the image in my head well
Of mice and men
Flowers for Algernon
Best books/films ever...
we’re reading this in my class & i absolutely love the book 🥺
Sinise and Malkovich deserved Oscars for their performances
Based off how unsatisfied John Malkovich is with his normal monotone voice, He should use Lennie's voice as his normal voice lol.
this book is so good reading it in class its even better when sir reads it in lennies voice x love lennie hes dumb but cute and innocent
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You came here for English
And I did too.
English literature we did this, in my English Language class we were writing non fiction
I think everyone should give this movie a *shot*
(I only went on this clip to make a dark joke.)
John malkovich should have won an Oscar for this performance
Anyone else got their literature exam tomorrow?
Literature sucks in my opinion
Reading this in english class and having an exam on it
When you want to watch the movie before your teacher does;
Awwww😢 I feel so bad for lennie!!!😢
An amazing story about the human condition. .
"That mouse aint fresh, Lennie"
I dont know its boring to read for me but watching this makes me understand more
My mom had to watch this when she was in school too. Everyone started crying 😢😂
thnx for the homework answers!
I've always imagined George as a shorter James Franco after SNL did their skit about the book.
I just LOVE this movie and novel, this acting isssss amazing
I was just petting it with the fangers while we was walking along.
I kinda want to be friends with Lennie. I won't have him touch me of course, but I'd want to be his friend.
