- In this week's narrowboat vlog, I explore Ferry Meadows on the River Nene and film Great Crested Grebes in a courtship dance. Then, I spend the rest of the week in beautiful Peterborough where I look for rare bats, spot a detectorist and start my journey on the Middle Level Navigation. Evening Vanessa great vlog as usual and happy birthday to ur daughter India 🍹🎈🎉. The area around Peterborough is flat and the further u go towards the fens the wind does blow, but it is a beautiful area with loads of wild life. The dance of the grebes was spectacular so nice to watch nature at its best 👍. Hope u have a great week and a safe one xx💚

Ferry Meadows I know well as I’ve been fishing there several times ..
Anglers fish it mainly for the large shoals of Bream to be found..there along with other course fish
Species .. Hope your daughter had a great 21 st ..I can just about remember mine 🙂

Oh my, those Great Crested Grebes are wonderful. And they move perfectly in time with the music. 🙂 Maybe the bats are up inside the attic? They were in the Scottish tower house I stayed in for a week several years ago, they do not hang in open areas, they want dark concealed areas. Loved the cruise at the end of your vlog, the music, the sunset, your poem. thank you.

Great bird pictures spring is a time of nature waking up, here In Finland the migrating birds are just returnig, in a field behind our house are a pair of Cranes who return each year 🌻

Minimalist needs to cross The Wash(assisted travel) and exit at Kings Lynn before going up the Ouse via the Relief Channel (?) to link up with Vanessa at Denver or beyond on the Ely-Ouse. Currently they are approaching from opposite directions on different waterways.

Where are you heading after the Middle Level Navigations are you going down to “Cambridge” or the other way towards “St Ives” it is very nice at “St Ives” my friend and I used to moor up on the corner bank side just the other side of the bridge this was a great spot.
Hi Steve, I have gone past March now but if I had known Charlie and Lauren were there, I would have said “hello”. I am heading towards Cambridge first and then I will spend the whole summer exploring the entire network here and all its tributaries. I will definitely stop at St Ives now. Another amazing video. I'm glad you like the Middle Levels as much as I did. That courtship dance by the grebes was amazing. Are they they still digging on the neolithic site between the brickworks and the waterway just outside Peterborough? Hope the winds we are having this week are not too violent on the flatlands you are now in. By the way I finally left the marina on Sunday morning. Hope you are moored up somewhere safe in this awful weather, it is colder than last November!

Fortunately, I am moored safely in the ditches between the rivers so quite protected from this storm. I hope you are safe. Unbelievable, that I have lit the fire in May! I was unaware that their was an actual Neolithic digging site; how on earth did I miss that, or how under the earth did I miss that! Fingers crossed for fair cruising weather; take care.🦋🌻
